In March/April 2013, we stayed in Residence Douchka which is part of P&V's estate in Avoriaz.
We thought the town was great. I am a beginner but my wife is a very good skier / snowboarder and we found a little of everything. The ski in / ski out set up of the town (and our accommodation) were fantastic. For beginners, the number of Blue runs were amazing and they had some very lovely sights along the way. A few of the Reds were okay by my standards and the Black runs were enjoyable for my wife. We went very late in the season and, as you'd guess, getting out earlier rather than later to avoid the reshaping of the slopes.
Despite loving the town, as a couple with ski rental equipment we found out double room to be quite small. It had everything you needed but basic accommodation was the order of the day. Although the Carrefour was miles nicer, a huge selling point of Douchka was that you could enter / exit the accommodation right next to the super market. So all of your essentials were right there, having said that, the Carrefour is worth the trip if you are actually making dinner every night.More
