“Almost there, but needs a service update”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2010

We just spent 4 nights at Tucker's Point. Absolutely stunning hotel in a great location. Here are the details:

Rooms - Beautifully done. We didn't have one single complaint. I find it hard to believe that any hotel room in Bermuda even comes close to this.

Location - It's only 10 minutes from the airport in Tucker's Town. If you like golf, there are two courses on location. One is available to play any day...the other on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays. You're about a 15-20 minute taxi ride or 25-30 minute scooter ride to Hamilton. One warning...it'll cost you more than $500 (with cart) for two to play one round golf....and the Tucker's Point course is not yet in great shape for the season.

Amenities - Gym is great. The main restaurant, The Point, is fine dining. Other than that, there aren't many options at night other than room service. See more below under service.

Beach -- If you take the shuttle (or your scooter) 5-7 minutes down the road to the main beach, you'll love it. It's a 1/4 mile private beach, with a restaurant for lunch, beach service, and a pool. It's only available to people staying at the hotel or members of Tucker's Point Club. If you rent scooters (and you should), you'll be able to get all over the island. That's where you'll find a small random beach you'll have all to yourselves.

Service - This is the one area that was lacking in a big way. For the amount this hotel charges, service should be top-notch. It wasn't. They closed one restaurant two hours early and didn't even bother to open another one for two of the nights we were there...but never informed the guests. When we said we weren't happy about that, they suggested room service. Never bothered to take down our names or room numbers. Didn't really seem to care. It also took 30 minutes one night just to get a bucket of ice.

Spa - Very nice spa...when they decide to keep it open. They understaff it, so it's very hard to get appointment unless you make it in advance...like before you travel there.

Bottom line - This is a beautiful, quiet hotel that is very luxurious. If you're expecting the best, you'll get it here. But this is a new hotel and the service needs a bit of an upgrade. We'll be back and hope they've made the necessary improvements over time.

we came here with another couple for a long weekend and we were all surprised that the hotel was much better than expected. i visited bermuda back in '05 and only wanted to come back with my guy after the tucker's point hotel was complete so we finally made it now. i was told that tucker's point is the only new hotel that has been built in the last 30 years so everything is brand new but the decor is still traditional english style. we received ugprades at check-in to poolside rooms that were next to each other. the rooms are very spacious and i think all rooms have views of water.

i chose this hotel because of the two golfcourses (tucker's point on property and access to mid-ocean club on m/w/f). there isn't a beach right there which didn't bother us but might be a reason why tucker's is not as crowded as some of the more centrally located hotels (in southampton, hamilton etc). both courses are a lot of fun with good holes but we had really strong winds both days we played. maybe cuz it was off-season, neither course was in great condition.

we were very happy that the food on property is excellent. we've pretty much given up on trying to find good food in european-influenced islands (i.e. caribbean and bermuda). lunch at tucker's bar is pub fare, clubhouse grill is typical clubhouse food (sandwiches, wings etc), and the point (breakfast and elegant dining) is probably one of the best resort meals we've ever had. the turbot fish sammy at the clubhouse is amazing, served with a light tartar sauce. onion rings are some of the best i've ever had. french fries at tucker's bar are better than at the clubhouse.

we went off-property for 2 dinners, swizzle inn and dark horse. swizzle inn is what you can expect from a place that tries to serve something for everyone, offering nachos to steak to veggie stirfry and pizza, all at mediocre levels. however, i did luck out with a delicious chicken curry dish which was room temperature but i think that's the way it's served in bermuda. dark horse is a great out-of-the-way spot on the water in st david. i was pleasantly surprised by the pan-fried rockfish which was delicious. none of us tried their specialties, shark hash and mussel pie. we're curious, however, if there's a tourist prices menu. for this totally dive-y spot, i think some entrees were in the $40 range. the biggest pain about leaving the property is getting a cab back. at swizzle we waited 25min even tho we called for a cab before finishing our meal. our friends waited 40min to get back to the hotel from southampton. so be sure to get your cabbies phone number to pick you up.

the fitness room is above-average for a resort, probably because there are local members. it has olympic lifting and squat racks, spin bikes, a rower. even a jumprope! they had pull-up bars but one setup, the bars were in a lower-ceiling area so if you pulled up you'd smash your head. there's also a sauna in the fitness locker area. the spa is really elegant but is otherwise pretty straight-forward, e.g. no steam or hot tubs, no magazines in waiting area. there's a reflection pool as well to lounge around. both treatments i got put me to sleep and our friends enjoyed their treatments as well.

i would give tucker's point 5 stars if service was better, and i'm sure it will improve. the staff is all very friendly and it definitely shows that they are trying their best. either the hotel is understaffed or under-trained or a combination. before arriving on property, many times when we tried to call the resort, we'd get bounced to central reservations and those people don't know much about the place. we would get answers that conflicted often, e.g. i was told tennis courts were $20/hr and my friend was told it was free. i was told on 2 separate occasions that the on-property shuttle drops us off at mid-ocean club. when we were heading out for our mid-ocean tee-time. we were told the shuttle doesn't go there but the bellman on duty kindly took us over in a golf cart with our clubs. we were there on a package but at check-out, all the items that were supposed to be in our package were itemized and charged. we often go to new hotels but i thot that after close to a year, things would be more straightened out. also, if there are special events that might need reservations, be sure to make them early because these events are probably open to the members. our package included a special brunch buffet and reservations recommended that we reserve a spot so we wouldn't be disappointed. we didn't think it would be a big deal because it didn't seem like the hotel was busy. we learned after arriving that the brunch was booked already (lots of members) but the very kind Karen at the clubhouse bar accommodated us and a few other groups at the last minute to enjoy the special event.

the resort isn't huge but you might have to huff it if you don't feel like waiting for the resort shuttle which kind of runs regularly. the tennis and golf clubs are around a .5 mile walk. people strolling on the golf course should be more aware however cuz they might get beaned. if we come back to bermuda, we'd stay at tucker's point. we normally don't do anything besides golf so this place has what we need, good golf and good food.

This resort is a trip back to a by-gone era of truly olde English finery. This hotel is incredible. My wife had me take pictures of the decor and the bathroom, so we could remodel our home upon our return.

The staff is amazing: curteous, caring, funny, and beyond all polite and proper. This is not a good hotel if you want to party all night. But if you enjoy a Scotch in the parlor after an amazing meal and some interesting conversation -- then this is the place!

The beach is better than any beach on the island. Pink sand, crystal clear water, nice waves, and the service will walk you down to your chaise lounge, dig a hole and position an umbrella however you want it. Then give you a smaller chair to sit in the surf with if you are hot. The Land Rover Discovery drives you down to the beach in under a minute and its nice.

If you get a chance ask the Bellman to get you to a "County Game" (Cricket). Its a blast -- tailgaiting times ten!! We were drunk by noon, but the game went on till about 5:00p!

The place is incredible. We went to Cambridge beaches half-way through our trip and immediately cancelled our reservation and returned to Tuckers. If you are going to stay in Bermuda, this is the place.

Tuckers point hotel and spa is simply stunning. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very large.Definitely worth paying for a room with sea view.
Overall service was very good although in the restaurant, service was on a couple of occasions a little slow.
The fine dining restaurant is lovely although the food is probably not quite up to the standard of the renowned Waterlot Inn at the Fairmont.
Dining at the beach club overlooking the water is a must.
As it was not peak season the hotel was a little on the quiet side and therefore at times lacking a little in atmosphere but this would probably have been the case anywhere else in Bermuda given the time of year.
In terms of location it was several Kms out of Hamilton and so outside of the resort itself there was very little else in terms of shopping/restaurants/other activities in walking distance. Taxis are available but pricey. Scooter rental is widely available including on the premises and is probably the easiest most cost effective way to travel about the island. It was great fun! Car rental is not possible on the island.
Finally the diving is great and we would highly recommend the dive centre attached to the hotel.
If looking at Tucker's point website you are tempted you will not be disappointed.
We will definitely be going back.

I tagged along with my husband to Bermuda who was there on business. A friend of ours who lives on the island recommended making reservations at Tucker's Point. Little did we know that we checked in the second day it was open. We were the first people to stay in our room so needless to say there were some understandable kinks regarding the t.v. and phone, that weren't worked out quickly, but were taken care of before my husband returned from his meeting. Let me tell you, we've stayed at multiple hotels in Bermuda and this was by far the best one. Anyone who has an issue with the service doesn't understand that you're on Island Time once you step foot off the airplane. You'll get your coffee, towels, food, etc., when you get it and that applies to just about anywhere in Bermuda. We're heading back to Tucker's this Spring but this time with the rest of our family and we're very excited to go. I'll never stay at the Princess again.

Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa makes Bermuda better than ever. It makes the most of the island's beauty and personality. From the extremely gracious staff to the luxurious guest rooms with stunning water views, I felt like royalty during my stay. The dining is superb, the spa is wonderful, and the recreation is top-notch. It's just a gorgeous place to live life beautifully. I highly recommend it.

A lot has been mentioned in earlier reviews that I agree with. What I would like to add is the quiet and peacefulness. Even though the hotel was fully booked, it never looked busy. The informal, elegant ambience invited us to linger around the pool area where there were many more deck chairs than possible guests.
We had to ask for two toothbrush glasses, they don't seem to be standard at this hotel.
The breakfast prices were absolutely comparable with other fine hotels in Bermuda.
A strict dress code is applied.
Wonderful bell-men made the check-in and -out easy and a special adventure. Thank you Raimond.
