“Great House!”
Reviewed 2 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We have just returned from 9 nights in the lovely Casa Maria in Benalmadena. We had a great stay and both Mariano and Claire were very helpful in all matters from the moment I enquired to the moment we left and handed the keys back.

The apartment is situated in a big house. It is in an estate called 'Arenal De Golf Fase 1' which is opposite the Xanit hospital. When we arrived it felt as though we were away from everything but we soon found our way. When you enter the house it seems as though the entire house/villa is for you, but that is not the case. You go down stairs in to the basement of the big house and this is where your accomodation is (there is also a life for buggies or those who need it). When you get down to the downstairs part of the house and enter your door there is two floors to your individual apartment. The upstairs part contains the kitchen, living room. patio, 2 bathrooms (1 is in one of the double rooms) and three bedrooms. In the downstairs part of the apartment there is another three bedrooms but no bathroom. It would be a lot better if there were a bathroom down here are those sleeping downstairs (sleeps 7) must go upstairs to use a toilet. It was not a big issue for us though.

Our baby cousin (10 months) slept in the downstairs part and their was a cot, baby changing area, and play area with toys. This was a really nice touch. There was also a baby gate at the top of the stairs for safety.

The house itself is lovely. Everything is very clean and modern. The upper part of the house is nicer due to better light and the availability of air conditioning but it is all very nice. Our sheets/towels were not changed in the 9 days that we arrived but this was not an issue for us as we had a washing machine which we used quite a bit of (it's easy to use). I believe you can pay an extra fee to have the place cleaned but we bought cleaning materials at the start and we kept it clean ourselves.

The kitchen is stocked really well with all types of cooking appliances, really nice plates/cups/cutlery etc and handy things like Lasagne dishes which is great when you have a big group.

The outdoor BBQ area is really something. We spend a good bit of time out there and we had a BBQ one day which was really nice.

The pools are shared pools among all the houses in the complex. We went in mid-August and there was never more than 20 people at the pool. The one thing we did notice is that there were no sun-beds or loungers. It is more residential. You can bring two chairs from the house but with a group of 12 people it would have been nice to have proper sunbeds by the pool, but you can't have everything can you? We made do with out towels and it was fine. The pools are both GORGEOUS and were, for me, the best part of the stay. There is a life-guard there every day up till about 7pm. On one particular day there was a female lifeguard that refused to let us bring our inflatable rings and pool things in to the swimming pool telling us they are forbidden. It is written in the rules on the gate when you enter the pool. This was really annoying but luckily this only happened once and every other lifeguard did not mention it. There are two pools. The closest pool is pretty much opposite the house, a 1 minute walk. The other pool is about a 3 minute walk and is down hill but is really lovely. We went to both! The second pool looks exactly like it does in the picture advertised, really gorgeous! The water was just perfect and there are toilets down there too.

There is no pool bar or local shop you can buy a drink or ice-cream while by the pool (the closest shop is a garage about 15 minutes walk away, if you cut through the hospital).

For shopping we always got a taxi because the supermarket was 20 minutes walk away and when shopping for 12 people it was very necessary. I recommend a taxi unless you are just going for 2/3 items. The supermarket was great and had everything we needed.

In terms of beach, restaurants, shops and nightlife you are away from it all. It requires a taxi but it only costs about €8 to get to all of these places. With 12 people these taxis did add up though. There are a few different places to go to. The nicest place is 'the marina'. It has lovely views, shops, restaurants, bars and is a real 'family' place. When you get to the marina there are steps you can go up which lead you to more restaurants (almost above the shops) and this is where the best restauarants are. I recommend mama nachos, it is a great restaurant!

We didn't go to the beach but again it was a €9 taxi and the area was nice with a McDonalds and more restaurants and bars.

All in all it was a fantastic week and the apartment itself is lovely as was the pool and the weather!!

I would highly recommend it to a family with young kids but perhaps teenagers (we had three) would prefer to be closer to the buzz of the town and people their own age.

Great place and we had a ball! Thanks guys :)

Thanks for the feedback!!

There are different amenities within 300-800m from the property: golf course, supermarket, restaurants, bars and shops.

Taxis are very cheap: 6-7 euro to the city centre/beach for 4 persons(1.5 euro-2.00 each) and there is also a bus stop in front of the property
