“Gorgeous hotel, can't wait to go back!”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Las Lagunas sits on a private lake, near the city of Flores and the amazing ruins of Tikal. We used it as a base to explore both and to relax in this tropical paradise. Our room was right on the lake (part of the room was on stilts on the lake), with a private deck and hot tub. Amazing, relaxing view. The infinity pool competes for best view. The restaurant is superb and comes with a great, friendly chef who came out to chat with us every night we were there. The manager also went out of her way to accommodate our needs, which was much appreciated. I have already recommended this hotel and will keep doing so, as I can't imagine a better place to stay in that area. One minor suggestion: their wine lists consists of bottles US$100+; they also offer glasses of wine at around $5. We noticed that wine in the shops could be bought for as little as $10, so it would be very nice if they could include some wines around the $30-$40 range on their wine list. Ordering glass after glass, instead of a bottle for our table was surely as tiring for the waiting staff as it was for us. The excellent food more than made up for it though! Their home-made bread was outstanding and their French toast for breakfast was among the best I have ever had! Congrats to Las Lagunas and their entire staff!

Room Tip: Pick a lake-side room, it's absolutely worth it!

Thank you so much for your very detailed and wonderful review! We really appreciate all the feedback and kind comments you are giving us. I hope you and your friends enjoyed the rest of your journey in Belize. It was a real pleasure to have you here and I just regret that you had that impression with our wine list. Our wines by the bottle go from $37 to $163 but we have very good options for $45. We will make sure that our servers give appropriate recommendations. I am really glad you enjoyed our food and specially the french toast, they are one of our signature dishes! Thank you for taking the time to describe everything so well and for making us love what we do even more. We wish you all the best on your next journeys! On behalf of all the team, it was great to have you here!

Iara runs this small luxury lodge in Guatemala between Tikal and Flores. The setting is spectacular and tranquil. We had our adult daughter with us and Iara was very accommodating with last minute booking and adding an extra adult to our booking. The ATV tour was terrific and we were able to see some rare animals that they have in natural enclosures along with the natural archaeological site.Gilbert was great. We also went to the island to leave food for the spider monkeys. this was a highlight of our trip. The infinity pool is amazing and nothing is too much trouble for the hotel. We were able to organise a visit to Flores for dinner and a stroll at sunset. Flores was abuzz and we were able to get our tourist fix here. However for a quiet and extraordinary scenery we recommend a visit here. Free kayaking on the lake was an morning pleasure for my daughter and I. We were only here two nights but made the most of the experience in the time.

Room Tip: The waterfront suites are gorgeous!

We spent in Flores 5 nights and this hotel definitely is a great place to relax after amazing full day sightseeing trips in Peten province. Great location in a closed park with 8 lakes, 40 min hiking road, small zoo and lots of extraordinary flora and fauna around. Seeing tucanos flying over the lake at dinner time and squirrels running in the orchids covering ceibas in the morning is experinence in itself. All the main attractions are just an hour drive away (if you have an option - choose jeep or any all-road car).
Main building with lobby and restaurant oversees the swimming pool and a lake. From there by wooden passages you arrive to the rooms each of them stands right on the lake shore. There are two kinds of rooms, one is directly on the lake and another a little further hidden in the jungles. We took the second type (were afraid of mosquitos but all the room including terrace is protected by nets) and enjoyed sunsets on the lake through transparent palm curtain. Rooms stand on wooden columns and entirely made of lacquered wood. Furniture is sufficient and comfortable with satellite TV and animal skins on the floor. Every room has a small terrace with jacuzzi and sitting area which is quite a good idea for evening relaxation. Be ready to some noise in the night you are still in the jungle :)
Restaurant is nice. Service is neutral and calm… Better book your breakfast and dinner in advance if you do not want to be late for a trip in the morning or sleep in the table in the night… They are more than happy to get advance orders. Food is good, better take meat. Steaks are amazing (although I'm a seafood person), seafood and fish not so. Nice deserts and wine list as well.
Take a chance to visit zoo. Small cages but you can see wonderful cats and tapir. Do not really like zoo's but cats are amazing. You can get there on foot (about 20-25 min) or by buggy. We had to book buggy in advance, because on weekend hotel is almost fully booked by locals from Guatemala city.
In general very good and decent place. Best in Peten and one of the best in such kind of historical locations.
NB! Better be sure that you have enough cash with you. Upon our check-out credit card terminal was not working.

Room Tip: Any room is good. May be rooms 8-11 with frontal lake view close to main building are more picturesq...

Thank you very much for your kind and detailed review, for taking the time to write so many great things about Las Lagunas. It was great to have you both here with us and to be your hosts in Peten. Your comments are very helpful and we will let our team know about them. As you well described it, we are in the middle of the jungle and it is a very different experience, wonderful and unique to feel nature embrace you. I apologize for the inconvenience with the credit card charge, we were having trouble with our internet but we were able to fix it on time. We do accept credit cards all the time.
We hope you can visit us again in a near future and thank you again for this wonderful review!

Best regards!

My family and I stayed two nights at Las Lagunas in August 2013. I cannot say enough about this hotel. The service was great. I was nervous about staying there with my 4 kids, ages ranging from 1 year to 10 years, but the staff made us feel so welcome and were very kind to my kids. The hotel was very comfortable and it made visiting Peten a great experience. I'd read reviews about other hotels in Flores that didn't have hot water or who's lights went off for the night at 6 PM. I was really happy to find this hotel where my family could be comfortable and not have to "rough it".

We did the natural reserve tour, which was great. My kids were a little disappointed as they were expecting to see animals in more of a "natural" setting and not in cages, as you would a zoo. I have to say I was also expecting that too, but nevertheless, it was still great.

Iara and the rest of the staff, including the chef, were amazing and very attentive. I would definitely go back, but unfortunately, this stay was a splurge for my family. But we have some great memories. I would highly recommend it if you don't mind spending the money!

My husband and I recently stayed at Las Lagunas on our overnight trip to Tikal from Belize. I can honestly say our only regret is that we didn't stay more than one night. We had the luxury of being the only guests staying in the resort on the night we stayed, so service was over-the-top impeccable. From the moment we drove up the drive to the moment we left, we had nothing but top notch, friendly, helpful service.

The resort offers great luxury and a lot of privacy. It is located on a sparsely populated road a few miles outside of Flores and is a gated resort. The rooms are situated so that each cabin has a perfect, private view directly out onto the lake without being able to see into any other cabin.

We were greeted at check-in by Jara, who was very welcoming and spoke perfect English. We were quickly brought a couple of frozen drinks and cool, wet towels while we completed paperwork on the comfy couches in the lobby area. Check-in was quick and then we were shown around the grounds and our room.

The room was amazing - well decorated, clean and comfortable. Everything is very modern with a rustic flair. The shower was open to the rest of the room, so we could see directly out to the lake from the shower. My favorite part was the rainfall shower head. The bed was a bit on the hard side, but comfortable; linens were clean, crisp and comfortable. There was also a small A/C unit, which was very nice in the hot, humid rainy season. The room also had a nice glassed-in, over-water patio with a table, chairs and a hot tub.

The TV had satellite that included several English stations, including international news. There was WiFi in the lobby, but we were not able to get a signal from our room (Room #5, just one down from the lobby area).

A nice touch is that the patios have separate service entrances (that you lock/unlock from the inside) so that we were able to have dinner ordered and served to us on the patio. They came in and set everything up, complete with linens and candles, and then lightly knocked on our sliding door when everything was ready. The food was good, and not outrageously priced considering we were in the middle of nowhere with not many other options.

Overall, the service was impeccable, the room was comfortable and clean, the food was good and the location was perfection. I would actually consider coming back to the area just to stay in this resort again.

Thank you so much for your review.
Hopefully we can serve you and your husband again in a near future. Everything you reviewed was very detailed which is something we really appreciate. We hope that your entire experience in the Mayan World was unforgettable and thank you for choosing us to be your hosts.
We are trying to improve our Wifi signal, but since we are in the middle of the jungle it is a little complicated but thank you very much for the observation.

We hope to have the pleasure of enjoying your company again soon!
