“All Inclusive=Second Class Citizen???”
Reviewed 14 September 2012

We stayed at the Polynesia for a week in April, can't really fault the hotel as it was lovely and clean. The restaurant was nice and as expected some things could have been hotter but we weren't overly concerned. The main restaurant was the only one open and the entertainment was dire. Perhaps though this was because we were there out of season. I wish someone had told me this before I booked as the prices certainly didn't reflect this.
The biggest disappointment for me was the service from the bar staff, it is the first all inclusive hotelI have stayed at where there was more not included than there was available. Also whether you were poolside or in the bar area/lounge day or night you were served drinks in plastic cups!! Meals were at certain times and although stated that snacks would be available outwith these times, it was really just as and when the staff could be bothered. After 9pm your only option for food was the vending machine, so you either ate your evening meal rather late or you went to bed hungry.

The spa is also a joke, especially as the resort is supposedto be a family one. Children under 14 are only allowed in the baby pool - which should really be known as the baby puddle!! We ended up paying approx. £40 for the three of us. The 2 adults taking it in turn to use the rest of the facilities as someone had to be there to supervise my 9 year old in the aforementioned puddle at all times!! The reason we had decided to use this as it was far too cold in the outdoor pool.
My advice to anyone considering a holiday to Costa Del Sol in April is don't, was far too cold and windy and most attractions don't open til end of May/start of June. Something the travel agents fail to mention.

Just returned from the Polynesia hotel on the 10th September. Firstly I would like to state that this was not a bad holiday, with the room very good, the food great, and the service great, ample sunbeds without the need to get up early and claim, water park a shuttle bus away for a change of scenery was good, however would like to point out a few misconceptions and clarify some of the facts v the brochure!!
1. The beach was a shuttle bus ride down the hill (guess at 1/4 mile) and then you had to walk 400m to a part of the beach that was habited by normal holiday makers (not the Spanish with towels on the beach). This also meant negotiating 50 steps up and down, not for the faint hearted:(
2. The "good with kids" actually meant this, as whilst i have no objections to children having raised 3 girls, my wife and I were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of buggies and under 5's, not sure if we were unlucky but never witnessed such a vast amount!! (one of the nippers left a present in the pool on Thursday and closed the pool for the day....lovely).
3. Everthing without exception had a deposit attached- 10 Euros for tv remote, 2.25 Euros per day for the safe, 15 Euros for the loan of the golf clubs, 5 Euros per hour for the spa (not refundable), 15 Euros for each beach towel.....and I am sure there must have been more that I was unaware of?
4. The entertainment was lacking somewhat, and as there was nothing around the hotel you either had to catch a bus or taxi to Benalmedena town or Fuengerola to escape the drivel that was served up.........excruciating search for a star with the children- must have been 25- yes 25 under 5's all pretending to be special (had to laugh at the amount who did gymnastics that turned out to be forward rolls, or cartwheels!!!). In the day the entertainment consisted of things like pool bingo a game where the balls were chucked in the pool and then passed back when the numbers were called??? Archery, darts, pellet gun shooting and water basket (once), all insipid stuff!!
One pointer- the back bacon was only cooked with the omlette chef.....found this half way through the holiday.
Would recommend to young families that do not want to travel around, as very good value for money, but not for the adults that want a quietish holiday.......

Just returned from one weeks holiday for four adults and one four year old. Could not fault the hotel or staff in any way, everything was perfect. If you like to get away from your base sometimes, be prepared for a bus or taxi ride as there are no shops or bars apart from the hotel facilities within a few miles! All in all would highly recommend this hotel for a fantastic holiday.

Myself (27) and my partner (26) have just returned from a week stay at the Hotel Polynesia and what a fantastic holiday! We arrived to a great reception area and very friendly staff!

- Room -

We had a suite room (standard i believe) which consisted of a bedroom with two double beds, a living room with TV, Kitchen, Dining Room and a large bathroom. The room was best room iv stayed in any all inclusive holiday hotel with good views and large balcony.

- Food -

I am a fussy eater and even i was surprised with the choice of food - there is food for everyone and its not repetitive - different food every night of the week - hotel also has an two restaurants which you can visit each one once in the week stay (twice for two weeks).

Food was hot 99.9% of the time - i think there were two occasions where the snack food was slightly cold but nothing where you would need to complain. Drinks available until midnight on all inclusive and any kind of drink you could ask for - even Bloody Marys!!!

- Entertainment -

Not sure why certain reviews state entertainment was poor - there entertainment for kids (disco) etc at night with some games through the day for the kids - there are games ever hour such as mini golf, waterpolo, ping pong etc which bottles champagne could be won.

Entertainment staff were excellent and pool even has lifeguards which is rare.

Evening entertainment includes magic shows, hypnotist (brilliant!) and others.

- Pool & Sunloungers -

OK, so the pool wasnt massive for a 700 room hotel but... it wasnt exactly cramped. There were ALWAYS sunloungers available from morning through to arriving in afternoon.

But...there is a water park which is included for free on all inclusive which has bigger pools, water slides etc - great for the kids (be careful of the wave pool - no kids should enter as the waves can be slightly high!)

- Return? -

YES! we are booking next year with our two kids. We met some great people on holiday of which they have been three years on the trot! Just goes to show the hotel is as it says on the tin...4+ hotel.

Room Tip: some rooms have Jacuzzi's!

We 6 adults 2 teenagers and 1 child stayed here the last week in August. Hotel very big and eye catching. Rooms very spacious comfortable. Pool maybe a little small but we enjoyed it and the little 1 loved it. Food we never had a cold meal and always plenty on offer and were always seated right away. Bar service could have been better some were fast and served with a smile others not so much (the big guy at the pool bar) kids club my little 1 tried it but as their were alot of spanish kids there he found it hard to fit in. Splash park very good but the pools particularly the pirate pool were FREEZING. Holiday rep was very friendly helpful and always had a smile on her face. Location a little far out of the way if you like a walk. Would we go again a big YES.

Huge inpressive hotel, rooms were very spacious for us as we had two kids one 10,and other 7, when we arrived there was no travel cot in room as arranged, one quick call to reception and one was brought up to the room for us. fridge in room with water in on arrival but we had to buy it after that as they only give you cups of water at the bar not bottles, onsite shop had water cheep enough but still, we used quite abit water with having a baby and having to boil water for bottles etc. My 7 yr old loved the kids club and kids disco at night, water park is excellent but best to get the courtesy bus as its hard work with pushchairs and bags etc, drinks were also free in water park but if you wanted lunch there youve got to book with hotel reception the day before. Tried to walk into belamadena one day but really not safe as the paths are very narrow and it quite far as we realised and turned back, got a taxi to the beach in belamadena for 5 euros, beach really nice lots of shops and restaurants very clean. food was geat plenty of choice, not alot for a 10month old but the vegatable puree was a god send, take your own jars if you have a baby thats just starting on solids. i took my own wetabix and porridge as restaurant only have cereals like cornflakes etc. loved the cocktails and my other half loved watching the england game in the huge cinema room. Put my 10mth old in kids club for an hour but because he was baby had to pay 10 euros for an hour. he really enjoyed the ball pool and the staff were lovely with him.

Just returned yesterday from this hotel. We are a couple in our 30's, no children and we had a lovely time. Agree that the evening entertainment could be better - to be honest this is the only thing that would stop us giving 5 stars.
Location - yes is ten mins bus/taxi away from towns but this is described on website, didnt have an issue with this as expected it. hill quite a trek in the heat but during the day the bus is on so not really an issue.
Sunbeds - really confused with a recent review on this as we were there one week and there was always sunbeds available all day. Maybe this family wanted right next to pool in ceratin area as these always went first. Gobsmacked me to be honest that there was no race for sunbeds, maybe it was the time of year but this is the first time I not had to get up at stupid o'clock to secure some. Still loads available at 10am. Being a couple with no kids we found an area ever so slightly away from pool which was perfect for us as not as many children there.
Food - I have quite a restricted diet and did fine. Food is always hot and no queues unless you hit full peak time and even then wasnt too bad.
Snack bar - food available all day next to pool, and kept hot.
Breakfast was brilliant - so much choice.
Cleanliness - after reading a few reviews I took some kitchen wipes with us just in case, but they came back still sealed. Room was spotless as was the hotel.
Cristina the thomson rep on reception is lovely and will do anything to help.
We went to fuergarola beach one day, walked it there, quite a walk to where we went to but beach within 5 - 10 mins walk if you want. Got bus back - approx 3 euros for both of us from there and same price to get from hotel into benalmadena marina.

Overall, lovely holiday, could have done with a few more days there really, definately not ready to come home!
