“Ancient Mayan recipes make this cafe unique”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

I enjoyed several meals here, and I admire that they use ancient Mayan recipes. They had at least 5 recipes of this sort. It is the first restaurant I have ever seen with Chaya (mexican spinich) on the menu. They also had more traditional foods if you are not so adventuresome.

“I love this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2013

We stayed in Flores for 3 weeks and we ended up in Cafe Yaxa almost every night for a dinner. The first night when we arrived, The German owner of the place Dieter held a presentation in English about the Mayan culture and history which was very impressive. It helped me to understand more about the archaeological Mayan sites like Tikal and Yaxha which are in the area.

The prices are a little higher then some other places, but the food was always very tasty and the portions are nice and filling. They also offer a variety of Traditional Mayan dishes which was nice to see on the menu and to try something new compare to other restaurants offering just the usual stuff.

The staff is nice and friendly, the service is fast and I liked the idea that they include 5 qecales on the bill which is a donation for the local orphanage. I mean it´s nothing for somebody who is traveling but can make a big difference for the kids who don´t get any help from the government.

I can highly recommend this place and I will definitely go back when I am in the area.

“Nice athmostphere and great councels”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2013

I liked the athmosphere it felt really cosy. At the same time the place is full of information of the different mayan sites and the owner will be able to give you great councels for your trips, such as El Mirador.

Hımmm, this place looks interesting from outside, but my lunch and smoothie did not taste well, so I would not go there again.
