“Good quality, value for money, near the beach”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2012

We stayed here August 2012 for 7 nights. 2 Adults.
We were originally looking for room only in the Benalmadena area but this hotel is only a few pounds more for full board so opted to try that.
The rooms have been modernised recently and are basic but very comfortable with excellent aircon. Bathroom nice with bath with shower, toilet and bidet. Room cleaned very day, towels and bed linen changed every 3 days.
Pool view room on 6th floor with great see view and sun all day.
Would avoid the rooms the other side of the hotel - especially anything lower than the 4th floor since you are overlooking a rather dingy back street.
The hotel inside is pretty modern which is nice - it is classed as 2 star but is more like 3 star.
The food in the hotel was a basic buffet, with limited choice and a canteen feel. Then again this is all you can expect for a 2 star. We only went there for one evening meal and one breakfast and unfortunately were not impressed. So we had breakfast and evening meals at one of the many good value for money restaurants near the hotel (breakfast 4 euro each and 12.50 euro each for 3 courses !).
You pay a deposit for the safe and the aircon (plus 2 euro per day for the aircon - which you definitely need !).
The hotel is predominantly Spanish, as is the entertainment, so is definitely not for British families.
British adults looking for a convenient base is fine.
The hotel has a kids pool and a main pool. Neither are that big, nor the hotel grounds.
The sun beds are never full but a lot of them need chucking out since they are worn out and appear to have been buckled by an elephant.

The main drawback is that the hotel entrance is on a small, quiet dark road behind a few restaurants - one a McDonalds which means the hotel entrance is on a poorly lit road directly opposite the rear of those restaurant's bins . So the hotel doesn't have a grand entrance and can be a bit scary place to be after 12 at night. So would strongly suggest you always make sure you don't come back to the hotel after midnight on your own, definitely only when there are 2 or more of you.

Of course, the upside is that the hotel is very near the Playa de BilBil beach (its across the road) and the hotel is near lots of restaurants and bars. A very short walk away is the beach promenade with even more bars and restaurants.
You can walk on this promenade to the Benalmadena Marina which has a lot more bars and restaurants in around 30 minutes.

The area is not suited to those looking for a lively nightlife but is good for those looking for a family resort with a nearby beach and a reasonable amount of bars and restaurants.
However, we went to the 24 hour square on the main Torremolinos to Benalmadena road one night which is a collection of very lively pubs, nightclubs and strip joints for those looking for a clubbing type experience. It takes about 30 minutes to walk there from the Balmoral or 5 minute bus trip for 1 euro 40 cents, taxi is about 6 euros.

Another option is the Benamadena marina which is a mixture of higher quality restaurants and bars and shops beside a marina. As I said before you can walk to this along the busy beach promenade from the Balmoral in around 30 minutes - however I wouldn't walk this way after 1am when it becomes deserted.

We went for a trip to Benalmadena pueblo which is a traditional town in the mountains which also has a Buddhist temple nearby. 3 euros on the bus next to the hotel takes about 20 minutes. Lovely little streets and a square to sit and have lunch while watching the world go by.

If you do stay in the hotel then you will feel a bit like you are invading a Spanish holiday.
The hotel entertainment at night is Spanish so do not expect evening entertainment.

The bars in front of the hotel overlooking the beach charge 1.50 euro for a pint of lager, the hotel pool bar charged 3 euros - so you know where to go for a beer !
We asked to keep our room until 5pm and this cost 30 euro which was convenient,
We just got Taxi transfers to/from airport - 25 euro each way. Far better than bus transfers. There is a taxi rank around the corner from the hotel.

All in all had a good value week's holiday for 2 adults.
Sure there are better more expensive hotels in the area but if you are looking for a good value base and don't want a hotel based holiday and want to go out in the evening and eat out then you will have a good time.

We stayed there this year for the third time. It is listed as 2 star, don't know why? We love this place, it is very reasonably priced, spotlessly clean, very peaceful, no rush for sunbeds , loads always available, perfect for couples, overlooking the beach and some fab restaurants , almost entirely adult guests on all our trips, excellent food but can be busy at breakfast time if you are late down,Mike.

I stayed in a twin room last September with a friend, apart from a leaky a/c unit which soaked the corner of my bed and my mates snoring, everything was great, especially Terressa on reception, I think I'm in love.......X
I also stayed on my own for one week half board last March 17th. for Paddy's day, and a bonus for the week was the weekend after Paddys day there was a fresh and local fish food fair at the marina, absolutly brilliant, I'm definately booking again this next year for Paddys Day
The food in the hotel was very good, during late September the Spanish penshioners have a fortnights paid holiday, and I think most of them descend on The Balmoral. They are very nice people as long as you reciprocate their Hello's, Ola's etc. If you make out that your speaking their language they love you for it, and believe you me it's bloody hard for a Scouser to speak any language without a scouse twang...... :-) The Hotel is very clean, views from the balcony's excellent. Purchase your water from the local supermarket which is just around the corner a lot cheaper than the hotel. But if your not bothered about the costs then Hey Ho :-)
One of the local bars called Coco's sports bar have great Karaoke nights, and they have small flat screen tv's on most tables, even outside. The bar staff are excellent forever working hard....
All in all I've had two great times there at Belamadena and the Balmoral Hotel. A big thumbs up from me as I will be booking again for late September 2012 and also Paddys Day 2013.

Room Tip: I never used the fitness centre, I don't even know if they had one, and I never used the room se...

me and hubby got back yesterday from a fab week at this hotel.Rooms spotless, maid service excellent, food great, the only downside for me hubby wasnt bothered, is the sunbeds need replacing, very shabby and they dont move to any other position other than flat.Yes there are a lot of spanish people at this hotel but there was a lot of english too.Location wise was good it sits behind Macdonalds, with plenty of bars and restaurants, a 2 minute walk to the beach. Cant comment on the entertainment as we went out every night. We have been coming to Benelmadena for 11 years now and we always go to Mr Pickwicks which is a family friendly bar that does quizes, bingo and games. Its downhill from the Bali Hotel but it is a 15 minute walk foom the balmoral.Just want to say hi to Margaret and John Pickard fom Killingworth in newcastle really enjoyed your company All in all a really good holiday would definatley go back to the Balmoral

Room Tip: try and get a high floor views of the sea are amazing

My friend and I stayed in Hotel Balmoral in June. There was a mix up with our booking when we arrived, but Teresa was absolutely fantastic in getting us sorted. The rooms are excellently laid out. We stayed in a nearby 4 star hotel last year where the rooms were of a lower standard! Lovely balcony with sea views overlooking the beautiful pool (filled with sea water!) also. All rooms have AC and there is a safe in the room which you rent. There are only two small lifts in the hotel, so you may have to wait for lift service, but that's just a small thing. It has excellent access to the beach, restaurants, shops and bars. We had half board in the hotel. The food is fine and you won't be hungry. We opted to eat out on two occasions for a change. Overall, a great hotel, spotlessly clean, beautiful pool area. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the highest floors are probably quieter.

Stayed here with our two daughters, aged 16 and 24 in early June. Was pleased with the hotel on arriving and very pleased with the room which, although not massive, had everything you needed but a fridge (the ONLY downside). Big wardrobe and mirrors. Beds hard but slept ok on them .We asked for extra pillows and slept very comfortably. Lovely view from balcony on 4th floor, of the sea, the pool AND the mountains. The tv was ok. just SKY NEWS in English but good for us to watch the jubilee celebrations back home. Air conditioning was ok. Don't forget to ask at reception for the remote control for the air-con - 20 euros deposit. The room safe was 10 euros deposit and 2 euros a day. The hotel was spotless. Maids cleaned room and changed towels every day and never bothered us once. Just came in when we were out. The Hotel, as reports say, is full of spanish pensioners and what a racket at meal times. We found this to be quite endearing and apart from the odd few, they were polite, friendly and certainly enjoying themselves. We must say we preferred this to stag and hen parties which seemed to flood into the resort at the weekend. The food was lovely. Not a great deal of choice but always something for everyone and our girls liked it, and they're really particular. Being young they never got up for breakfast and we were really impressed that the staff let them have a lunch instead, as well as their evening meal.! Certainly a cheap holiday for us.The pool was lovely and the pool bar opened halfway through our holiday.,There are two lifts that are small but adequate . The only thing I know about the entertainment was that the girls went up to the entertainment room expecting a disco and came back down with shouts of L.O.L as there were Spanish pensioners ballroom dancing. There was a free parrot show, which was good. Plenty of sunbeds, lovely garden area to lay in, plenty of hot water for showers The resort was quiet to start with but got busier at weekend. The hotel is right next to McDonalds and directly opposite the lovely beach. Lots of bars and restaurants on the way along the promenade to the beautiful marina. Bit of a walk and lots of street traders and touters but such a lovely walk, Very safe relaxed atmosphere. SO if you prefer the incomprehendible rabble of Spanish o.a.p's to the hen and stag parties and a bit more noise in a morning than the early hours this hotel will be perfect for you. It was for us. Absolutely loved it and would go back anytime.
