“Restful and welcoming”

We had a lovely, warm welcome and the owner gave us very helpful instructions for finding this little hotel that is on a pedestrianised street just off the main square. Good location, close to plenty of bars and restaurants but very quiet. Our rooms were a good size and very comfortable. I had a very peaceful night's sleep. Would definitely stay here again.

Our double room 3, though large was very spartan in its look and feel. Tiny TV dwarfed by an empty picture-less wall. One metal garden chair and a cheap desk. No chairs to sit in, just the small double bed, a very uncomfortable mattress and no pillows worthy of the name. Strong smell of cigarette smoke, despite it being a 'non-smoking' room. Felt more like a room in an institution.
Door handle broken, suggestive of a wider picture of neglect. Had to find our own replacement towels on the third day as the maid seemed to lose interest in providing them.
To cap it all, woke up on our third and final morning to discover we'd been bitten in numerous places. Strongly suspect bed bugs! Best avoided, very disappointing.

We stayed here for one night traveling from Calais to Paris. The distance was fine from Calais (we could maybe have managed another 30 min drive with our two infants) and the reception was warm and welcoming. The accommodation was above a very nice looking restaurant, with very nice looking food (though we did not sample it). The host was very friendly and helpful even carrying our bags upstairs despite being rather busy and single handed in the restaurant.

The room was a good size for a family room with a double bed, and single bed and a baby cot. Everyone had a comfortable night's sleep. The bathroom was clean but a bit small and the shower head lacking in terms of volume of water but otherwise was in a good state of repair.

We were able to get hot drinks including mil for the baby from the restaurant together with a half pint of the local brew (St Omer).

The main downside of the stay was the lack of lift (we were on 2nd floor) and if staying for more than one night, the lack of parking.

I would recommend this hotel for a short stay and for a family, the room we had was ideal.

Room Tip: For families, the top floor room was perfect.

I stayed here two nights in Room 5, with a friend next-door in Room 6. 72Euro each per night, plus 8Euro per day for breakfast. The pricing is slightly odd, as Room 5 is twice as big as Room 6, and has space for a bathtub (unlike Room 6, which only has a shower). We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening: it was very full on Friday night and almost empty on Saturday.

GOOD points:
-- Great location on a quiet pedestrian street, close to shops, restaurants, etc.
-- Helpful owner, with a nice dog, named "X".
-- Good breakfast: proper strong coffee, very freshly squeezed OJ, croissants and bread fresh from the boulangerie; pleasant dining room. (See pictures)
-- Rooms are clean and generally well-maintained.

BAD points:
-- Perhaps not a problem for some people, but the beds were far too hard for both me and my friend. This led to a lot of uncomfortable shifting around during the night, and not getting a good night's sleep. The (square) pillows also seemed to be an odd thickness: one was not enough for me, but two were too thick!
-- Thin doors/walls, so if someone talks at normal volume on the stairway or landing outside your room, or loudly in the next door room, you can hear every word. So if you want an early night and your neighbour is watching TV -- tough luck! (I wore ear-plugs, so this did not affect me).
-- Elderly or very overweight people may have trouble with the steep narrow stairs. (Not a problem for me).

If you like a firm mattress and sleep deeply or don't mind wearing ear-plugs, I would recommend this place, but personally, I would be reluctant to stay here again and would try somewhere different next time I visit St-Omer.

Though this is not the easiest hotel to locate, make the effort. The food alone is worth the trip, very good and imaginative. Great location in a charming town. Breakfast a touch lacking in service and credit card machine not working, a challenge when one has a train to catch

We ate here twice for dinner and the first time was very good and returned for a second which was probably a mistake as the main courses really did not work well. The owner was welcoming and the ambience warm, good selection of drinks and wines were not over priced, the house ones being very good value. The food which disappointed was a dish of meatballs and a salad with chopped tasteless meat with a frenzy of strawberries which was just so wrong!! (I should have realised when other diners had left theirs!) Such a shame as we had a great cheese quiche to start and the previous night a good fish dish, depending on the menu we would return.

Just retuned from a 1 night stay. Tony the owner is very helpful and friendly. His little dog X is also a joy and makes all the guests welcome. Rooms are clean functional and basic. Tony called us before our arrival to explain the key code for entry - eveything went perfectly. We had room number 2. Nice size room and most importantly a comfy bed The restaurant downstairs is very modern with bags of style and French charm. Our breakfast was ready when we went downstairs. Lovely welcome and service and unlimited coffee to set us up for the day. Only thing missing was maybe some ham/meat to go with the bread, otherwise everything was very tasty We used the hotel as a stop over from a trip from Disneyland Paris. We also like Saint Omer. It's 100 miles from Essex in terms of travel but has a completely different feel to home. Time slows down in Saint Omer, cute shops and tasty restaurants, nice people and a lot less traffic - no wonder Brits love France! By the way you couldn't pick a better hotel for location. Thanks very much and hope to stay there again.
