“friendly and helpful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2012

stayed with my husband in the vista rey from 22nd to 29th of july must say we really enjoyed our stay , rooms really clean tea and coffee facilities were provided , towels and bed linen changed every three days . train on doorstep , travel really cheap. lucianos restaurant down the hill was really good and for lunch would have to say the english supermarket was very good and staff were so nice and friendly. i would reccommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quite relaxing holiday and even if you want a good night out hop on the train and take a taxi back. went to the beach bar one night down in a little cove, tables right beside the sea it was just beautiful. forgot my hairdryer and must say the girl at reception was so nice and let me borrow one on numerous occasions. our flight was not till 9.30 at night and for 20 euro you were allowed keep your room which we found great, you had someplace to shower have a coffee ect instead of having to hang around outside all day

Room Tip: we had a ground floor room which we loved and would like ground floor again when we go., some people...

just got back from 10 days holiday at the vista de ray hotel well where do i start were 4 adults and 2 children room was average clean towel change every 3 days could have done with every other day as we had to dry them for the next day and when you have small children you do use them quite often this hotel is stuck out in the middle of nowhere so if you like walking and climbing the hilly streets all day and all night you start finding out where you have musles you didnt no you had very very tireing for children of a such young age the one good thing i can say is the train stops right out side the hotel and very cheap to travel right food breakfast consisted of cereal 3 choices but were stale meat cheese and 1 toaster for the whole hotel which took over half an hour to toast 3 slices of bread buy then you have a big que for the toaster coffee machine that some days ran out of milk orenge juice no english breakfast what so ever evening meal well what can i say 3 trays of heated food and tin fruit for pudding no drinks you had to buy them this is deffo not a half board hotel it should come into the self catering we did not budget to have to have our brekfast out and evening meal after a few days of eating out we decided to move hotels we were not getting what we paid for 50 euros plus we were spending daily to eat properly in the end we did talk to the manager after he asked why we were leaving and came to an arrangement that if we sorted our own breakfast out he do our food at night cooked in front of us i wouldnt say free of charge as we had already paid this in our holiday all in all staff were fine apart from the horrible lady on reception big lady she was and very ignarant i will not be going back to this hotel but they really should be self catering and not half board as it states cause you will be very disapointed in the food we also had a late flight so there was no room for us to change or freshen up it was the cold shower by the pool in full veiw of every one and then change in the toilet down in the basement of the hotel well i was not going to strip off in front of nobody i just glad that a young couple offerd us there shower to four adults and two children

We as a family of 6 (4 adults 2 children) half board 18th july for 10 days there are good points and bad points to this hotel

Good Points
Trains to fuengirola or benalmadena (main part) is on the opposite side of the road to this hotel and only cost 1.60 and run every 20 mins
Rooms are clean and tidy towels and sheets changed every 3 days the pool is cleaned daily and not very busy through day

Bad Points.
On arrival got greeted by a very ignorant woman named bernita and got told that the rooms that we asked for were allocated and that ground floor would be best as we had children as if she was doing us a favour no tea or coffee facilities in the room as stated

Breakfast well were do i start it consists of cereal which tasted like been there a few days (coco pops, cornflakes, muesli) three sets of jam (peach, strawberry, apple) bread and rolls were rock hard and made harder when you tried to toast which took forever to do on their so called toaster you also had the choice of cheese, salami, ham so if you were after a cooked breakfast you can forget it as you dont get so its catered for just spanish tea, coffee, orange juice provided which was out of a machine which you couldnt take it back to your room even though you have paid for it you have to eat and drink downstairs where the food is
Main Meal is very much the same (cereal still out from breakfast) but no drinks provided neither could you take them down only if bought from the bar your meal would consist of same rock hard bread tinned fruit ham cheese salami cold brown warmed up chips fish chicken and pork even though it was the first and last day we went to eat there we went down just to see if their was anything different but was still the same for the whole 10 days we hadn't budgeted for eating out 3 meals a day which would cost you 60-70 euros a day just to eat plus 9 euros to travel in the end we asked to move hotel due to the very poor food that was on offer here. after complaining to our service provider we waited all day to be informed that the hotel was holding back any money that was owed for the 5 days that we were not gonna stay there the receptionist informed us that we were moving the following day but not told where we were going nor care where we were going finally spoke to the manager and explained the situation that his hotel is good but food is very poor he suggested we ate from the snack bar at his expense which was cooked freshly in front of you cut a long story short we wouldnt stay at this hotel again due to it being in the middle of no where (not benelmadena main where attrctions are) its torremuelle about 5 mins on a train there is not alot to do around here unless u like walking up alot of hills there if you want a beach you would need a good set of legs on you or catch the train the staff that work at the hotel apart from the misery one are very helpful and nice some speak alot of english which they will help you out and some only little english. if you are going to this hotel go self catering as this is not a very good half board hotel.

We (2 adults 2 children) stayed at Vista De Rey Hotel (half board) from 11th to 18th July, and we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The receptionists at the hotel were very helpful, and the location was fantastic. We took walks in the evenings walking up the hills and the house and scenery were just beautiful. The only negative point was the food was too basic. However, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Torremuelle.

Although our holiday was booked for some time we were advised when we arrived that there was only only room left for us. Although we had booked a twin room we were given a double bed.(there was another settee bed that could be made up) We had specific requested a twin bedroom.
The room was clean and the sheets and towels we changed every three days which was just as well as the room was so hot. The air conditioning unit was very ineffective. Night times were the worse. Sleepless nights lying in a pool of sweat not really holiday fun.
We only had bed and breakfast which was a relief. The first morning and the last in the breakfast room made us decide to buy our own food and cook it in the kitchenette. A continental breakfast of rather sweaty looking cold meat and cheese, dry bread and chewy cornflakes was just not appetising.
Scenery around the hotel was very good with nice views from the balcony but there was very little places to go on foot. There were a few small restaurants and a mini- market where you could also eat a meal but all these venues were reached by means of a steep hill and none of these places offered entertainment.
There was no entertainment offered in the hotel. The bar area was virtually deserted, There was an outdoor bar/food serving area but we only saw anyone serving there for one short time and that was on our last day. It was thoroughly miserable in the hotel complex.
The station was close and cheap but none of the stations seemed in close proximity to the attractions at the resort.
Will certainly not be returning.

My partner and I have just come back from a week's Half Board at the Vista. In my opinion, there are both good and bad points about this hotel.

The bad points:
Woman receptionist (a large woman who reminded me of Roz from Monsters Inc, you'll know exactly what I mean if you ever meet her!!) was ignorant and unfriendly. When we arrived she was on the phone which we obviously appreciated as it is her job after all, but she didn't even acknowledge us at all and she had her back to us the whole time she was on the phone, we had to wait a good five minutes before she got to us. When we checked in, she told us our room number and what floor we were on and we headed off to the room. When we got there, we realised we needed a key for the safe so my partner had to go back down to reception and sort out the deposit - we thought the least she could have done was mentioned this at check in! After that we tried to avoid asking any questions if she was on duty.

The food was pretty poor, bread and rolls in the morning with jam and a couple of different cereals to choose from. The evening meal consisted of basic salad and soup for starters then one potato dish, one meat/fish dish and over cooked vegetables then dessert consisted of either tinned fruit or sponge cake.

If you wanted a drink from the bar you had to wait an age for someone to come and serve you then, you had to go over to reception to pay.

If you wanted an ice cream then you had to ask the receptionist as they had the key to the freezer, on one occasion a family had to wait approx 10 minutes for the receptionist to finish the call they were on before they got seen to.

Our bathroom light went out after the second night, we just used to use the little light over the mirror so it wasn't a huge problem but eventhough the maid cleaned the room twice, the light bulb wasn't replaced.

You may be wondering why I gave it a 3/5 based on the above, this is due to the following GOOD points:

Excellent location, as previously stated, you just hop on a train from Malaga Airport and you're outside the hotel less than 30 mins later. The train's brilliant for exploring the area and so cheap too.

The room was spotless and very well equipped for those on a self catering basis.

The pool area was small and friendly.

I know I said the food was really basic earlier - we tended to see what was on offer first and if it looked ok we'd eat in, if we didn't fancy anything then we'd just go into Benalmadena or Torremolinos for something instead. I think we ate in 4 out of the 7 nights and for what we paid for the Half Board option weren't expecting much anyway to be honest.

All in all, for what we paid for our stay the hotel was good value for money and would be suitable for anyone who was planning a holiday on a budget.
