5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

My wife and I and another couple have just returned from a three night stay at the hotel. It is set in its own wooded grounds with several rooms in the main building the rest in wooden chalets situated about 30 meters from the main entrance. We stayed in adjoining rooms on the first floor of one of these. The rooms were quiet, clean, well furnished, had comfortable beds and separate shower room and WC. There was a TV (all French channels) and, typical of French Hotels, no kettle for tea or coffee.
We were there from Friday until Monday and ate in the restaurant on Friday and Saturday evening and would have used it again but it was closed on Sunday, though the bar was open for drinks. The food was excellent with a good choice, not cheap but good value for money. The breakfast was good too – a classical continental meal. The restaurant has lovely, panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.
The staff were friendly and had reasonably good command of English (certainly much better than our French).
We chose to stay there as it is located close to the channel tunnel (30 minutes) and the motorway (5 minutes), it also makes visiting Ypres (50 minutes) and the war cemeteries easy.
There are two abbeys within easy walking distance (1km) of the hotel though there is not much else in Wisque and St. Omer is about 15 minutes away by car.
If we were in that area of France again we would definitely look at staying here again.

Stayed a night whilst recently driving back from the Alps. Ideally placed about 40 mins pre tunnel and despite the rooms being slightly dated they were warm, spacious, clean and sensibly priced. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent with proper French formal cooking and very attentive service from the young staff. Immediately befriended by hotel dog who joined us for the evening. Breakfast was good and the owner obviously put himself out as we were the only diners at 7.30am. All in all could definitely recommend the place!

Room Tip: Handy being able to park very near your room.

My wife and I were at the end of a very short trip to France. We had travelled up from the Macon area that day in separate cars. We were tired. We had stayed in the hotel several times so we knew it was a safe bet. Being Sunday the restaurant was closed. So we went into Saint Omer and had an ok meal. Breakfast was fine the next morning. No kettle in the room is a disappointment.

The hotel is lovely. The restaurant and bar seem relatively newly refurbished. The rooms are comfie with good showers and all very clean.

The owner of the hotel, however, is probably the most unfriendly hotelier i have ever met. I found him unwilling to be flexible about the food, about price and also his manner was very unwelcoming especially when he received a fair amount of money from the group.

Thankfully his wife is much more courteous and pleasant and think she should be front of house.

I would certainly not stay in is hotel again and not recommend it despite anne-marie and the other members of staff being very nice.

Have known La Sapiniere for many years, seeing how it has grown and developed over time.
Always a warm and friendly welcome with comforable well fitted rooms and excellent restaurant.
I find it difficult to understand the comments by other UK residents who seem to downgrade a French hotel for serving a continental breakfast, or not providing tea/coffee facilities in a bedroom, when this is not the norm in French hotels. Much of the menu reflects the food of the region, which to me is the sign of a good hotel, as I believe the chef know exactly how to prepare the local specialities.
Traveling from Brittany to Zeebrugge, this is a perfect place to break the journey, leaving an easy run to the ferry port the next day.

All has been said about the beautiful location, the comfortable rooms and the superb food. I would like to add that when the patron saw that I had mobility issues, without fuss he found a ground floor chalet room closest to the main building dining room. The food was, indeed, excellent, a baked garlic and breadcrumbed langoustine dish being a highlight, and the dining was further enhanced by an excellent wine list, several in half bottles; the 2006 St Estephe was pure nectar. Although the hotel is handy to the French ports, I will regard it as a destination hotel and worth an extra day or two in the coastal area.

Room Tip: With chalet rooms you can park your car directly in front of your accommodation for easy unloading.

We decided on a good meal and overnight stay before catching the ferry back home and were pleased we did.
There is a lovely dining room attached to this hotel with sweeping views as others have commented on which makes for a pleasant dining experience. The food was good and the portions generous and we would maybe use it again for a lunch stop during a day-trip to France.
Our bench-mark for restaurants in this area is le Cygne and compared to that it didn't have the flair that le Cygne has although the portions are larger.

Our room was in the original hotel and whilst being clean and comfortable, felt a little tired and old fashioned.
