I have visited all of the state parks within a couple hundred miles of Fort Worth and Dallas, and just discovered this great park less than 100 miles from Fort Worth. It is one of the very best in the area - a must visit. It has a beautiful forest, nice hiking trail, great lake for paddling, a pretty good campground, and a nice fishing pond for the kids (if the 2 river otters cavorting on this little lake have not eaten everything). Plus it is within a few miles of "reconstructed" Fort Parker, the Confederate Reunion Grounds Historic Site, and the Parker Monument just west of Grosbeck. For canoers and kayakers, the park is on the Limestone Bluffs Paddling Trail downstream from the Confederate Reunion Grounds. And for birders, the woods and lake offer great birding. And, hey, the staff at the park are very nice.
