Part of the L'Amara complex, we stayed in room 204 of the Chandra apartment block. It is superbly appointed, in every way.

General comments, in no particular full order.
You can ski-away from the door right onto the very close beginners green runs and to blue runs.
Good ski lockers with effective boot dryers

Missing towels and bed linen. I was not impressed by the cleaning staff who appeared disorganised and on one occasion quite rude.

Ignore reception, the horse drawn taxis do not stop at 6pm or 7pm and can still be called at 11.30pm number is 04 50 74 01 55 and the charge in Feb was €9 or €10 from L'Amara to the lower part of Avoriaz where most shops and restaurants are. The white caterpillar tracked Avoriaz Transport taxis are still operating at 11.30pm and they charge €8 flat rate for the same journeys; and they are heated, which the horse sleighs are not! Restaurants will happily call a taxi of one type or another for you after dinner.
Best pizzas in town definitely from La Falaise Pizzeria in the Falaise area very close to L'Amara complex.
Fabulous bakery even closer to L'Amara in Falaise area, very close to the three sparkling Christmas trees (yes, in february!) on the same side as the Chapka bar.

Short cut from L'Amara reception to the Falaise area; go 150 yds down the alley to right of L'Amara Skiset sports shop, enter second apartment block on the right (up a slight incline first) walk along the ground floor walkway with open an side, so snow on floor, walk straight ahead as far as you can and at the far end of walkway, which can be dark at night, turn left thru swing doors, up lift to 4th floor, then exit building at ground level of Falaise area. It saves you a long trudge through the deep snow the long way round.

If you walk from the Falaise area down to the main shops and restaurants down the hill; as you leave Falaise turn right immediately before you cross the bridge. Walk down pathway, then turn diagonal left and cross snow covered ground diagonally toward ice rink and shops. It can save you 10 minutes!
Modern kitchen equipment, but no instructions for using the appliances though:
Induction hob only works if you use the correct size pan on each ring, so large pan for large ring, small pan on small ring. Mix them up and nothing happens.
Dishwasher settings not obvious and we never found a reliable way to operate it. Suggest you download user instructions for Whirlpool Power Clean dishwasher if you are booking L'Amara.
The combo microwave and grill took some fathoming. Turn left knob to choose whether grill or microwave or both (knob helpfully marked as "F" ?) the knob on the right marked "+/-” which sets cook time. In between are touch screen buttons , triangle symbol is "stop cooking" one marked "OK" which we couldn't fathom and one marked "!" Which starts cooking. (Again a Whirlpool appliance.).
The extractor fan above the hob only works if it is pulled out, like a drawer.
Well stocked kitchen, proper plates large and small, mugs, dishes, glasses both tumbler and wine, plenty of cutlery, inc sharp bread knife and sharp steak knives plus lots of other things including cork screw, but no breadboard! Electric kettle too!
There is a Sherpa supermarket in the Falaise area but the larger Carrefour down the hill next to the ice-rink is larger and better, stays open till 8.30pm.
TV has USB and HDMI input, but if you want to look at photos or videos you took with your camera you need to select "portal" on remote and choose the source to display them.
Nice big fridge; simple as that!
Wifi speed varies from 7Mb to 12Mb but very good. You need login and password from reception then you Must save page as bookmark for ongoing access to internet.
When you need to empty the swing bins in the apartment you need to carry them to a skip outside the reception or Amenda buildings, see location diagram on wall inside the lifts. (you can cheat if it’s belting down with snow and go down to floor -1, straight ahead and into the car-park. There is a large lift-lid bin on the wall immediately to the left of the door you just came through.
Reception is linked underground to all the apartment blocks. From Chandra building go down in the lift to floor -2, then ahead and left to find the corridor thru to reception building, lots of doors! Then when you get to the reception building go up two floors to get to the reception floor. You can get there thru the car-park from Chandra floor -1 if you prefer.
A Bottle of Heineken beer in reception bar is just slightly under 5€
My advice would be to avoid the skidoo ride excursion. Sold in such a way that you are expecting to ride around the 25 kilometres of the resort, but in reality it was just a series of short and tight circular circuits around the area where the skidoos are kept. It was a follow-my-leader crocodile at low speed, but with an abusive oaf riding at the back screaming and bellowing at anyone who hung back and then accelerated above 20mph to catch up. Worst of all was the requirement when we arrived, to sign a contract which made us each liable for any and all costs of damage , without limitation of cost! By then you have been driven out of the resort to the skidoos so I'm guessing if you say no to signing the unexpected and fierce contract you would be having to walk home as well as lose your €50 per person fee. I feel that Neilson, who I have come to respect greatly over the years from yachting holidays, need to investigate this feature of their Avoriaz holiday and soon; it just isn't good enough in terms of fun, good practice or value for money. Please have a heart to heart with the people running the excursion about why we are paying them money! (it was just the guy at the back who had no manners!)
So what was the Neilson rep like? Pretty poor really....only joking, John was an excellent rep, available when you needed him but not in your face all the time. Nice bloke, patient and with a good knowledge of the resort, a desire to help and support coupled with a good attitude….very much a Neilson rep! (thanks John!)
All in all a really nice break! Oh yes and the skiing as brill!

Room Tip: 204 Chandra is for 6 people and it was great; but 1 x double room downstairs (with own large flat sc...

Stayed here over half term. 4 adults, 3 children in an apartment for 8. £4,000. By French ski apartment standards, the accommodation was spacious and the view was breathtaking. That's the good stuff. The housekeeping is so sloppy that the management need a complete review of this. There was a pile of dirty towels and bed linen outside our door for 6 days, we were only supplied with 4 bath towels between 7 of us, we were a duvet short, there was not enough cutlery nor crockery for 7 of us. One of us had to eat pasta with a spoon - it was like being a toddler again.

The bathrooms had a basic clean, ie. basins and showers had been attended to, but the floors were dirty, the skirting boards were filthy, the whole apartment which was designed to be eco friendly kept falling to bits if we brushed past a piece of wood slightly roughly. This is a year old (or so) apartment. How is it going to sustain another 20 years ? The toilets flushed erratically, the light switches fell off, the lift button panel came away in our hands. And finally, the beds are rock hard - if you like a soft bed, then think again about staying here.

To be fair, if you went to reception and complained they did rectify the situation the same day but, on the whole, it was a poor start to what could have been a wonderful experience for Avoriaz skiers. However, must say that if you are looking for ski in/ski out then this was wonderful. Great location. Credit where credit's due.

Brilliant Hotel to stay in, Car park under hotel so no parking a mile away and dragging your ski stuff to a Hotel another mile away.......very easy to check in, our apartment was a 2 bed room 2 bathroom with 2 balconies room 301 in Amenda, this was really easy to ski in and ski out of our own door so our skis never went down to the locker rooms (which can be a pain) your a little further away from the centre of Avoriaz which means you have to use the horse and carriage a lot more but the kids loved that anyway A start service with a swimming pool and a Spa which stays open until 8pm, Nursery in the hotel as well for kids aged 3 years and up, has a few lovely restaurants and great little bar with funky furniture

Not quite 5* appts but very nice and well appointed. Good size (larger than Les Arcs 1950) with decent appliances and useful lights, plugs etc. Decent size bathroom, plenty of towels and hot water. Comfy seating areas and controllable heating. Minor gripes include a few light bulbs out and the odd wall fitting loose. Nothing to spoil a stay but would agree the appts are not being maintained to the standard they appear to have been built to.

Nice pool area, if a little noisy. Sauna and steam rooms fine and appeared well maintained. Degree in geography needed for navigation but soon got the hang of it. Easy access from resort entrance with underground garage and access to reception. No problems with staff who were helpful and courteous, though it did take two attempts to gain access to room safe. Roomy ski lockers and heated 24/7.

Convenient ski-in, ski-out though a distance from the village centre. If you need to be in the centre first thing (Les Enfants), worth skiing the blue/green Proclou and getting the chair back up to just above the village. Nearest Sherpa is a 10 min round trip (opens at 8) and the excellant Tavernier bakery similar (opens at 7). Great pastries and sandwiches - nice to have lunch on your balcony if the sun is out! We had a great lunch in the restaurant with no name, just up the hill from the Yeti (which was fine).

Didn't have great weather last week in January (wind, rain - all 4 seasons) but navigated the PDS clockwise. Some slow lifts around Chatel to Morgins. Favorite bits around Lindarets and Pre La Joux. Avoriaz very busy relative to normal experiences in January, but perhaps because it sits in the middle of the PDS.

Overall, nice appts and I wouldn't be put off though temper expectations, not everything is perfect and as it should be. Although we like to try somewhere new each year, I would be happy to return.

Room Tip: If large party, try booking Amende 407/8/9 - private lift and floor (sort of)

we arrived at 5pm on friday the 18th jan to be told that cleaners were still cleaning the room. At 5.30 we were given the keys to room 806 on first impressions it all looked good, very new and modern. BUT then we waited 3 hours for towels and agian no info on how to use any of the appliances, on day two we went to use the dish washer and it fell out of it,s opening no fitting screws had been used. all the radiators in the room needed bleeding and the extractor fans in the rooms didn,t work .i feel that if the management took a bit more intrest and employed more cleaning.staff this could be a really nice place to stay.overhall we enjoyed our stay and the sking was very good. Please install some heating in the swiming pool and rectfly poor end finish to rooms this can then be a five star holiday.

Room Tip: all rooms offer great views

Just spent a week here on a snowboarding holiday.
You can ski in/out of your apartment.
Apartment comes with really good appliances - kettle, oven, stove, tv. Everything is pretty new.
Great view of the mountains from our window (stayed in the Prana building, 2nd floor)
Village with nearest supermarket about 20min walk.
Check in for long stays is not until 5pm, and checkout is at 10am.

There are a lot of positives that can be stated about P&V L’Amara and most of these can be found in their advertising. They have certainly made big efforts to overcome the criticisms made earlier this year regarding the long queues on arrival. We were particularly impressed by the reception staff who made every effort to accommodate our early arrival.
Unfortunately, their efforts were NOT matched by those responsible for ensuring the high accommodation standards that we have come to expect from P&V Premiere. Each of the problems listed below should have been spotted by properly trained staff and could have been easily corrected. Lack of attention to detail and the lack of effort in putting them right showed that, beyond the front desk, no-one seemed to care.
Correspondence received before the holiday contained no information of the location of the parking for the residence within the resort.
Residence signage obliterated by snow.
On arrival in apartment, the dishwasher was full of dirty crockery, the windows were filthy and the bedroom carpets were not clean. (Realising the pressure on cleaning staff on changeover day, we cleaned these ourselves)
There were no chairs on the balcony, no bins in the bathrooms or toilets, no toilet brushes. (We were eventually given 5 plastic bags which I assume were to act as bins)
Radio in bathroom (nice touch) did not work.
Only two dressing gowns provided for four adults. (This is as advertised and no extra gowns were available!)
No instructions for use of induction hob and the micro wave/ oven/ grill combo unit.
Some of the saucepans were non-ferrous and therefore would not work on the induction hob.
If you are 1metre 55cms tall you need to stand on a chair to take anything out of the oven. (Designed by a man?)
Some emergency stairs were outside and covered in a foot of snow.
Floor numbers do not match lift buttons provides a source of great hilarity. (e.g. For room 405 on level 4 push button 1) This would not be great problem except that the explanation in the lift is in French and English. On arrivals day, visitors from Eastern Europe were seen stopping at every floor in turn looking for their room while cleaning staff and many others were queuing for the lift.
Trolleys that are available in the car park are best avoided for taking baggage to the room on arrivals day.
They told us arrival that L’Amara would surpass the experiences that we had previously with P&V Premiere in Arc 1950 and Flaine. I have to disagree. The apartments are of a high standard overall but it’s the multitude of little things that could be so easily fixed that let it down.
