“Filthy accomodation, appalling service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2011

Under no circumstances should you consider a ski holiday at this accommodation, nor with this company (Snowfox). Also, be very careful about the agent you book your accommodation through. We booked our holiday through skiline.co.uk and although they are an ABTA member, our actual holiday contract turned out to be with Snowfox, who are not affiliated to ABTA – hence no protection.
Snowfox sublets these chalets from Eurogroup. They also have a large hotel (Hotel Rhodedendron) in Plagne 1800. Our chalet was absolutely dismal. Among the many faults were the following:
Dirty - months of dust and grime on most walls, floors and surfaces and a used sanitary towel on a bedroom floor
No hot water for the whole week.
The downstairs bathroom and WC had flooded and were unusable for the holiday(2 bedrooms on this floor).
Broken heaters in the downstairs bedroom - so there was no heat ng in the rooms for 2 days until Snowfox arranged for a couple of portable heaters
No DVD as promised until Snowfox arranged for one again 2 days later
Mice – dead and alive on the groundfloor area where we had to keep our ski boots, goggles, gloves, hats, etc.
Broken sofa
In addition to the chalet being in an appalling state, the chalet maid service was also terrible. Our chalet maid was actually a cleaner from the hotel who had just arrived, had no training in being chalet maid and was totally overwhelmed by the situation and her job. She arrived at the chalet ½ hour before we did, saw that it was total chaos, and had no idea about what to do.
Snowfox is run by Mino and Camilla, who have to be the most disorganized managers we have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Throughout the entire week, neither of them ever came to the chalet to see the problems, despite our repeated requests. The ‘helpline’ phone number was rarely answered, and calls were never returned. On the few occasions they answered the phone, they were unhelpful, unsympathetic and generally dismissive and rude. They were unable to find alternative accommodation for us (with running water) neither in their hotel in Plagne 1800, nor in any other resort.
This was accommodation and service from hell. We would strongly recommend steering clear of both skiline.co.uk (the booking agent), and especially Snowfox (Mino and Camilla).

We were in chalet number 19 booked via an tour operator we have used for years. This was definately not up to the standard we expect from them. We were very disappointed with this accomodation. Yes it was ski in/ ski out but the interior was shabby and uncared for. We had 4 mugs for a group of 8, no cups and saucers, very poor utensils, holes in the curtains, curtains hanging off tracks, dire shower curtains also hanging off tracks, a hole in the wall, several lights not working, power going off when using more than 3 rings on the cooker, miniscule towels, no kitchen bin, ....... I could go on but I think you get the picture! We actually had a great holiday - no thanks to the acomodation and will definately not be going to a eurogroup property again!

It has been my misfortune to stay at this group of Chalets twice due to friends booking on the basis of you get what you booked and paid for. Oh dear how wrong. Two experiences included

- Filthy chalet with previous occupants toe nail cuttings in the bedrooms
- No ski in ski out as advertised and paid for
- Chalet in different village than paid for and not easily accessible
- Self catering but no cooking untensils
- Moved to a different chalet which had cooking utensils but no oven
- Eurogroup staff at reception office rude, unhelpful and basically could not care less. More than happy to argure away the day that it's not their fault
- No bedding though booked for
- No towels though booked for
- Shower head broken spraying water everywhere. Shower also flooded
- Kichen sick flooded unit below as plumbing not secure
- No working lights in some rooms
- Electrical trip circuit going off reguarly
- No satellite TV as advertised
- Chalet build quality and interior that of a garden shed
- Ski pass sent to reception but lost

It would be best to demolish all the chalets and put in a nice ski run down to La Plagne.

I'm not over fussy and realise this is not advertised as 5 star but when you pay for a reasonable standard and do not in any way get what they promise down to basic facilities and cleanliness it's shocking and insulting.

You can see that some reviews have been written that this place is acceptable. It is acceptable ONLY IF your standards are low. This is NOT a 3 or 4 star, which the websites and operators seem to imply or actually state. I think it MIGHT qualify as 2 star.

Since they charge neary €300 to clean the place when you leave, or you do it yourself, its pretty clear that your place MIGHT be somewhat clean to filthy. The seasonal workers could care less and probably pocket the 300 and do next to nothing. we of course cleaned the place twice as clean as when we came.

Here is a list of what went wrong:

• Facilities were just overall beyond well worn. Curtains had been pulled from walls and old holes not filled in, plaster peeling, wood furniture and floors had not been resurfaced in years and had unfinished exposed and “spotty” wood.
• Overall, place was not well cleaned.
• Bed linens were old, stained and simply felt dirty.
• Kitchen chairs had been broken and then fixed with metal screws, others had joints loose and falling apart on two of eight.
• Couches were stained and every couch had one or more rips at joints.
• Furniture was cheap junk.
• TV did not have remote, took 24 hours to get one – tv was filthy
• No DVD player – ridiculous missing item if 4 star
• Windows were dirty, yet we were asked to clean them!
• Missing flush nob on one toilet, requiring us to push down plastic stick.
• Boot room was an unfinished cellar without boot rack – something expected in a 4 star.
• 3 lights did not work – simply missing or had broken bulbs –took 36 hours to repair.
• Under-floor heating in one of 3 rooms did not work, upstairs heater in front bedroom did not work and took 36 hours to get portable heater, leaving front room members of our family freezing for first night.
• Rugs were essentially cheap outdoor felt rugs.
• Staff were overwhelmed with multiple requests for repairs and portable heaters from a number of other chalets (I saw the list which was shown to me and it was about 20 requests long, which is why we had to wait for our items to be fixed). Because of this, they took the attitude that it was MY problem that I should want the basics, like heat and light, in my chalet, and that I should be happy to wait hours and possibly days to have it

This place is not being maintained at all and being milked as a cash cow, charging a lot of money for what at best is a 2 star accommodation. The business model is to trick people into thinking its 4 star, show only a couple of pictures in a tiny box on the website (which shows you nothing) when the place was new, and charge a little less than everywhere else (but way overcharge vs a two star)

This place is PERFECT for 25 year olds on a budget who max out the sleeping conditions and get drunk every night and trash the place a bit. And now you have an idea of what all those stains on the furniture and bedding might be from.

The Chalets des Alpages apartments are different from the actual chalets (which look ok). We went with Neilson and these 4* apartments are not worthy of 1*.
They were filthy - not helped by the end of stay clean it yourself rule. Beds were stained. Sofas were so warn they were ripped. Bunks are in hallway not cabine room. Showers mouldy.
Poor customer service from Eurogroup who run these apartments and from Neilson.
DO NOT TOUCH THEM!

We have just returned (18th April) from Plagne Soleil, staying in the Chalets des Alpages organised by Erna Low. These are proper chalets, although tend to be in a staggered terrace. Beware the Lodges des Alpages - these are appartments in a block - read your brochure carefully! Having read previous reports on this website about the Chalets/Lodges, I wasn't sure what to expect - my hopes were not high.

We were a party of seven - two grandparents (who ski all day - no baby sitting!), daughter, son-in-law, son and two grandchildren aged seven and five. We were allocated a chalet half-way between Plagne Soleil and Plagne Villages, which proved to be ideal - ski in, ski out via a track, large carpark (we drove) and supermarket close by. Despite booking a chalet for seven, we were allocated one that slept ten in proper bedrooms, which although small were perfectly adequate. The chalet was three storeys with a large living area on the first floor incorporating a seating area with sofas, television and fire, kitchen with dishwasher, full cooking facilities (hob, oven and microwave) and dining area with large table and ten chairs. One room was ensuite with a bath and the chalet had two additional shower rooms, one with a separate loo. There was also a large balcony, boiler/ski room and large walk-in cupboard under the stairs for storage. Whilst the boiler room requied a good sweep out, we found the chalet to be clean on arrival, particularly the bathrooms. As we drove, we took our own bedlinen, pillow (fortunately, as the "pillow" supplied was a small square of chopped-up lumpy foam), towels and favourite kitchen utensils (sad I know, but I can't manage without a balloon whisk!). We stocked up with food, basics and wine in both England and Albertville, so required very little shopping in the resort.

The two grandchildren went to the ESF ski school in Plagne Soleil. Make sure you assess your child's ability correctly - my daughter underestimated and in order to be in the correct level of class, the children had to go in the afternoon, which was only two and a half hours instead of the three hours she had paid for - no refunds! The classes were large being the week after Easter - 12 to 13 - but the instructors, who spoke good english, were very kind as the children were the only english kids in the class and they made good progress.

Plagne Soleil and Plagne Villages are very much "French Resorts" in the middle of the La Plagne ski area. It is easy to access any of the individual locations from here - Aime and Mont Albert in one direction, right over to Belle Plagne and Les Coches in the other. If you want to be with the Brits, go to Belle Plagne (we've stayed there at least eight times!) Plagne Soleil and Plagne Villages have no "nightlife" except for the odd restuarant - head for Plagne Centre on the free bus or cable car.

Would we go again - definitely yes!
