“Fantastic ski base”
Reviewed 23 February 2014 via mobile

3rd stay here in 14 months and once again very pleased with this accommodation.
We stayed half term so inevitably quite busy but check in was much more organised than previous visits which relieved arrival stress!
We had asked for adjoining mezzanine rooms as we had previously but on arrival they had not allocated these to us. After some juggling about they managed to sort out a compromise which was fine with us and without prompting, they gave us free wifi, free tv and free towels for the week as they did for our friends too! This was really appreciated by us and shows that sometimes, moaning and complaining does not get you what you want but good manners does!
Once again very happy with this accommodation.

Stayed here over New Years 2013/4 with a friend for one week. On the whole the experience was very pleasant, although first impressions were pretty awful. Check in was a nightmare, we had to wait around half an hour to do so and when we finally got to the desk we had to pay a 250 euro deposit which we were not expecting to have to pay and had no knowledge of this policy in booking the apartment.

Once we checked in we went to our 4-person room (305 A), which was just adjacent to the reception area, (which made it very loud at night with people coming and going). Upon arriving in the room we discovered that the room had no power at all, none of the plugs/outlets worked, which meant the fridge, kettle and phone chargers were unusable, however the next day we complained about this and the issue was rectified during the day. Another disappointment was that the Wifi router we paid 25 euros for did not work and reception had run out of spares so we had to resort to using the extremely slow network in the lobby which is only worth using when you are the only one in there using it.

The apartment itself was OK, we had a 4 person room which would be suitable only for a family with two small children if four people were staying in the room; there was a double bed and and a sofa bed with two separate mattresses, one on the sofa and one futon stored underneath. The apartment was very cramped even for two, wardrobe space was OK however cupboard space was poor as all was taken up with crockery and cutlery. The kitchen area however was more than adequate for two people, four hot plates, a microwave, kettle, toaster and dishwasher as well as lots of plates and cutlery etc. The TV in the room confused us slightly as we had not paid the 40 euros charge to have a working TV in the room however the one in there worked fine and we got away with not paying for it, although the only english channel on there is Sky News so there isn't much point spending the money as a UK tourist for the TV.

The beds in the apartment were very comfortable and there were no issues with the rest of the apartment however a balcony would have been desirable as our room was a ground floor room overlooking the village so privacy was poor and as a result we could not open windows.

The ski lockers in the building are very cramped in peak times, our locker (305) even had a ceiling pillar in it which made it very difficult to get two sets of equipment in there, for four people, it simply would not work. The other facilities of the apartment include a pool, gym and spa area, none of which we used.

The location of the building is OK, not as good as it's made out to be though, although there are two convenience stores within a two minute walk (Sherpa (good) and Proxi (poor)) the main town center at Valmeinier 1800 is a good 15-20 minute walk, which feels like ages on the way back up, as the ascent from the town to the building is 150m! However the pistes can be accessed at this higher point after a 100m walk from the ski lockers. The ski area itself is really good and the queues for the lifts aren't too bad and there is a lot of skiing especially for intermediates like us.

Valmeinier 1800 is also a very well facilitated town, with a good sized tourist office, an array of restaurants/bars and a dozen or so ski rental shops, and the fireworks on NYE were impressive fro such a small town. The town is very small and makes for a good relaxing getaway however it is a nightmare to travel to without getting a taxi as unlike the big resorts there are no direct transfers from the airport. After getting a flight to Grenoble we had to get a bus to the train station, then two trains to the St Michel Valloir and then a taxi up the mountain, this took around 8 hours from landing in Grenoble. My advice would be to rent a car, due to my age, we couldn't do this.

I hope this review of the apartments and the local area has been informative, despite the bad first impressions on the whole the holiday was relaxing and enjoyable and I would return should I choose to ski in Valmeinier again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on the ground floor they do not have balconies and privacy is limited. Room 305...

Short walking distance from the slopes, clean, warm, no frills apartment. Our apartment was for 4 people but would be pretty tight for 4 adults. Since I was there with my 2 friends we were very comfortable. Nice new kitchen. We had samo young englis people... they was to loud!!!!

Short walking distance from the slopes, clean, quite, warm, no frills apartment. Our apartment was for 4 people but would be pretty tight for 4 adults. Since I was there only with my wife we were very comfortable. Nice new kitchen. The only problem being that it was on top of the resort and walking back from the main center could be difficult for non sporty folks. We enjoyed the extra burn up of calories! Will be going back. Oh yes... the wi-fi connection is not so good.

We really like these apartments, they are warm, clean, quite big, all have balconies, quiet (not many, if any groups of loud youngsters). The reception staff we have always found to be very helpful and polite (good job Stefan). We have experienced all the sizes of apartment over the years of returning back from the 4 person, 6 person to the 8 person and they have not dissapointed. The swimming pool is nice to have as an option to relax after skiing.
We would have given a 5 for the rating but like Dragojevic V (previous reviewer) it would be really nice to have some hooks in the apartment hallway/lobby for wet ski clothing! Love the place cannot wait to return. We only got back last week and are in the process of booking again for xmas/new year, bring it on!!! As for parking judge your arrival time very carefully, parking at a premium.

Room Tip: I always ask for slope facing, but with the 4 person apartment that is probably what you will get a...
