“Nice getaway in the hill country”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

We celebrated our anniversary with a 3 night stay. Our room was nice, the food was good and the peacefulness was perfect. We had spa treatments on each day we were there and they were great. However, the resort seemed a little tired, it needs some freshening up. It has been around a long time and it shows. Also, there is a lack of attention to detail that was disappointing as we were really looking forward to being pampered.

No other place that I've been compares to La Escondida Resort. On our honeymoon last November we enjoyed delicious food, peace and quiet, and hospitality like none other. We went just as the leaves were turning in the fall and it was beautiful Texas hill country. We were treated like we'd been there before by both another couple and Dawn/staff. Dawn herself is an all in one packager. Chef (and I don't say chef lightly), hostess, manager, and someone we would consider a friend even though we only knew them for a couple days. We'll go back any chance we can get. Thank you for your gift to us Dawn and company.

Room Tip: Corner room was good in winter since it had a gas fireplace. But there's good about any room you...

I am very picky and really wanted something clean, romantic and remote and we got it... the staff was very helpful and so enjoying... The grounds were clean and very peaceful.. It is a must for a remote romantic getaway. loved everything about it and we stayed in the owners suite.. love love love

Room Tip: bring an ice chest with food.. you are very remote if you want a late night snack its 14 miles away...

My husband and I spent three amazing nights to celebrate his birthday this past weekend. The weather was perfectly conducive for our get away - unseasonably cold. From the absolutely delicious gourmet food, welcoming room with a fireplace and beautiful views our stay created some unforgettable memories. Dawn and Pam are gracious hosts and made us feel extremely comfortable and fulfilled our every need. They went above and beyond to accommodate us. We had visited Escondida once before, last fall and are planning to come back again very soon.
Thanks Pam and Dawn, you two are wonderful.

My husband and I have traveled to several spas and resorts, but found this one the most unique. It is peaceful, quiet, the food is wonderful, and the staff was so friendly. The most fun was getting to talk to and meet other quests. We felt like we made new friends. We could sit and talk after dinner with no interruptions from anyone else.
It was great. Once he retires, we plan on returning.

Over the river and through the hills,to Escondida we go;
Dawn and Pam know the way to make a great holiday;
We'll go back, you know!

Over the river and through the hills, relax the day away!
Stroll around the grounds, Hill Country Paradise found!
For this is Thanksgiving Day.

Over the river and through the hills, and straight through Butting Ram gate.
Fall color's aglow and we seem to know
Our stay will be first rate!

Over the river and through the hills, now the hacienda I spy!
Hurrah for the fun! Is the turkey done?
Hurrah for the pecan pie!

Our family's Thanksgiving stay was fabulous! The accommodations were comfortable and attractive. Our room had a fireplace which was a delightful touch. The meals were delicious with classics like crepes and eggs Benedict for breakfast and a Thanksgiving dinner my husband ranked "the best ever" until I raised my eyebrows-- I had just cooked a pre-Thanksgiving feast for 20 of his relatives. He revised to put Dawn's dinner in the "top two." (Good save, Hubby!) Speaking of Dawn and Pam, the management team, I give them my rarely awarded Southern hospitality stamp of approval. They were friendly, welcoming, funny and charming. They shared interesting local history and helpful activity suggestions. The atmosphere was relaxing with special touches that made us feel welcome and well taken care of; the facilities are truly lovely, and the surrounding natural beauty of the Hill Country is stunning. We enjoyed every minute and will add our experience at Escondida to our gratitude list!

We were back for our third visit this year and as always the stay was amazing. Needed some time away and a good massage. We stayed four nights and everything was great. The meals were wonderful as usual. Dawn and Pam do it right, creating great meals and taking care of their guests. The rooms were excellent. The grounds were better than before with the new patio; and the new hot tub and covered seating area and fireplace by the pool were so nice. We all had a spa day and the treatment was great, the therapists were so nice and did so good. And the Medina area is some place to go to chill and enjoy nature and friendly people. We will be back for sure.

Room Tip: 5 and 10 have fire places, 8 has a balcony and 3 a covered patio. 4 opens on to grounds through a f...
