We stayed 5 days at the Domaine de Bassilour. The rooms and house is beautifully renovated, there were only 2 other guests during our stay. The owner is very friendly, and the garden is huge (including a big Trampolin for the kids). You need a car to get around (about 5 minutes to the beaches).

We stayed two nights in this hotel. Domaine de Bassilour has a small chateaux and a rustic farmhouse set in the countryside not far from Bidart, which is close to Biarritz. When we stayed the main chateaux was closed but we were given a very comfortable, large, twin room with good sized bathroom in the large rustic farmhouse near the chateaux. The farm is extremely rustic in its decor with a lot of character. It is very clean and comfortable and the staff are all very helpful and friendly. We were able to park our car in the main chateaux car park, which has a gated, coded entrance, but there is also an open car park opposite the farmhouse. There is a pleasant restaurant and old mill in walking distance down the country lane opposite the farmhouse. The room had a well-stocked mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, a small area with table and easy chairs to sit and enjoy the view of the beautiful countryside, free wyfi and an unabtrusive TV. This all helped to make a very comfortable stay.

My husband and I spent every Easter Break over a four year period in the wonderful Ferme de Bassilour. The setting is stunning in the beautiful French countryside, and our stay there was always the highlight of our trip to France. Each time we have stayed (4 times) we have had a different room in the Farmhouse, and each room was as nice as the last - the clawfoot baths always a favorite of mine!

Don't miss the nearby Tantina de la Playa restaurant, the fish is consistently excellent! Easy drive to Biarritz, St. Jean de Luz and Bayonne, so perfect for exploring the area. We definitely recommend a trip to St Jean Pied du Port.

We have now moved to the Middle East and so cannot visit so regularly, but the next time we are in the area we will definitely book in for a couple of days.

The Domaine de Bassilour was the highlight of our trip to France. We stayed in the beautifully renovated 18th-Century chateau next to the 16th-Century farmhouse. The bedroom and bathroom were very spacious with all the comforts of modern times plus an interior design in keeping with the historical origin of the building. The grounds were spectacular, and outside our bedroom window, we viewed the gate into the chateau and horses grazing in the field. The staff was superb, and they really went out of their way to assist us. To experience the riches of the area, it's best to have a car, and since we had not arranged for one, the director drove us to Biarritz airport to rent one. When you stay here, be sure to sign up for the breakfast with the delicious home-made breads and jams.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sophia room, which we really liked.

Stayed there for a week in Sept 2012. Room could have been bigger perhaps but not a problem. Staff lovely and helpful with ideas of where to visit. Rooms very pretty and breakfast room especially so with breakfast good value (Oscar available for adoption daily) Bidart is 4kms and a good town, try out restaurant Auguste near the beach, set menu at 11Euro great value. Also restaurant Moulin about 700 metres from hotel, GREAT food and value ! Biarritz readily accessible 7km away, wife loved people watching, fab Mexican rest - Tex Mex ( go for owners recommendation , hes fluent in English and rightly proud of his produce!). Visit San Sebastien , walk the prom, visit the old town, tapas amazing, just get good directions to/from SS. Coastal route from Ciboure to Hendaye a must see also. Beautiful area with great scenery, we had a ball !

Room Tip: No air conditioning, bring a fan !

We are happy you liked your stay by us. Next time we can lend you fans just ask for it. When the temperature is normal the thick stone walls keeps the house quite cool but this year September was very warm.

We went to a weeding in the Basque country and we stay there for a night. It is a beautiful domaine with a nice garden. The room was really cute and quiet. We loved the little "castle" where we stayed.
We got free coffe, shampoo, rasor kit, shoe shine...it was perfect to be ready for the weeding.
As the weeding finished late, we did not get the chance to try their breakfast. Maybe next time!
We loved it.
