“Fantastic hotel with amazing food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

We stayed at this hotel for a week in April 2014 with our two children (age 11 and 8) and had an amazing time. The accomodation is absolutely outstanding. Spotlessly clean and very modern - by far the best 4 star hotel we've ever stayed in.
After the reviews, we weren't sure what to expect with the food. All I can say is that the food was out of this world. The hotel management have obviously read some of these reviews and decided to sort things out. There was always plenty on offer with grilled meats and fish cooked fresh to order. An abundance of fresh sea foods and salads. Food never ran out. A couple of times we were the only ones left in the dining room as we had arrived late for lunch. Even so, we didn't feel rushed or that we were left with little choice. It felt like the catering staff really wanted to make sure that we were well fed. Because on top of the great meals, the snack bar was always well stocked with the usual chips, pizzas, hotdogs, burgers etc, I put on quite a few pounds because I wanted to try a bit of everything!
Ususally on holiday we spend a lot of time exploring the area, however this is the first time we have ever been away and hadly left the hotel. With the fantastic beach club as well as the beach nearby, plus the kids club, bowling alley, arcade, cinema - we didn't need to go anywhere.
The only downside was that we thought we would be able to fully use the spa, but were surprised to find that staying for 7 nights meant we were entitled to only 2 hours use of the spa for the whole week (which included use of the indoor pool). We realised that this is obviously done because the hotel is huge and if all guests could use the spa when they wanted, it would be overrun. Nonetheless, we were a bit disappointed with this. The spa was lovely though.
Despite this, we will definitely be going back.

I have recently spent a week at the Polynesia on a self-catering basis and the week was fine..
I went with friends and we shared a Junior Suite which was lovely; very spacious and clean.
As we arrived in the evening and were self-catering we ate in the restaurant on the first evening. The cost for this was extortionate at 25 euros each (in other places that we went the three of us could all eat for around 35 euros). It was not an enjoyable experience; we unanimously agreed that we would not be repeating it! We went off site during the day and ate at lunchtime (although there was nowhere within walking distance of the hotel where we could do this). We then had a sandwich in our room in the evening. We did some shopping in the supermarket down at the Marina and sometimes used the shop in the hotel. The shop was well stocked and maybe a bit expensive as all convenience stores tend to be.
The queue for the bus into Benalmadena was always long when we went that way so we used taxis. The cost to the marina was between 10 and 12 euros and the taxis were always very clean.
We paid 12 euros for the WiFi and at one stage it wasn't working and when it was the signal was very poor in our room so sometimes we had to go down to the reception area to use it.
The reception desk always appeared to be undermanned, there was usually only one member of staff there. If you book trips through reception make sure you check the paperwork that is issued to you. All three of us agreed that we would book a trip for Friday but realised on the Friday morning while we were waiting for the coach, that the receptionist had booked us on to the Saturday trip. No harm done on this occasion as thankfully we could go on the Saturday but might have been a different story if we were heading home on Saturday.
We all had an enjoyable week and I'd probably go there again!

I do think some of the comments are a bit harsh. We as a family of 14 were frequently at breakfast at different times and plenty of food still available. Food was hit and miss in the sense it depended what time you went whether there was lengthy queues or not and therefore had to wait for fresh food to be put out. All but 3 of us were ill at different stages over the week which ruined it a bit, and reading other reviews since we have been back we were not the only ones. But I don't want to just criticise. Overall cleanliness good and staff were excellent. If they tweaked a few things ie layout of how they serve the food, particularly the area they cook to order and If the entertainment was improved dramatically - did not appreciate watching dancers 4 nights in a row even if one show was cleverly done in the dark, and for us this was the major let down. If this was sorted the overall package could be excellent. We would go back if entertainment was sorted and this seems to be mentioned a lot in the reviews so I hope whoever needs to listen starts taking into account peoples views. Not everyone is wrong. We loved the hotel and both pool areas. Lots of food available and staff excellent.

Just got back from a week here, and would have to say never again. Did the research on the internet and thought the Hotel looked decent, and I have to say first impressions were good. However it quickly went downhill when it came to the restaurant. I was on an all inclusive (which I thought was a good idea because of the hotels remote location), big mistake. The food was shocking - both in quality and in the food safety when it came to how the meat and fresh fish was stored (touching each other). On numerous occasions I took my food back because it was not properly cooked which with chicken and pork is not a good thing. I also noticed after a couple of days that the chef used the same tongs to turn the meet as they did to put the raw meat on the grill (meaning they are transfering the bacteria from the uncooked to the cooked meat) Also the food on the so called hot plate was either cold or on one occasion when I had mussels still frozen. I am aware from talking to other guests that they were affected as I was from the food which spoiled what could have been a fantastic holiday. If you have to go this resort be warned and possibly do self catering so you dont have to use the restaurant.

Room Tip: Most rooms pick up the noise from the train line which is adjacent to the hotel, however the views o...

Dear customer,
First thank you for sent us your opinion about our hotel, and I felt sorry that despite our facilities you liked; was not the case with our all-inclusive service.
I would like to comment that we work under the highest standards and all the food we serve in our show-cooking buffet is cook at the point requested by the client. You always can speak with the cooker directly.
Sorry that your experience was not everything that you expected. If you decide to come back, please contact us directly and we personally show our services.
Yours sincerely,

Having come back yesterday from the Hotel Polynesia and looking through some recent trip reports, it seems like I was staying at a different hotel to the professional complainers and snobs. Yes the location is remote and up a hill, but surely people who write trip reports have looked at the reviews before booking so know this before they go - the hotel will not have moved. That said I would reconfirm that this is not a self catering hotel unless you have a car. On the positive side it is very quiet at night so much easier to sleep rather than in the centre of town. The bus stops at the bottom of the hill and is 1.65 euro per person to go to Benalmadena, Torremelinos and Fuengirola, so pretty cheap and only 10-20 minutes.
On checking in at the hotel there are only ever a maximum of two people working at reception (often only one), which can be annoying if you have a quick question to ask but a coach load of new arrivals are checking in. We got there at 12:30 but our room was not ready, was told to check back at 2.....when a Spanish Hen party of around 50 girls had just arrived! Looking around the hotel, it is very aesthetically pleasing - not many hotels have indoor aviaries, turtle ponds and giant fish ponds with fountains. The outside area is impressive too with the large pool (ice cold in April despite the warm temps), plenty of spare sunbeds at all times even with a full hotel for Easter, however they really need to do something with the mini golf which is in a really poor state.
Once we got to the room, I must say I was impressed - usually Spanish hotels have very small rooms but this was very spacious. We had a junior suite in the Bora Bora section, the large balcony facing the Holiday Palace with the mountains to the right (including the Buddhist temple) and the sea and Fuengirola to the left. It had the sun all afternoon up to about 8pm. Bathroom had 2 sinks, a bath and separate walk in rainfall shower, free amenities even included razor and shaving gel. Also had small kitchenette with kettle and microwave. The beds were firm, so no bad back for the week and the black out curtains were excellent, so we slept very well. The only downside to the room was that it wasn't overly clean, the maid did not mop or sweep the entire week so the floor was dusty.
Now on to the food. I would say it was typical Spanish hotel quality buffet food. Yes we had some undercooked chicken (which I obviously did not eat - it seemed to be one woman who undercooked the meats, the other cooks were fine) but on the whole we found plenty of choice and did not go hungry. It is the first Spanish hotel I have stayed at that does proper bacon rather than that streaky stuff that is all fat, unfortunately they skimp on the ketchup, mayo and other sauces (did have HP sauce though) - I just wish they would all use Heinz. Some nights they had chocolate fountains and pancake/waffle stations so they did vary up the desserts also. We ate breakfast between 9-9:30 and dinner at 8-8:30 and never had an issue with queues or it being too busy and running out of food. The beer is Cruzcampo on all inclusive, and they did have some branded spirits (Smirnoff, J&B, etc.) and the queues were always short, less than 5 minutes at all times.
An issue I did have with the hotel is that the free trips as it was low season finished last week so we were unable to use them, but the two sit down restaurants (Japanese and Polynesian) and disco still weren't open as it was not high season - so we missed out all ways which did not seem fair. Another slight issue was the WIFI, it was very spotty and sometimes did not work for hours at a time - this cost 12 euro for the week.
Overall, this was a good holiday with just a few minor issues that the hotel could do with working on - it certainly is not a one or two star experience as some have remarked, especially considering we only paid £400 each for a week all inclusive over Easter including flights from Manchester.

Just got back from this hotel, overall it is a great hotel. It's massive and rooms are spacious and clean (we stayed in junior suite) for the money we paid it was great, nice large swimming pool, plenty of sun beds however it wasn't peak season!, drinks were great even have Smirnoff vodka on all inclusive. Food was ok, breakfast was good, omelettes made to order, and back bacon cooked to order along with all the usuals on offer, didn't use restaurant at lunch as tended to stay round the pool and just use the snack bar which was exactly the same every day but ok. Evening meals were busy and queues were long which meant some cold food by the time you had got to the end of the selection. I think it would be a nightmare in the summer - far too busy! Would recommend AI though as drinks and food are expensive there otherwise. Location is good, 20 minutes from airport, 10 minutes in a taxi from benalmadena town and marina - well worth a visit its lovely, taxi 10-12 euros. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, 2 adults 1 child, games room good for the evening, pool tables, ten pin bowling etc. Shop on site is useful although more expensive than shops offsite, spa looked lovely although didn't use. Worth a visit, would recommend :-)

We are just finishing a weeks break with our two kids 14 and 11 and have had a fantastic stay. As I am a travel agent so knew what to expect eg area, those moaners on previous reviews obviously booked online without any research. Yes there is a train line beside hotel but very quiet and no bother whatsoever. All staff very friendly and polite. Rooms were spacious and lovely and modern, maid service excellent. Sofa bed was great for two tall boys, comfy and divides into two beds, so no sharing!
I have stayed in lots of good 4 star hotels and this was as good as any of the others. Very good for kids but not too noisy in restaurant etc. a quiet bit can be found away from pool for sun bathing. Beach club was excellent with all inclusive down there too. Again quiet areas possible.
Restaurant food was excellent for a buffet and had a good choice and all nice and hot, ignore the complainers, the hotel really works hard at that.
Entertainment was the usual 4star entertainment!
Yes the hotel is in between benalmadena and fuengirola but not isolated. Excellent regular buses or taxis. The Julia hotel bus means you never have to walk the slight hill.
All in all a fab family hotel, if the kids are happy the adults are to.
Only negative: Please hotel invest in sun beds which raise up back, not easy for reading!
Don't hesitate to book if you want a good family holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view room 243 was sunny afternoon
