“good apartment, few niggles”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

Recently returned from a week in Benalmadena staying at the Kingfisher club apartments. Taxi fare from the airport is €25 and takes 10-15 mins. The Kingfisher club is in fact part of a much larger complex called Benal Beach, so there is no signage as such for Kingfisher club. Booked through Booking.com paying €400 for 1 week for a 1 bedroom apartment. Check in was swift and found our apartment to be ready quite early which was handy as we had our baby with us. Apartment was quiet large 627, spacious and very clean on arrival. Separate bedroom was spacious with a double bed and lots of storage space for luggage and clothing. A travel cot was there as requested which cost €12.50 to rent, despite having a wobbly leg I still kept it as bed was not roomy enough for baby too.
The veranda was very large with 2 sets of tables and chairs with a view of the sea. There were sun loungers there but they were chained to the wall requiring payment to use. Kitchen was small but well equipped with cooking utensils and all supplies needed included cleaning equipment and ironing. Apart was quiet at night which was a relief with the baby.
The pool area is large with many different pools on levels and slides, none of which appeared to be in use. We were using sun loungers when a staff member requested payment of €8 per chair, we immediately got off them as we thought it was very cheeky to ask for payment of loungers that are permanent fixtures on the property. Many others obviously felt the same way as they had towels on the grass. The other thing was that there were cigarette butts in the grass and should have been cleaned up especially with young children around.
Overall the property was good and location was close to a lovely park, selwo Dolphin aquarium, the beach and main boardwalk and supermarkets. The only issue we had was the extra charges which we deemed greedy as there is no need to charge this, and €4 an hour for internet usage is disgraceful in this day and age.

Room Tip: Chose a 1 bed apartment for extra space and large veranda

just back from benalmadena after spending 11 nites there. stayed for 7nites in sunset beach (excellent hotel) and 4 nites in kingfisher club. when checkin in was told room be ready for 3 o clock . came back at 3 and got keys but on entering the room the smell of some kind of spray was over powering cud bearly breed wit it. tought it was just polish. so then we noticed a massive can of bug spray under the sink. so yes we were concerned . so went out for dinner with the misses and came home that nite and low and behold we were greeted wit a load of cockroches on the counter and sink. so obviously the misses freaked out. would nt sleep in the nites she just sat up and woke me everytime to kill one. this happened for the 4 nites. the reason i booked it was it had a few slides at the pool and a swim up bar. slides were closed off and the swim up bar never opened at all. and then wen u go to the pool they charge you to lie on a sunbed which i ve never seen on any holiday where the hotel charge u for a sunbed by the pool. 3euro a bed. no problem with staff in general the room were clean but they seriously need to sort out there bug control in stead of just giving a big spray can with every room.

We arrived at the kingfisher club on Friday 14 / 6 / 13 and were greeted by very friendly and
helpful staff. We were very impressed with our air conditioned apartment which was well
equipped and very clean. The beds were comfortable and the shower was hot and powerful.
We had exchanged via DIAL AN EXCHANGE ,and were impressed with the Email booking,
the advice on taxi's and the communication from kingfisher club. We would go back again
anytime. [ one little tip ---- take a salt & pepper cruet with you for your cooked breakfast.]
THANK YOU KINGFISHER CLUB.

Room Tip: WE HAD A SEA VIEW IN OUR ROOM 904 you would have to ask when booking but it was quiet, comfortable...

We were allocated an apartment through Club La Costa - incidentally our last ever trip with them as we are giving up our timeshare this year.

The only good thing Kingfisher has going for it is it's great location close to Paloma Park and the beach.

The apartment itself is extremely basic with minimal amenities. The balcony awning had fallen off and never been replaced, there were not enough pots and pans or crockery in the kitchen, the ironing board was on its last legs, there was no DVD player, there were not enough railings in the bathroom to hang clothes up when having a bath or shower ... the list goes on.

The Club La Costa and in particular a lady called Edith were fantastic and did what they could to help out. We did enjoy our holiday but would have enjoyed it that much more if the accomodation was better.

Room Tip: Request a top floor room overlooking the beach.

This was an Intervals International exchange. The accommodations were minimal, our 1 bedroom had 2 narrow beds more like cots that were barely comfortable, but photos we saw online showed a full sized bed. There were extra charges everywhere. All timeshare owners know about European electric charges. The deck chairs were chained. There was a charge for the safe in the room. We had to leave a deposit for a second key. The indoor pool was considered part of the health club and there was a charge of 15 Euros a day.A lthough we were told we could use WIFI, no one knew what the password was. To his credit though, the game room bartender did get it for us. TV had reruns such as old BBC, Miami Vice episodes. Nothing current. I mention TV because there was nothing to do.
The staff was really wonderful and helpful. We hopefully requested a wake-up call without a phone in the room, but our doorbell rang on the dot.
To reach the beach from the hotel you had to go out the front, down the hill to the road, around the corner. As to the area, the smell on the beach was not from seaweed it was from fried takeout. The beach was unappealing. It was very hilly and the attractions needed car or long bus rides. we took a tour of touristy Mijas, which was pretty and by luck stopped for pizza at a restaurant owned by Italian expats, the pizza was better than you would get in Washington DC (our home) and fresh gelato. Otherwise it was tourist menus all the way.
Full disclosure, I got sick on the trip and wound up in bed for 3 days, defintiely clouded my attitude, but tried to give a realistic appraisal of the Kingfisher Club.
