Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 23 March 2014

We stayed at the Deux Domaines with a party of six parents, six infants and us, grandparents to twin 2 & 3/4 year olds. The hotel is run by Esprit and the staff are young and enthusiastic. Most things worked well first time and the staff really worked quickly to repair minor items like one of the lights in the room when it failed.

Rooms are spacious and the views are outstanding. It is possible to ski in and out of the hotel along a 50 metre private trail. The ski room was great with private cubicles with heated boot rails. The hotel organised ski and boot hire with a really helpful local company that delivered the skis to the hotel. The only drawback is that the hotel covers around 12 floors as a result of being built into the mountain so there are entrances at the bottom and the top as well as the skiing access somewhere in the middle.

Public areas are well appointed and the afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes is a wonderful institution. The dining room is attractive with fine views and the food was of a high standard. Breakfast was traditional English or continental and the dinners were well presented and well cooked. An added bonus was unlimited free wine!

The arrangements for children are the thing that differentiates the hotel. Our grandchildren were safe in the nursery while their parents skied every day and our friends' four and seven year olds really learned to ski while their parents skied all day. Food for the children was well arranged. All the children seemed to be enjoying themselves

Above all, the staff were a delight. On average, they were very young, but they were anxious to please and all of them gave over 100%. I have no hesitation in recommending Les Deux Domaines ... While we were there, the snow was good and we had 5 out of six days with bright Sun. La Plagne is a good place to intermediates.

Room Tip: We had a South West facing room with a balcony and excellent views

This was my first skiing holiday and my family had a brilliant time!

Hotel: Chalet style hotel with spacious rooms and beautiful views of the slopes. Single beds joined to make a double. Large shower over bath-warm. No toiletries. Separate toilet from the room. English t.v. channels. Empty fridge for stock piling drinks. Balcony. Lack of information in room about facilities

Staff: young and enthusiastic.

Cleaning: Outstanding. Robyn our cleaner left little messages and made the effort to fold clothes. Very impressed.

Childcare: Excellent. Many activities including bumboarding and visit to the ice caves. Staff energetic and interacted well with the children. Supervised meals. My son was desperate to go to the club every day! English staff. Ski lessons brilliant- held in ESF nursery where kids learnt to parallel ski and turn.

Food: Breakfast included a range of juices, pastries and a cooked breakfast. 5 course meals every night-standard of 1 rosette restaurants in UK. Succulent cod dish, beetroot rosti, herb crusted cod, crème brulee, fish cakes. Afternoon tea a real treat (eclairs, lemon cake, baguette sandwiches, soup). All delicious.

Pool and facilities: Adult only hot tub on 1st floor fantastic-need to ask reception to put on if go before 4pm. Pool warm and child friendly. Maintenance issues a real problem at the hotel. Sauna, steam room and 1 x outdoor hot tub out of order for most of the week break.

Negative issue: My helmet and goggles were stolen from my locker after my first day of skiing. There are no locks on the lockers and apparently things have gone missing in the past (mainly by guests accidently taking wrong items). I had to pay the ski hire company for the helmet. Very difficult to get a police report.

Airport transfer: airport small with limited facilities. Coach journey 2 hours.

Helpful tips:
1. Bring your own toiletries
2. Spa close by-buy drinks from here and put in room fridge
3. For beginner (debutante): no green slopes, mainly blue but personally found this pushed my progression than holding me back! Ski lessons excellent but make sure Esprit staff tell you where the meeting point is.
4. Outdoor hot tub between 2-4pm quiet.
5. BOOK meal out on Wednesday night (chalet time off). We went to K2 which had a good fixed price menu at 31 euros and children's menu. People turned away from restaurant as fully booked. La casetta is small inside but does fresh, flavoursome pasta dishes and pizza.
6. Bring your own children swim aids (no arm bands/floats/wobbles)
7. On departure day get some snacks for the journey home
8. Collect ski gear asap

We were between giving the hotel 4 stars (stolen helmet, maintenance issues) but on balance gave 5 stars as we had a truely memorable holiday and would return again.

Most good things about this hotel have been said through the preceding 131 reviews.
In summary:-

-Excellent childcare (if you are so minded, Esprit has facilities to look after your kids 14hrs a day!)
-Can't imagine wanting to come here without kids - it's very much a family atmosphere
-Staff assisted with luggage & ski hire on arrival (organised delivery of our skis)
-Skiing from the door step via adjacent blue run (stay high to get back to the door without poling!)
-Ski school from doorstep
-At midway through the season the staff new what they were doing and were helpful & friendly
-Pleasant 3 course meals + canapés + cheese + average wine + spirits, seating with other guests
-Spacious rooms, generally quiet with ample hot water (view blocked by roof & snow Rm 101)
-Boot dryers in dedicated room lockers within the boot/ski room
-Small village centre with ten pin bowling, pool, restaurants, equipment hire shops and store

Minor gripes - not all related to the hotel

Welcome speeches felt rushed and some miscommunication of information
No sinks in room toilets
Sofa bed quality not great; tired and not a comfortable for our children
No drinks making facilities in room and no decaf tea - take your own
DVD hire facility (might be nice) take your own
Hotel hot tub closed during our stay
Trolley to take ski gear back would be nice
Adjacent blue run (Arpette) is steep in the vicinity of the hotel and gets very busy at home time
Lifts in Plagne Bellcote erratic. Massive queues on one day after fresh snow [30mins+]
Takeaway breakfast should be available to all residents on day of departure

Room Tip: The hotel is constructed on a sloping site and spread over 13 floors in 3 blocks. The guest accommod...

We stayed in des deux domains in the second week in January.we had a worrying start when our plane was diverted from Chambery to Lyon but somehow the Esprite staff were there to meet us, and had buses on the way.
We were met at the door and our luggage carried to our room for us.
Our room was very spacious with a fantastic view (not a crane in sight). The room was exceptionally clean with a wee fact of the day. Meals were great with unlimited decent wine.
It was true ski in ski out as described.
We can't thank the manager Becky and her staff enough for making our holiday such a success.

We booked last minute for this gorgeous hotel and have no complaints.
This is our third year with Esprit and we love their attention to detail especially the child care.
Having previously stayed in much smaller chalets I was a little worried about the size of this one but in hindsight there was no need to be.
From the outset we loved it! The welcome included mulled wine, hot chocolate or squash, the suite was huge, the spa/ swimming area was great, the canapés and cocktails were gorgeous and the choice if food every evening was wonderful. My husband enjoyed cheese and biscuits every night but I never had any room! Our daughter was ill one evening so instead of using the valuable baby listening service we had our meal delivered as room service - perfect.
The children were well cared for and loved their lessons and the supervised lunch club giving us 5 hrs of door to door skiing everyday and the opportunity to ski as a family every afternoon.
A great holiday and I will be rebooking!!
Go for it!!

Just home after a fabulous family holiday! I cannot fault this hotel at all! Staff are very friendly and go out of there way to help you! No problem is to small! Child care is fanatastic zoe and christine were excellent with mine and my sisters little girls! My eldest was in spritelets and mini cocoa clubs and she throughly enjoyed it and made loads of new friends! She loved her first week of skiing which was made fun by the esprit staff! The food was exceptional breakfast was so easy and stress free with loads of choices! The Main meal at night started with appetisers and a drink in the bar followed by a starter, main, desserts and cheese in the restaurant with free red, white or rose wine followed by a choice of coffee or tea! Every meal was delicious! The rooms were very clean and tidy on arrival with excellent views of the piste and belle cote! The pool was slightly cold when we first arrived but was quickly rectified by the manager! The hot tub was lovely and warm and the sauna and steam room was great after a day of skiing! Overall this hotel was exceptional and will be hard to beat! I would reccomend anyone and everyone to go to this hotel!

Returned last week from a amazing time in belle plagne! It was our 1st time skiing as a family with our 5yr old & 10mth old & we couldn't have asked for a better holiday. The chalet hotel is fab, clean, big rooms and right on the slopes with fab views out of the room. Well done to the chefs every meal was wonderful looked forward to the large spread of afternoon tea and dinner...thanks guys :) the childrens meals were also great it was nice to know our children were getting fed proper home cooked food everyday not junk. The childrens clubs are wonderful, daughter went to ski school in the morning followed by lunch and then snow club, haven't seen her so happy & excited in ages she couldn't wait to get going every morning. Our son was in nursery, he was taken good care of & never came out with a dirty nappy and he was never unhappy when I collected him, the staff were great & would take them out twice a day for walks & on the last day we were presented with a folder with some bits they had done with him in the week.....so a massive thankyou, ski teachers, snow rangers and nursery staff you all made our holiday so stress free knowing the children were being so well looked after. Wasn't sure about the baby listening service when we booked the holiday but what a great idea, fab service from all the listeners every night.
Can't thank all the staff of Des Domaines enough, well done guys & esprit we will see you again next year :)
