“The Local Hot Spot”
Reviewed 21 June 2012

We could tell as soon as we entered that this was where the locals liked to eat. The service was attentive, the menu had lots of choices, the food was very good and the price was fair. We would definiately eat here again.

“Eat like a local! Great food, great prices”
Reviewed 28 February 2012

A Codfish and Potato breakfast is high on my list of musts when visiting Bermuda - I want fish for dinner, lunch AND breakfast!!! With the Paraquet closed for the Winter during our most recent visit, I grabbed a yellow pages, desperate to find an alternative!

The Specialty Inn is located just a few minutes by scooter from the Aquarium, making it a great place to stop either before or after your visit to Flatts. They have received several Best of Bermuda awards, and judging by how crowded it was with locals, the place must be a favourite!!

It was crazy busy on a Saturday in the late morning, BUT the service was flawless! Coffee and juice arrived within minutes of ordering it, our meals were out in a very reasonable time, we never felt rushed - despite the long line of hungry patrons waiting for seats!!

The codfish and potato breakfast was perfect - lots of flakey fish, a huge portion of buttery boiled potatoes, fresh avacado slices, a hard cooked egg, a sweet, ripe banana and lots of onion sauce (an option instead of the more common tomato sauce), and if that was not enough, toast on the side!! Totally fulfilled my craving!!! Himself opted for the Full English, and he loved every bite!! I had to steal a bite of his sausage, and it was excellent!!

Was refreshing that the Specialty Inn does not automatically add on the gratuity, as most restaurants in Bermuda seem to.

If you want to eat like a local, make a trip to the Specialty Inn! Great food, large portions, reasonable prices. Take away is available as well, so perhaps perfect for a picnic at the beach?? Just keep in mind, they are closed on Sunday!

“Where REAL Bermudians eat”
Reviewed 22 December 2011

This was our second visit to Specialty. We went once before in September and but for the service being a bit spottier this time, have the same good things to say about it. First off, both times we've been there (and by the looks of the parking lot) it's been very busy. All walks of life eat here, and many of them simply use it for their 'take out' of pizza etc. The fare runs from burgers at $5 to entrees of around $18, tops. These prices, for Bermuda, are very good. The breakfasts average around $7-9 with heartier ones at $12-13. Portions are reasonable and the food itself, while it's not haute cuisine, is pleasant. We each had breakfast (they serve breakfast til 4pm!), Jim had coffee, and our bill was $20.30. Unlike ANY other Bermudian restaurant i've been, you can tip what you feel your service has been worth instead of the enforced 15% of every other restaurant we've been to. The service we had in September for 4 of us, considering how very busy they were, was great, this time, we seemed caught between two waitresses not knowing who was servicing our table and both the food and check were slow to arrive. Good thing the people-watching was pleasant .... There is a sushi bar and a Japanese side-menu on offer but having lived in Tokyo, we're not interested in Bermuda's (expensive) equivilent. Other than being closed Sundays (the day we most often want to go for brunch), the only negative for us is that this restaurant is on S.Shore at the base of Collector's Hill and we live on the opposite end of the island. But for that, I know we'd probably make Specialty Inn our regular restaurant of choice for when I don't want to cook. Congrats to them for showing other Bermudian restaurants how to stay solvent in this bitter economy!
