I've stayed in Saint-Omer a few times but did not know about the marshes. The hotel is situated by the station, it's the Buffet de la Gare originally. It's been modernised and is smart and clean. The restaurant has a god reputation in the town and was very pleasant. All the hotel staff were pleasant and friendly. The bedroom was comfortable with two comfy chairs and a table. We loved the bed with crisp white cotton sheets and a superb foam? I think, mattress.
Best of all for us was the location between the town and he marsh. Canals and irrigation channels cut through the area. Boats and bridges give access to the homes. It is a vast market garden and a joy to cycle through.

As with another reviewer we were intially a little worried as there were roadworks all around but as soon as we entered we were reassured. The hotel is clean and comfortable and provides a good nights sleep at a good price.

We picked this hotel for a 1 night stop over due to its proximity to the ferry on a return journey from Switzerland.

As we approach the hotel there were roadworks and at first it was not clear how we actually got to the hotel car park due to security fencing being around the outside perimeter, and cones and barriers. We parked up at the railway station and walked around the building to find that yes were were actually required to drive around the obstacles to get to the car park!

On entering the building there was not only no one on reception but no one around at all. Even the attached restaurant was all locked up. On the reception desk we found a note with out name on and a key. Our room was 23 (on the top floor). As others have said the stairs up to the top floor are a little precarious (we had an 11 month old with us, which we informed the hotel on the booking form).

On entering the room the first think that hit us was the smell of drains, the so called en-suite was behind a badly fitting sliding door, appeared very dirty, the only light was a little strip light on the mirror above the sink that only worked if you twisted the light bulb and the toilet filled up constantly.

There are no tea/coffee facilities/kettle in the room just some basics in reception (which do not include a kettle which we needed to make little mans bottle), or anyone/anything able to heat up is food. As there was no one around we could not speak to anyone about our issues, so decided to walk into town to find somewhere to get our son some pre-made formula and something to eat.

It is a fair walk into Saint Omer (or at least it felt like it was) but there are a selection of cafe's and a couple of shops there.

If you want to eat at the hotel please note that the opening times stated are incorrect - The signs on the restaurant say that it opens at 6pm however when we went down at this time it was still locked up. We kept trying and about 6.30 we were told that it does not open till 7pm!!

The food was ok, although services was deffinately without a smile.

Would like to say we had a good nights sleep but as others have said there is noise.

Breakfast the following morning was continental in style however was not a buffet there was just a selection of food on your table. They were shocked when my husband asked for milk to put in his tea and seemed a bit put-out to have to get some.

To sum up - grubby, lack of customer service, poor facilities and noisy

Room Tip: Is there a good room??!!!!

25 miles from calais so good place to stay when just off ferry/tunnel. Decent rooms with okay bathroom. Next to rail station whcich is currently being renovated and looks as though it will be fab when finished. We arrived late and kitchen was closing in restaurant but they cooked us pizza which was great! Beer went down well until the bill came - bit pricy at €6.50 for just over a half! Village centre has lots of places to eat if we had arrived earlier. The food that was being served in restaurant looked lovely and seemed very popular with the locals. Would definitely stay here again. No complaints

Rooms are fine, we were on the second floor which I would think would be rather hot in the summer, our shower room was rather small, but the room was nice & clean, small amount of parking on site but the property is right on the station parking so no problem there, apart from the noise from the traffic. Also there was a "disco boat" 200 / 300 mts up the canal which went on till 4 AM! Food was great & if you take the all inclusive package, good value. A little way out of own for other resturants.

Room Tip: Take one on the first floor, worth the extra money, particularly if you find stairs a problem.
