We made a last minute 4 day escape to Bermuda from the cold of Northeast. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and well-cared for. Cambridge Beaches is in a beautiful and tranquil setting on the west end of Bermuda with spectacular water views in all directions. Our room was beautiful, clean and quiet. Every staff interaction during our stay was positive - staff was friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, attentive without being overbearing. We felt pampered and well-cared for. I would go back again.

Room Tip: You might have a choice if you want morning sun or afternoon sun on your balcony/porch. Do you want an ocean or by view?

It's the same with hotels as with restaurants. If you desire steak, you don't go to a seafood restaurant. If you want peace and quiet and a place to be romantic with your loved one, Cambridge Beaches is the place for you. If you're looking for excitement (other than the kind you create all on your own), then this is NOT the place for you.

The Beach. Quiet with calm, shallow waters to linger in. Loved the floating hammocks where we laid out in the calm ocean with our drinks replenished by beach stewards. Loved chatting with the beach stewards and getting to know a bit about growing up and living on the island (thanks for everything Paul and Mark!) Even in April, the waters off Cambridge's beach were as warm as anything we have in the middle of summer in the Northeast.

Ambience and Food. The place oozes British charm with it's colony service staff and ample British patrons decked out in bermuda shorts and knee high socks. Loved that most folks were dressed nicely at breakfast. Loved the well appointed breakfast buffet (and you can order dishes like eggs benedict from the kitchen). We always ate such a large breakfast that we didn't even lunch until late in the day, around the time that other guests were likely enjoying afternoon tea in the quaint sitting room at the reception lodge. We always lunched at the beach and the food was light and tasty. Our favorite meals were breakfast and lunch; dinners on and off the hotel property were adequate but not special (we did walk off property to one restaurant which was a local place that served pretty good sushi rolls).

The Room. We stayed in Skeeters, an ocean view room with a ground level patio. I liked the room very much. It was a mix of modern styling with antique furniture. On the modern end were the bed linens with charcoal grey and coral accented pillows (and a grey accent wall), cream colored couch with coral pillows, and coral chair. That was coupled with antique dark wood dressers, tables, nightstands and desk. The room has a separate dressing/make-up area and a very large bathroom. While it clearly wasn't a high end elegant room, the likes of which you see at places like Rosewood, it felt fresh and charming. I suspect the rooms are quite different from cottage to cottage.

The Pools and Property. We loved that the property was spread out and that there were many places to explore. We did not hang out at the outdoor pool since it was unheated and thus colder than the ocean. Probably a great place to be in the summer months when the ocean water is too warm. It's on the smallish side, but the design is interesting. On our last full day it started to rain late and we headed for the indoor pool/spa and stumbled upon a collection of spa experience rooms (rain shower, auroma hot steam room, and cool mist crystal room and a traditional sauna) which we enjoyed.

There wasn't anything about our stay at Cambridge Beaches that did not satisfy us (ok, maybe just when the hot water ran out when we tried to take a bath one day). If you are a laid back person who likes to be alone with his or her loved one, you will love this place. If you demand far more luxury and need energetic surroundings, this is not the place for you.

We very much enjoyed our first stay at Cambridge Beaches. It is a very quick trip from New York, but we felt as though we were a world away as soon as we landed in Bermuda and found ourselves being given a complimentary drink upon our arrival at the hotel.

The grounds are well-maintained (we enjoyed taking a walks through the gardens and nature preserve) and the staff is very friendly. While our stay was relatively brief (three nights and four days) the staff members at Tamarisk and Shutters called us by name. We stayed in a deluxe ocean front room that had a very nice private terrace which contained comfortable sun chairs. We would recommend this room type and found it worth staying in rather than some more expensive options which were located farther from the beach. The beach was a two-minute walk away from our front door. Maid service was excellent. The gym was relatively good for a tropical resort and we took advantage of the spa services which were excellent (kudos to the staff who did a great job for our couples massage).

The resort is in a remote corner of the island, but Bermuda is also very easy to travel around and we had no problem checking out the major shopping spots, dockyard, etc. I do think people self-select Cambridge Beaches if they want to "get away from it all" and not necessarily explore because you really need a cab if you want to go anywhere off the hotel grounds. For this reason I would reccomend taking advantage of a hotel meal plan.

The rooms and furnishings are a little outdated for the price that guests are charged and for a four-diamond award AAA resort. Then again, Cambridge Beaches is a traditional place and the old cottages do retain a certain charm (sometimes "charm" is a euphamism for "outdated and in need of renovation" but in this context I think it's a matter of personal taste). There's a board in the main house where one can see a list of families that come back to Cambridge Beaches year after year. It's a place that clearly caters to its repeat guests. While we felt that most guests were older than us (we are in our early 30s), we also felt relaxed and well-served throughout our stay. We would return again to Cambridge Beaches as it's such an easy trip to make from New York and it is a good place to rest and recooperate.

The resort is on the west end of Bermuda, away from busier Hamilton. It was quiet, and life was simple ... lounging at the beach (the west end also had calmer water than say the south side of Bermuda), good food, friendly staff, great sunsets, a spa. The resort "rooms" are all separate cottages, and we had a petite water view suite, with separate living room area, and a westerly view of the ocean. The guests were mainly couples (some families with older children - no one under 16 allowed at the resort), and I would say that during our stay (the week before Easter) that the average age was 50 - 60 (although as we were leaving, the incoming guests were somewhat younger (perhaps 40's) . My wife and I found ourselves going to bed a little earlier, sleeping a little later, taking walks holding hands .... simple pleasures that showed how relaxed we became. The resort wasn't full by any means, but some guests would start the evening at the Port O' Call bar, and then go on to dinner (either at the resort, or at other restaurants via taxi). Generally, men wore collared shirt, some men wore jackets. The ladies were dressed nicely (aren't they always) :-)
There is a wall with the names/towns of guests whom have stayed at the resort, five, ten, even up to 80 times. When you first see it, you ask yourself how someone could come back so many times. And then, at the end of your stay, you understand why and talk about returning; and you think ... Hey, maybe we'll get our names up on that wall.

Room Tip: If you can splurge for a water view room (facing the west for sunsets), do it.

My stay at Cambridge Beaches Resort was a pure delight. The views from the rooms are spectacular. I enjoyed a quick weekend trip on their private beach that is second to none. I felt like I was in a postcard. The shallow waters in the cove make it even better as you can walk hundreds of yards into the aqua colored ocean. The rooms are very nice and quaint. The property is so peaceful and service is awesome. I would highly recommend if your looking for a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: There isn't a bad room on the property. It is unique by having beaches on all sides of the property.
