Camping Caravaning Bungalow Park El Escorial

The site is big - too big really and at first glance it seems to lack character. Facilities are very good however and there is plenty of shade for caravans. I needed to do some legal responses while here and the staff were immensely helpful with printing and copying etc. Also they had excellent English.

After checking in at one of the six check in desks we were guided to our pitch by a man on a golf buggy. He ensured that the caravans were spaced out and not bunched together and asked us if we were happy with the location. We were.

This is a huge site and must get very busy during the summer. In May only about 30% of the pitches were occupied. Though it did get busy at the weekends when the Spanish arrived. You just have to accept that they like large gatherings and enjoying themselves. Good luck to them. Just accept this will happen.

Security if very good. Security patrol round the site at least once an hour. So, any noise does stop at 11pm.

The sanitary facilities were recently refurbished and exceptionally clean.

One of the large pools opened whilst we were there but it was a bit chilly. Indeed snow fell on the surrounding mountains whilst we were there.

The supermarket is well stocked and not expensive. The bar and restaurant are also worth trying.

The site is in a very good location with great views of the mountains. Be sure to visit the Palace at El Escorial.

The bus for Madrid stops outside the site entrance. Reasonable fare and a high quality coach with wifi. It's about a 40 minute trip into Madrid and the coach terminus is at a Metro station.

This is a very big site which is very well managed. Facilities are of a very high standard and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Happy to recommend.

A campsite which is a bit pricey but has excellent all round facilities - can complain about that. However, staying over the last weekend in July it was noisy, noisy, noisy all through the night. No attempt was made to enforce the "silence" period Midnight to 7am - loud music until 5am. Could be better out of season, but don't come here if you want a peaceful weekend in the summer.

We decided to stay at El Escorial completely at random - a total jackpot!

We decided to stay at the 'free camping' area where we had loads of space and the freedom of not having too many people around us (although it changed a bit on Saturday, when tones of people showed up - fun anyway).

We were so surprised with all they had to offer - we thought that the little supermarket inside the campsite would try to rip you off with outrageous prices - but they did not - very reasonable prices and lots of products available!

Yes, they do have loads of rules and they came around to remind you of that - but hey, it is a good thing that they try to keep things under control! The only thing that was a bit too much was to insist that my husband should not were his glass while in the swimming pool (he is close to blind without them).

They 3 swimming pools (one that is as big as little lake), all these facilities such as tennis court etc - this great playing fields with exercise area and plenty of things to do. In addition, if you're into riding your bike - there are plenty of stunning rides to do close by - we've done a cat 1 'La Vuelta' climb up to Abantos which was tough but amazing!

We also rode to the Abadía Benedictina de la Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caídos on top of the mountains which was something out of this world! The ride to Madrid is not very pleasant as around Las Rozas is gets awfully 'main roady'!

It is also very close to San Lourenzo which is an stunning town where you can eat like a king for not much money and see the beautiful Monasterio.

Room Tip: Anyway, in the weekends - it gets very busy in the free camping area - so if you want to get some sl...
