“All the staff were fantastic”
Reviewed 16 September 2009

My wife and I have just returned from the Polynesia Hotel. I have got to say 7 days was long enough. The hotel is pretty new and the place was spotless also we thought the food was very good, One problem we found was having to go down the winding road and over the main road to the other complex if you wanted lunch (even though a free bus is provided) as the bits of snacks on offer round by the pool bar were not very good. We have never seen as many pre-school kids (baby's etc) in any hotel we have stayed in previous to this one, so if you don't want to be surrounded by children, don't go to the Polynesia. The hotel is very cut off from any where else unless you travel by the local bus (no 120) so I tended to get quite bored because I enjoy walking and all there is (once you get down the hill from the hotel) is a main road with only one small cafe and a very steep slope down to the small beach. But if you just want to chill out for a week and do nothing but eat and drink that could be the hotel for you. The staff were realy fantastc and pleasant and were always available.
The people who were staying at the hotel were British and plenty of Spanish (all with kids)

Stayed here for a week with my partner. We did read the reviews here before and think they are too harse initially. You do have to remember this was the first season they had opened so initally they had some teething problems. For example, Maria the thompson rep told us they only opened the extra bar and snackbar 3 weeks ago so they are listening to peoples comments on here.

The first thing you will notice when you walk in is the scale of the hotel.

We stayed in a Junior Suite (most of the rooms are this) - was really nice, we had a see view.

The Water park is there is amazing spent most of the time over there, the food there is brilliant. The ate at the wok & polynesia once during our stay, really impressed make sure you book this.

There is a huge selection of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was by far our favourite. We was picky and looked at the board everyday to see what theme night food was tomorrow so we could book the 2 free restratant visits. Tex Mex night was by far the best. I believe they run a 2 week rota system though. You can preorder the day before a breakfast or piknik lunch if you are going out.

To get the beech its about a 10-15 minute walk, or you can get on the local bus for 1euro 35 and go down the road. We stayed on the complex most of the time, it's absolutley massive you could call it a resort. They do plan on building a further 7 hotels there at some stage (theres 3 at the moment).

Hats off to all the staff they were great and all spoke good english.

What the brouchure doesnt tell you:
- All inclusive ends at 12pm on day of checkout. You can get away with this in the beach club, snackbar and the bars but not for main evening meal usually.
- All Inclusive drinks are only until midnight, from midnight till 2 you have to pay for drinks (we just loaded the table before 12 with drinks)
- Only place you can get drinks from in a glass is in the Pineo Bar from 6pm, we just kept ours and then tipped them into it after, so no problem really when your outside
- You can pre order
- Safe costs around 15 euros to rent for 6 days
- Deposits needed for towells, tv remote unless you give them a swipe of your card (which we did).
- Bowling, spa, and mini golf are extra cost.

Things people have said that are not true: Railway line is close however it runs once, twice an hour and you cannot hear it at all.

Just got back this week from the Polynesia.......What a lovely hotel!!!!! Having read the reviews before we went I was a little apprehensive but all my concerns were put at ease as soon as we arrived there. We are a family of 4 with an 8 month old and a 2 year old and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Hotel room was great, towels changed and cleaned everyday, massive bed, irons at reception to use(no charge), hairdryer in bathroom, food fab in restaurant (and i say that as we eat out most weeks in nice places) Tiki bar is snacks ie toasties, fries, burgers etc. We paid extra once there to upgrade to a fantastic sea view, it cost around 160 euros to upgrade for 11 nights.
Make sure if you do have young ones you take swimming nappies as the pool was shut down a couple of times as babies had accidents in the pool .
One thing i will note is that the shop is very expensive for example big bag maltesers 5 pound, walkers crisps 2 pound!!!
The nearest beach is a 10 minute walk, The nearest town is Fuengerola which you can catch the bus for 1.20 euros or taxi for around 10 euros, if your brave enough like us you can stroll back but its a good treck!! Benalmadena costs the same and is worth a trip to the marina to see the lovely yachts. As for around the hotel area there isnt anything near by but there is no need to venture out when you have it all on your door step. Weather was great.
I will be returning there at some point next year. Enjoy your stay.

Stayed at the Polynesia for a week, was worried due to some of the bad reveiws it had received. Hotel is stunning, facilities are very good, food was fine there is plenty choice the staff work hard and you certainly wont starve, rooms are lovely and clean. We had booked a suite but had been put in a junior suite for the first two days of our stay which meant us having to pack all our stuff back up again and move which was a real pain. The only real difference between the two rooms is the suite is slightly bigger and you have a hot tub on your balcony which sounds great but to be honest it is more of a novelty item and we only used it twice and it automatically switches itself on ever hour which is annoying not really worth the extra cost still awaiting an explantion from Thomson to why when we booked nine months in advance, why we were put in the wrong room.

What they don't tell you in the Thomson brochure is that the mini water park is part of the Holiday village complex which the polynesia belongs to along with the Holiday Palace , so you have three big hotels all sharing the same facility. We were lucky and always managed to get a sun lounger but I know that they have big plans to build several more big hotels on this site I think up to about thirteen in total so in a few years it will be really chaotic. Had a lovely holiday and would recommend it just to even view the hotel alone as it is so stunning my biggest gripe is the hotels sun loungers don't adjust and they have static straw parasols which are too low don't know how many times we banged our heads on them when we stood up as they are only about 5ft in height look nice but lethal.

Stayed at the Polynesia in August with my family, after nearly cancelling due to comments made by previous travellers (I am so glad I didn't) What would I have missed out on, this hotel is stunning, there are not enough words to describe its appearance, service, staff, food and drink. The restaurants are amazing didn't even get to eat in two of them so much choice! The main restaurant overlooks the pool and sea, what a view. The beach club amazing and bigger than it looks, the rooms are gorgeous, I could go on and on.
Yes it is out of the way but I knew that when I booked and I personally like that, the security gate at the entrance, makes you feel safe and secure especially with young children about.I would highly recommend the Polynesia and to top it all the weather was 30 plus degrees all the time we were there, who could ask for more!

Well where DO you start!
it was amazing! we stayed for a week and there were 6 people with us 3 adults and 3 teenagers. amd we ALL had an amazing time.
the water park is about 5-10 minutes away on the shuttle bus and its definatley worth going too. the hotel itself has one big pool and allot of activities going on in the day.
one of the adults who we were traveling with in our party miss judged the step going into a whirlpool in the water park. she had a bad sprain on her ankle but the hotel was brilliant they provided her with a weelchair and the hotels doctor visited her 2-3 times to make sure she was ok.
i realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyy would recomend this hotel to ANYONE.
the rooms are brilliant and every room has a seperate bedroom a kitchen a bar table and a sofa and the view we had on our balcony was fantastic.
You just couldnt bare the thought of leaving!

Just returned from a week long stay (23 - 30 Aug) at this fabulous hotel. Like many have said, I had some concerns given previous feedback, but needn't have worried! Check in was quick and smooth - although arriving at midnight may have helped this. Reception staff could have been more proactive as once in room I realised that I needed to go back and pay deposit for TV remote, towels and gain access to the safe. This was a minor niggle and did not in any way detract from the quality of this hotel.

From the first breakfast to the last meal, the kids (aged 11 & 15) and I were spoilt for choice in good quality food - yes, the choice by the pool at lunch is limited, but this is very commonplace with AI hotels, and most people only require a snack after a hearty breakfast!

Pool was closed a couple of times due to children's 'accidents' resulting from lack of nappy - but I for one would rather swim in clean water - wouldn't you? The lifeguards are taking this issue particularly seriously now, and I witnessed a child being removed from the pool due to no nappy - even though the familiy protested that she had been potty trained for a year. Hope this trend ceases at some point or nappies will become compulsory for all ages!!

Entertainment was good - not the most polished of acts, but hey, it's free!

Went on the 'Magic Unlimited' trip and was blown away by the show - a must see for all fans of magic.

The week ended much too quickly and I would have happily stayed another week - maybe next year...
