“Great Location, Great Food, Great Skiing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2008

After booking this hotel and reading some mixed reviews on here I thought I would be doing this hotel, resort and staff an injustice if I did not post a review.

We had a great time staying in the Hotel Des Alpes. The hotel is perfectly located just meters away from one of the main gondola's and chair lift servicing les Menuires.

The Skiing was superb, we went the last week of January, the snow cover was excellent and the sun shined for all but one of the days we were there. Les Menuires has great access to the 3 valleys. You are basically a mornings skiing from most of the major resorts in the area and we often found ourselves to be the only people skiing on some of the runs! Due to the great conditions we had plenty of time to explore the ski areas in Meribel, Val Thorens and the expensive Courcheval.

Now onto the hotel, as said before it has a great location. The Food was excellent and there was plenty of it. There was a hot and cold buffet breakfast in the morning with often omelettes cooked to order in front of you. There was a 4 course main meal in the evening which was lovely. The only down side was there is no choice of main meal but the food is so good I found it hard not to enjoy what was provided. (I don’t like cheese that much but found myself enjoying the tarteflett!

The staff were very helpful and very approachable often giving advice of the best areas to ski and weather reports. They really did add to the great atmosphere around the place!

They might not get everything right with their service sometimes but always did more then enough to put things right should you have a problem.

All in all we had a great time and would not think twice in returning given the opportunity.

Fantastic place - great food, fantastic breakfast with omelettes cooked to order, lift a few metres from the door, evening meals v good (lot of meat dishes, not to everyone's tastes), staff really great, rooms lovely, can't fault it. Great value for money. Les Menuires is a great budget choice for the 3 valleys area, takes a very long time to get over to Courchevel and you have to start back again by the time you get there but that's the choice you make. First Choice were fantastic. Would definitely go there again.

This is a great location, right on the slopes, its a young and lively hotel the busiest bar in the resort, so on the down side it can be very noisy in the evening, its got sky sports one of only two bars in the town to have sky sports. Les Menuire as a resoert is the other down point, its got a great brand new lesure centre, other than swiming etc not much else to do if you dont ski! but that is not the fault of this hotel. The Hotel is very small only around 30 rooms I think, if that. its a first choice owned hotel right at the bottom of the slopes and first choice make a lot of money from the lunch time trade eating in the bar and the great terrace out the front.

The rooms are basic but nice, the only downside is no WIFI interent access at this hotel, they have got 2 pcs donwstairs however. 3G data access is very good if you have a roaming data card for your laptop.

The food is excellent, its an english hotel run by an english travel company so its all very good. I would give the good 8 or even 9 out of 10 and im a fussy eater. No free wine wine with the meal like some hotels in the area however.

Drinks are a bit expensive at the hotal bar this is how they make money from the lunch time trade and at the busy bar,.Budget for around £40 a night in the bar, beer is around £5 a pint extra, this is normal for ski resorts to charge a lot for beer.

So in summary, good points, the food and you wont find a better location in the alps, door step skiing. and the skiing is great, loads of red and blue runs, no much for the beginer in this resort however, if your a beginer better of going to meribel.
The ski runs down the mountain into les menure back to the hotel are steep and I dont think they are suitable for the beginer, its a blue run, however blue runs in the three valley area can be worse than reds in other countries.

Sky sports is great.

Down points,
Very English, no culture here, its like being in bendom!
No wifi internet at the hotel
Very noisy bar up to 11pm or midnight etc, so might no suite families or older people.
Whist this has the busiest bar in the resort the rest of the night life in les menuire is very poor its a quite resort excellent skiing, 10 out of 10 for the skiing, however only 5 out of 10 for the nght life.
Nothing to do for no skiers other than the excellent lesuire centre and swimming pool.

This is a first choice run chalet/hotel wih the normal chalet staff (gap year etc.). The place is amazing. The location is the best i have ever stayed at, right at the bottom of the slope. Les Menuires is an amazing resort, not too busy so the skiing is excellent yet with many bars and a central shopping area.
The supermarket is next door to the hotel, the ski rental shop is next door to the hotel... everything is, even the main chairlift so you can be on all the slopes before everyone else!
The service is excellent, so if the food, stunning for such low value.
The rooms are small but you really spend no time there at all.
If you are going here, you are lucky, i will be going back, probably year after year, such amazing value for money.

The only niggle is that my duvet was on the dirty side, even when it had been replaced.
This is a budget hotel that really is much better than the budget.

Booked half term at this hotel with fairly short notice through First Choice, and was worried after reading another review the day before we left! Needn't have worried, we had a great time. This hotel is known as the Skilt in resort and is only 2 stars but the staff (mainly students) were friendly, helpful and plentiful. We'd booked a room for 4 although travelling with just our 17-year old. We had what had been 2 connecting rooms (without the door) which meant we had a shower room and a bathroom (small bath) and a separate toilet. We were comfortable, warm and had loads of space (although comfy chairs or any chairs in the room would have been good). The food was excellent, and the location right in the centre of the resort and beside the ski school meeting place and lifts couldn't have been more convenient. It helped that the weather and skiing conditions were brilliant. I understand that there may often be groups in this hotel but there weren't any over half term.

This hotel was basic, though offered a great location being situated a few metres away from the lifts.
