“Perfect location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2009

The hotel is just what you would expect of an Ibis. Smallish rooms but the usual amenities. Breakfast is standard but cheaper than usual and the car park is small but ideally situated. The location is it's strongest point as all areas of the town are within short walking distance. We loved the market which is there every Saturday and has a real buzz about it. Don't miss Sandelin museum which is an unexpected gem in the middle of a bustling town.

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel at least five times in the past five years. We love St. Omer and with it being only 40 minutes from the Tunnel we have got into the habit of deciding on a Friday morning of dashing over to the Ibis at St. Omer for the weekend. Rooms are okay - typically what you would expect from an Ibis. In a nutshell you know that you will get a certain average standard guaranteed. Staff at this hotel are fine although they do begin to recognise us now and we are treated like old friends. The hotel is literally one minute walk from the busy market square and we tend to visit winter time when there are very few tourists. It is now becoming expensive due to the exchange. Its not the cheapest Ibis we have stayed in, but having said that you can park up the car and have a few glasses of dinner with vino. There is a little restaurant just across the road from the front entrance of the hotel with a lady owner which provide excellent set meals. We usually eat there at least one night when we are in the town. She is very welcoming and come highly recommended. Breakfast is a typical Ibis breakfast. However, by the time you pay for your room, pay for the car park and have two breakfasts, it starts to be just short of £100 per night. I would recommend this hotel.

I was a bit concerned by some of the reviews - rude staff, poor parking, hot rooms etc, but I found this to be a typical Ibis. Clean, good sized rooms for an overnight stay and no more, no less that it says in the literature. I wouldn't necessarily stay here for a long time, or for a romantic weekend, but for a one night stopover near to Calais it's perfect. I had no problem parking, the staff were really pleasant and helpful and I was happy with the price. If you don't qnt to take a chance on a small independent hotel (and some of them can be rubbish in France) then you won't go wrong here.
St Omer is an interesting town for a day or so, and the best restaurant (my opinion only!) isn't in the main square where things can be a bit touristy and overpriced.
Drop me a mail if you want my opinion....

It's an Ibis! The rooms are clean and comfortable and well-lit, the linens and towels of good but not great quality, the breakfast abundant, the staff professional and friendly, the housekeeping excellent. You really can't go wrong with an Ibis - they're incredibly good at being what they are, which is a safe, comfortable, clean, attractive place to stay. No more, no less. And this one has the further benefit of being well-located, next to the market square. Take a taxi from the station - it's a killer walk, and the streets aren't all that well marked.

I didn't try the restaurant - the prices are high and there are lots of options in a 5-10 minute walk. There is free wireless internet!

You can get the gist from the other reviews. We have stayed here a couple of times, not because the hotel is much good, but because it has a good location and St Omer is a nice little French market town. The market on Saturday morning is great, there are lots of lovely patisseries and brasseries dotted around, and the food at the Restaurant called Les Trois Caves is great and good value. Back to the hotel - small, hot, basic but clean rooms (although we were not given nonsmoking even though we had reserved), with ensuite bathrooms, tiny carpark, surly management.

Nice enough Ibis right in the centre of town, very small car park, beware of car park rage, an early leaver was blocked in early on Sunday morning and must of woken half the hotel getting out of his parking space.
St Omer looks a nice little place but beware during the day when the Cafe's in the square play rip of the English day tripper, In the evening the bars fill with the local bright young things a nice freindly atmosphere though.
I am sure there is nice places to eat in town but the place we went to was steak & chips with a choice of bought in sources and over priced cheap wine.
Hotel buffet breakfast ok, it was fresh and there was plenty of it, rest of the town looked shut on Sunday morning so not much choice anyway.

Well-positioned for a stop in the town or access to the Calais ferries (40 minutes drive). Parking, however, is poor with a small private courtyard area that fills quickly. We arrived at 5pm and the last 2 spaces filled 5 minutes after that. Otherwise it's parking out on the busy narrow streets, and unloading could be difficult.

Room was standard for Ibis but the decor was tired. If you have a street-side room it is noisy with the windows open. There is no AC.

Our arrival welcome was classic French unsmiling (after 400+ mile drive!). The receptionist next morning was much better, but we were giving her money - €92.80 including €8 each for breakfast and €7 for the privilege of parking off street.

Breakfast was standard continental. OK, nothing else.

Overall, this hotel sufficed for a one-night stop but we will try somewhere else next time. There are better Ibises too.
