i enjoyed the tour and match at this fairly antiquated stadium. the atmosphere was awesome. the stadium is reasonably large but a bit run down. it doesnt look as if the are likely to modernise this stadium as atletico madrid are poised to move to the new state of the art la peineta stadium in the northwest of the city. a 70,000 plus seater stadium that will be more appropriate for one of the fifteen biggest clubs in the world. after seeing the stadium of the biggest club in the world real madrid this was an enjoyable follow up.

Thank skankis

I went for the Atletico Madrid v Chelsea Champions League semi final, and whilst the visitors end had good views of the game, and a great atmosphere in the ground, there were a number of areas which makes this one of the worst grounds I have been too.
Firstly the facilities: dire! 4 portaloos to serve 1500 fans (many who had been drinking all day), this is a joke.
The "bar" was also terrible, again 1 bar top with 3 staff serving basically water, coke, non alcoholic beer which they painstakingly decanted from the bottles. I saw a few bread rolls. No wonder outside the ground there is an abundance of stalls selling snacks!
I know people have a poor view of English football fans - unjustified in many cases - but frankly the behaviour of the riot police was far too aggressive and inflammatory. Many fans like myself felt very intimidated and they seemed keen to wield the truncheon. Keeping us penned in for an hour after the final whistle didn't help.
The upper tier stand is steep, the seats are uncomfortable, and they don't move - so it is quite a feat to walk along a row.
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the football, just more loos and bar staff would have made it an infinitely better experience!

We attended the Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid game in March 2014. What a game!! What an atmosphere! As it was the local derby the game was sold out and tickets were quite expensive but I definitely think the cost was worth it. Between the constant chanting throughout the game and the intense passion of the fans it was clear that the majority of patrons were hard-core supporters.
We had excellent seats on the halfway line of the second tier. It is not a very modern stadium and the majority of it is not covered (bring a rain-jacket). The food and drink options are limited so maybe bring your own if you are particular.
The only problem with our visit was that our tickets were in Spanish and it was difficult to even comprehend which gate to enter the stadium in. Luckily once inside a kind attendant helped us to find our seats, otherwise we would be still be there today looking for them!
All in all a great experience, even if not a soccer fan.

We initially wanted tickets to see Real but they were not playing at home the weekend we were in town. As such we saw Athletico vs. Espanyol and the vibe was buzzing. The people who filled the streets in their hundreds before the game created a great atmosphere!

Great fans and atmosphere at the ground. Buy tickets on the website or through ticketmaster- pick your own seats and print your tickets and hopefully have a good game. A 1-0 win this time but not a good game. Great seats though. Take a bocadillo for half time and wade through the sunflower seats. Bit of a rush for Pyramides metro after a 22.00 hours kick off though.....about a fifteen minute walk and very cold in March ! It has to be done though More atmosphere than watching Real
