“Basic but fun”
Reviewed 13 March 2013

We had a fab time here, location great, hotel basic but clean, staff friendly and helpful, food filling and hotel had a lovely atmosphere, definitely the best ski holiday we have had. If you are looking for a no frills holiday but lots of fun, then this is the place for you. Only criticism is the rooms are too hot at night, please turn the heating down. However rather hot than cold. Well done guys.

The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.
The room was comfortable and had a great view. The electric sockets need some work to bring them up to standard (loose). Bath and shower were great.
Location was great - next to a Skiset shop (La Masse ). Ski room opened onto a blue piste with 4 lifts within a few hundred metres. Bar and restaurant area that seated all guests in one sitting. No spa or swimming pool or gym ... but who cares when you're on a skiing holiday!
Liked best: location plus friendly staff and guests.
Liked least: our room was very hot, even though there was no heating on, so we slept with the balcony door open even though it was minus 15 outside! But better than being cold!!

Room Tip: Rooms are allocated in advance but you could try asking for a room with a view on the west side to g...

Just returned from an excellent week in Les Menuires where we stayed at Les Christelles. We we were looked after very well by Sarah and her team who truly make the best out of the limited 'hotel' resource they have. If you are expecting luxury then don't book Les Christelles.

Les Christelle is a functional, comfortable accommodation block that is saved only by its fantastic 'ski-in, ski-out' location and the warmth and friendliness of the wonderful team that made our stay enjoyable. The building is old, dark and aesthetically cold but the dining area was comfortable and warm and a nice environment to enjoy the lovely meals and cakes that Shane prepared each day.

We were a party of 4 adults and shared a quad room. The main room was a nice comfortable size but the closet that contained the bunk bed for the other 2 adults in our group was bordering on unacceptable. It would be a great size room for 2 Leprechauns but not for 2 adults. A reduction should be offered if this room is offered to 4 adults.

As mentioned Sarah and her team were always available and helpful. Special mention to Harry and Tuggy who helped me to locate and retrieve my backpack from a mountain restaurant on our last morning after I had accidentally left it behind me.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony overlooking the slopes for lovely morning views.

I stayed here last week, with my husband, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were welcomed and looked after. Staff were friendly and nothing was a bother - I never once felt they were just waiting on us leaving for the day, so they themselves could get out skiing (as I've encountered previously). The manager, Sarah, is a credit to Ski France - she runs a tight ship and quite obviously cares about the hotel and its guests. Even when we were in town and bumped into her, she took time to stop and have a chat and ask if everything was going well with our stay.

The food was really delicious and every bit as good, if not better, than some of the restaurants we've eaten in, in town. Even the included wine which can sometimes be dubious, was nice to drink.

Our room was clean and as we'd expect. The beds are very comfy, with clean, soft bedding. Definitely better than some other places I've experienced, i.e. lumpy mattresses with one thin pillow which has to be folded to the size of a postage stamp! It would have been nice to have a towel change, although I am aware of why there isn't one and guests are pre-advised of this when booking, so we just took our own spares.

The location is second to none and we loved the ski in/ski out aspect of the hotel - no trailing half a mile to the nearest lift, carrying skis and wearing ski boots :) We also loved the free yoghurt pot lifts next to the hotel which take you into town and run until 11pm.

The hotel definitely does need an upgrade and repair work - it would make all the difference - however the positives made up for this during our stay. I would have no hesitation in staying here again, should I go back to Les Menuires.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.

First, les menuires is an excellent area for skiers to get to all three valley's from... lots of exploring can be done from this central location. 5 stars

To les christelles, the place is worn down and needs a lot of work as everyone has said.
Service-wise, quite poor. The rooms were not cleaned, the towels were changed only on demand, shower and bidet were blocked with hair, rubbish from previous occupants was found under the bed.

Breakfast quantities were miserly, when asking for a cooked breakfast (thats right you have to ask), make sure to just say you want everything otherwise be prepared to be served up a item or two on a plate. Scrambled egg with beans was one egg scrambled with approximately 2 tablespoons of baked beans. Bacon rashers looked like half the normal size, i got the distinct feeling food was on a bit of a budget and savings were made in the breakfast service.
As most people were going to be out all day skiing, it's important to feel fuelled up, so negative stars here.

Cakes at lunch were good, shame there wasn't any cutlery around so eating with your hands after a days skiing was the norn (the W/C downstairs wasn't clean either).

Dinner was served promptly at half 7, Shane the chef did a good job on this, I would say keeping things simple and serving up standard food rather than trying to produce French classics each night would have been preferred for me, but can't complain as overall the mains were always good and deserts yummy. Those who didn't eat cheese had alternative meals when needed.

The staff overall were hit and miss for me, a lot of people have said Sarah the manageress was very good, but I found her to be a strange character, emotionally unattached from the guests, she is informative but ask anyone whose lived there for a season and you'll get the same answers back.
The two blonde girls holly and naomi were very nice, polite and made time to talk and mingle with the guests as did the ponytail guy harry, who was also great... professional. The girl with brown hair was strange, again a bit like sarah it appeared she didn't want to be there, or was just going through the motions.

Overall, id say the location is amazing so go les menuires as its cheap and has great access to everywhere. I would recommend people to stay there who arent that fussed overly with cleanliness or need that much support from staff.

Just returned from our first ever ski trip so have nothing to compare to but we had a fantastic time and the location of this hotel was perfect. our ground floor room faced the piste and the views from our room were amazing. The accommodation would certainly benefit from a makeover but it was clean and warm and the staff had done the best with the resources available to them.

The rooms are basic, the beds weren't the best, nor the worst I've ever slept in but the bedding itself was good. The bathroom was a bit dated but functional and the towels were of a decent quality.

As well as the location it is the staff that make this hotel a good place to stay. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left they couldn't do enough for us. The whole team worked tirelessly throughout the week and we really couldn't have been better looked after. Sarah, the hotel manager is lovely as are the rest of her team, they are so polite and friendly and a real asset to the hotel. The food was fantastic and Shane does an amazing job even catering for fussy eaters like me! From the cooked breakfast in a morning to his yummy cakes in the afternoon and his delicious three course meals served every evening (except weds day off) it was fantastic.

I hope the owners see the potential here as it would not take much investment to make this a fabulous hotel, all the ingredients are there, it just needs a makeover.

Room Tip: My review is based on a room facing the piste and I would recommend you ask for this

Just returned from one week of fantastic skiing in the 3 valleys in a family party of five. The chalet hotel is not the best looking and the fixtures are in need of some TLC; however the location ( with true ski in ski out ) combined with faultless service from incredibly lovely staff and delicious food, more than compensate.
Sarah the manager is knowledgable, efficient and friendly. She knows that the accommodation is basic so works hard to ensure that it is warm, clean and welcoming. I would absolutely recommend this chalet hotel to anyone not requiring frills (eg no spa) but with a desire for good honest accommodation with great access to slopes and local facilities. Lashings of hot water and a powerful water pressure in the shower was more than adequate.

As for Les Menuires - I have never seen lift queues as long in the 10 years I have been skiing but in fairness it was French school holidays - Meribel was my favourite of the three valleys by far with the best runs and interlinked ski lifts (sans queues!)

Great spot, highly recommend it - a credit to Sarah and her team

Room Tip: Facing the piste with the sun shining brightly on the mountain - breathtaking!
