“Very sweet”
Reviewed 25 September 2012

We stayed 7 days (September 2012) here and had a very relaxing, quiet, week. Personal is very polite and discrete. Swimming pool is nice and clean, appartment are large and comfortable. We were offered a big room although we had paid for a small one. City is closed, beach also.

We recommend it!For the low price (off season), it is asolutely worth it.

Pros first:
nice location not far from the sea, small pool in the complex
large bathroom
Cons second:
Very, VERY uncomfortable sofa that was supposed to be used as bed in our (1 room) appartment.
Sofa was dirty, with stains from possibly generations of guests in this premise.
So was the wall above sofa - sweat stains all over the wall, linens were dirty despite their packing in a sealed foil. Bonus: you have to pay EUR 40.- to get the linens, because they are not included in the price of acommodation.
The hotel reception requires EUR 150.- as a not specified deposit for "just in case"...
Overal: a wasted chance and a disappointing experience. The facility needs more care, cleaning and washing, it all feels just dirty and not like a 3* premise. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Room Tip: Don't bother

We have just returned from a 12 night stay in The Palau Green Village and have had a positive experience. Firstly the apartments are MASSIVE with a very large Dinning room with brand new sofa bed, large bathroom (water pressure could be better) and double bedroom with lots of storage and terrace overlooking the pool. The kitchen (which connects to the dinning room) is more than adequate with a fridge, 3 ring gas burner and a microwave with oven and grill function. Plenty of cutlery and utensils were there for us (even a coffee percolator!), but no chopping board, flat dinner plates (all slightly bowl-like, for pasta I guess) or sharp knives (we had a big kitchen knife but it was completely blunt). We were able to cook a few good meals there which is more than I can say for some of the self catering places where I’ve stayed!!!

Rooms are clean when you arrive and are cleaned when you leave (apart from the kitchen area which you must clean yourself) but it is the responsibility of the guest to clean throughout the stay. Sheets are not made – again, this is the responsibility of the guest. Sheets can be exchanged once a week and I think there are laundry facilities if that’s not frequent enough! Consider this place like a house-swap; you get everything you need but no staff!

This brings me to my most negative point. The “reception” is barely ever open. I think the official opening hours are 4:30 to 5:30 or something similar. Guests arriving before this (like us for instance who arrived at 1pm) have to linger and occupy their time until it opens. Guests arriving after this time, well, we saw some of them, god only knows. Some had children so I hope they managed to make contact and obtain their keys. This really, really isn’t good enough; the place must do something about this as it’s just not acceptable and could well be the main reason for some of the previous negative reviews. As a first impression it’s not a good one!!!

The pool area is very nice and sheltered from the breezes. The nearby beach was nice but we never used it because there are far nicer beaches elsewhere.

The apartments are a 5 minute walk from the centre of Palau which has enough dinning options for us not to have to revisit anywhere twice during our stay. The options include Italian food, Italian food and Italian food… which was nice… but surprising, we had expected a little more variety because that what you get everywhere else in the world! The best restaurant we fount was “Ristorante Del Porticciolo” – its rustic, without any views set back from the harbour to the left of town if you have your back to the sea. It’s packed with locals, offers MASSIVE delicious portions and is very reasonably priced.

Best beaches we found were Porto Pollo, The beach at Santa Terresea Di Gullia, Rosemary beach (just south of Porto Cervo), “principal” beach (right next to rosemary beach) and “little Tahiti” beach which has the clearest water I have ever seen… this place shows you what “crystal” clear really means… but that one is south of Olbia so miles away. There are quite a few sights and attractions around that are worth a visit so even a rainy day or two (but probably not three) can be occupied with no-beach related activities. Visit “Roccia Dell Orso” on a windy day – trust me, its funny!

Access to La Maddelena etc is very easy with the ferry leaving every 30 minutes from the port – about a 2 minute drive from the apartments. There are some nice beaches there but I was not that impressed with the town itself. Like everywhere else beware the siesta – everything (including the tourist shops and even some of the restaurants) close from about 12noon until 4pm – so if you arrive there at this time be aware you won’t be doing any shopping.

My final niggle, is that the pricing isn’t that clear if booking independently via the internet. When you arrive you will be relieved of your room rate + “service charge” to pay for gas, electricity, sheets etc (which was quite expensive) AND a €150 deposit with must be paid in cash. The latter is fine but annoying for those whose home currency isn’t the Euro, because at the end of your holiday you will end up with a big fistful of currency that you don’t have time to use. Again, the hotel must change this because it’s ridiculous and is probably only caused by laziness on their part as it could be held on a credit card like everywhere else in the world… if they could be bothered to get a card machine. The fact that you end up paying-out a lot more than you had anticipated just adds to the bad “first impression” of the place, and isn’t the best way to start your holiday. Shame, because its really not a bad place at all, quite the opposite in fact.
