“Too expensive for the value offered”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 via mobile

The view is spectacular. The hotel staff are excellent and very helpful. The beach and pool are good. The rooms are good. The food offered is less than expected from a SLH hotel. I would expect better quality food and more activities for the price paid.

ear Guest,

We would like to thank you very much for your positive comments following your stay at Grecotel Cape Sounio.

Furthermore, I would like to emphasize that the strong elements that constitute Grecotel Cape Sounio to have a competitive advantage are, apart from the amazing location and the unique view of our Resort Hotel, our human capital, as you already very well mentioned, and the high quality food served at our restaurants (as other SLH members have mentioned us already). For this reason, we would have appreciated if you had mentioned us in detail anything that might have not met or exceeded your needs during your stay. Moreover, kindly please note that I personally and all our staff are willing to make sure that all particularities of our guests are well met and exceeded.

It is true that Grecotel Cape Sounio is a hotel which does not have many activities for adults, a fact that we mention at different sites, where our hotel is advertised, as well as in our site. The focus of our hotel's activities is fully concentrated on kids and children and this point is one of the strongest elements of our hotel which makes it to stand out.

Once again, let me please thank you for your kind comments and I hope that you will give us the opportunity to host you again in the near future.

Sincerely yours,

Stratos Mavralexakis | General Manager Grecotel Cape Sounio |

My two friends and I from university stayed at this hotel in June. We wanted a last-minute get away from Athens for a few days. Wow....we got it....beautiful grounds, beautiful room, nice beach, lovely pool, great food and service. Little touches like small desert samples and wine in the room upon arrival...staff totally willing to whisk us around. Attentive and helpful. It was just a great place to stay. Great for couples, families, and people that need a break from the city. We counted ourselves so lucky to have found this hotel. I can't wait to bring my husband next time.

We stayed at the Grecotel Cape Sounio from 7-16th July this year and it was a truly brilliant experience. We are normally on the move in holiday time travelling from country to country but decided to leave the car behind and have a relaxing holiday. We were a little apprehensive staying in one place without a car.

We need not have worries. The environment was truly relaxing and the staff were so so good. I cannot praise them enough for being friendly and in many cases fun to talk to. They are young, attentive and certainly live the values the hotel are guided by.

When it came to the restaurants we eat at their fish restaurant on the first night - it was disappointing as the calamari was a bit soggy and my partners fish bland. That aside we had meals in the main restaurant (not buffet) and they were all very enjoyable - and they have some great Greek wines.

We stayed in a deluxe bungalow with sea view and they were just brilliant. The whole environment was great and you could spend a morning by the pool (good length for swimming) and the to the beach. Or just chill by the beach all day.

They are a number of local tavernas like Syrtaki which was just brilliant - all meals we had were great.

Back to Grecotel - we are definitely going back and can highly recommend it. Also we booked through Cyplon Travel, Green Lanes, London who we would like to thank for making it a very smooth journey and organised the holiday brilliantly.

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view and temple view are best

The views of the temple of Poseidon from just about anywhere on the property are spectacular, even in the evening as it is lit up at night. We attended a wedding that was spectacular handled by the staff. The service from the waitress Maria on the veranda was exceptional. Remembering our names throughout our stay. Pool and beach were both perfect, quiet and clean.

How beautiful is this hotel! An hour out of Athens and you think you are on one if the Greek islands or Peloponnesus.
The water is crystal clear and the God of Poseidon is watching over you.
This hotel is nestled between the landscape and designed so the landscape is not interrupted.
The main building complements the ruins of the magnificent Temple of Poseidon.
The staff are courteous and welcoming.
It's great to see young Greek and local people employed by the hotel.
My second time time staying at this hotel and hopefully won't be the last.
Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcomed and looked after.

Was torn between this hotel and the other one at Sounio, Aegeon Beech, so glad we plumped for this one. Despite the reviews, no comparison in our minds if looking for a bit of a spoil near Athens after doing all the sites. Easy to get to by bus from centre of Athens.

Staff are so attentive and helpful. Big enough site to feel spacious, peaceful and private. Facilities are excellent and enough to keep 2 teenagers happy, eg snorkelling, football, late breakfasts etc. Oh, and the food - top notch. Most impressive is the surroundings, everything done with the backdrop of the temple and bay, but the hotel's biggest asset must be it's staff - simply outstanding.

Do summon up the energy to walk over to the Temple for the sunset, or if you have got into the habit of been ferried about the site by helpful staff then catch the bus.

Stayed for a weekend with my cousin and my goddaughter for a relaxing break.
We stayed in a family bungalow (no. 611) which comprises a large bedroom, a proper bathroom with two sinks and a bathtub and a sitting room with two sofa beds. It's 40sqm so very comfortable.
It has a very large veranda with a view of trees, hills and sea.
The hotel grounds are very extensive (we used the electric car service to go about as we were far from the main building), so people are quite spread out and we never felt overlooked or disturbed by noise.
It is quite a luxurious hotel, but there are plenty others it shares this characteristic with.
What sets it apart is the absolutely outstanding service. I can't praise them enough.
All the staff were exceptionally polite, but also genuinely friendly and would happily exchange a few jokes with us. Nothing was too much trouble, they were very understanding when our 6 year old had a temper tantrum and even helped us out in making her feel calm again (they even brought a few delicious macarons and a lovely strawberry drink).
The breakfast was excellent with huge variety and very good quality. Food was very good in all the restaurants (there are 3).
The main building which is quite open and very airy has great views to the sea and the Temple of Poseidon
The pool was large and had salt water, so we enjoyed it much more than the chlorinated unpleasantness one usually gets. There is a children's pool and also a jacuzzi pool adjacent to the main one.
There are two stone tunnels below the main road that lead to the beach. It's a very pleasant sandy beach in an enclosed bay with a spectacular view of the Temple of Poseidon on the promontory across from the hotel. There are umbrellas and chairs and naturally a beach bar with snacks. Beach towels are abundant and you can get them everywhere.
There is a spa which we have not used this time and an extensive activity programme, from pilates to climbing.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable two days and would love to go back, even with the steep prices. It's the first time I feel that the whole experience was worth the high price tag, because there wasn't a moment that we were displeased.
If you can afford it, go for it, you won't regret it.
