“five star?”
Reviewed 5 May 2010

On arrival, the staff were uninformative and only provided information, when questioned. Their manner was inpolite and unfriendly some were even incapable of smiling (particularly during breakfast).
The Breakfast buffet lacked freshness and the five star standards were questionnable. As the hotel was so quiet we expected more from the staff as they were hardly rushed off of their feet, instead we felt like a burden to them.
I was also unimpressed with the barmans inability to make cocktails and was shocked at the lack of ingredients available behind the bar.
This does not set a good standard for the beginning of the season, however the resort is beautiful and I highly recommend visiting the marina.

The Torrequebrada was the first 5 Star Hotel in the area, but that was a long time ago.
Check-in within the large Lobby was quick and efficient. Our Executive suite was situated on the 5th Floor comprising of a Lobby with connecting doors to a large bedroom with double bed, large bathroom with separate WC / Bidet and large sitting room. We had a spectacular view of the Ocean from our large balcony which had a plastic table and 2 chairs.
On our 2nd night the high winds which howled along the balcony as well as other loud noises which could not be explained keep us awake all night. The Management confirmed the problems and offered us the choice of staying in our suite and the Hotel would try and remedy the strange noises or we could move to another suite on the 1st floor. We chose the 2nd option.
The 2nd suite was identical to the first. Unfortunately maintenance had to be called 3 times to fix the toilet.
The staff were very apologetic for all the problems that we had. Later we received a letter from the Duty-Manager offering us an evening meal including beverages for the problems caused.
Breakfast was good but a greater variety of restaurants for evening Meals should have been on offer. We arrived late one evening at 23:10 and found that the Cafe Royal restaurant closed at 23:00, the Chinese restaurant was completely closed (it was never open for our entire stay) and the only possibility that was open was in the Casino where our 16 year old daughter could not go. We tried room service but no hot food was available.
The best highlight was the Flamenco floor show.....fantastic lead dancer.
Again, we may just of had one of those trips where nothing really clicked.
The staff really did try their hardest but the Hotel needs refurbishing or just down grading to a 4 Star.

After reading some very mixed reviews we were a little worried about what to expect at this hotel, however we need not have been. The hotel reception is very grand, and although the rooms are perhaps not so grand and could do with a bit of updating, they are still very nice and clean. When arriving at the hotel we were shown to our room which was nice and had a side view of the sea but mostly a view of the car park, we were a little dissapointed as we had requested a sea view, however we asked if any other rooms were available and we were immediatley upgraded, so if you're not happy they will try to get you something better if it's available. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the buffets in the morning and evening are fantastic...definitley worth getting up for breakfast! The pool is a good size and was usually quiet with a view of the sea. I would definitley recommend this hotel.

We have just returned from three nights here having chosen the hotel as it was the only 5* in Benalmadena. We decided to bear the reviews in mind as there simply wasnt anywere else to stay.

Firstly - i would agree with what the other reviewers have said. The hotel is struggling to be a 5* - it does look tired and dated in places. Particularly the area around the indoor pool and lower ground public areas. The hotel's location is the best feature as it has uninterrupted views of the sea and is front line.

The positives - we did get excellent rates on an executive suite (i will come back to that). We did also get good service thoughout our stay from the porters, to restaurant staff and room service. All were very courteous and service was quick and efficient. We were two of maybe 20 guests staying as it was out of season and quiet so it is hoped they would cope as well during busier times. Only the breakfast restaurant (Pavillion) was open in the daytime - which served a good range of choices in pleasant surroundings over looking the pool and the sea and the Cafe Royal Restaurant in the evenings. This was more 'fine dining' and very small but the food was excellent and well priced, with attentive service. (115euros for three people -including wine). Our executive suite was one of the biggest rooms (the Burj al Arab being the largest) we have stayed in. (Room 910) With an enormous lounge/dining area, a huge bedroom - superking bed - good to high quality sheets and bedding and turndown service. A bathroom with jacuzzi, TV in each room and a very large balcony facing south. (bit iffy if you dont like heights 9 floors up) but still well worth it. The room had recently been given new furniture and a spruce up and it was pleasant althought as with the rest of the hotel the structure was dated.

The negatives - The place is huge - it's a long walk to anywhere. It does need some TLC but at the current time the standard was acceptable. There is a casino attached and at the weekend the coach loads arrived. The carpark just could not cope. (there is a charge for this 10 Euros per day) but they didnt charge us during our stay. The pool area outside is very small and I would think gets very overcrowded when the hotel is busy. Internet access does not work. They charge for this also and I would consider myself to be IT saavy but still couldnt access the wireless via Iphone or PC.

All in all a good trip, pleasant place to stay - would we go back? Yes we would, as it was a 5* hotel - yes there are better hotels but this was a surprising find and suited our purpose well.

Having looked into a hotel as a Anniversary treat which had spa & pool facilities I went ahead and booked the this 5 star property as the website & Info deemed it to be what we were looking for, Unfortunately on arrival dealing with an unhelpful receptionist who did seem to be put out as we had disturbed his breakfast & newspaper reading eventually checked us into room 924 great views but I have to say five stars not,
Mould in bathroom, cigarette burns everywhere, dirty filty carpets & paint peeling to make matters worse the spa was closed for refurb and after looking at the pool decided against it as heath & safety issues were apparent.
As we were only staying one night thank god we made the most of a bad experience,
how on gods earth this property got 5 stars is beyond belief.
Short of a major refurb & some tender loving care this could be a great hotel,
stay clear & book something else.

First of all you need a car, Taxis are very expensive, the hotel is very nice downstairs, but it lets itself down as you go upstairs, this hotel is in need of refurbishment in the bedrooms, when we stayed here we were the ONLY guests, bit spooky. Staff are very friendly, food is fine, hotel location is nice if you want to stay in the hotel grounds.

We would not use this hotel again, but we are fussy, so if the price is OK for you, then I'm sure you can put up with the rooms, but look at the room first, as we were the only people in the hotel, where do you think they put us?????? Overlooking the CAR PARK!!!! so we change to a room overlooking the sea.

We booked this hotel because we were going to see a show there. This was cancelled during the week before (Nothing to do with the hotel) as we had paid for flights etc we thought we would go anyway. We arrived in a taxi (which we had pre booked and paid for with Economy transfers, good service) usually at a 5* hotel you would expect a porter to come out and meet you with a trolley but no sign of life here! We made our way into the reception area which seemed gloomy after the bright sun outside so we could not see where anything was. Eventually we spotted a lone receptionist chatting to the porter with their backs to us, sure they must have heard us come in!. We were pleased our rooms,( there were 3 of us) so two rooms were both ready even though only mid day and that as requested they were close together so that was a good start. Once our eyes adjusted we noticed the area was quite smart with lots of sofa's and water feature. At last the porter took our cases on his trolley and took us quite a walk to the lifts the hotel was quite deserted everywhere but as it was early October we didn't take much notice of that. On arriving at our room we found it to be a twin and had specifically asked for a double. It was dealt with well, the porter rang reception immediately and asked me to speak to the receptionist. I expalined about the beds. She asked if we would like to move just along the corrider to 528 (we were in 508) so not far. The porter took us there straight away and let us in with his pass key. He then took our old room keys and papers and had them changed at reception and brought back. We thought this was good service as many hotels we have stayed at you would have been left to go down and sort it yourself. In that way they scored a hit with us. The room was quite large and very clean with a decent size baclcony part road view but also part sea so quite nice. Bathroom also well cleaned with toilet and bidet behind glass sliding door for little privacy which we liked. The towels were white but for a 5* were old and scratchy nothing thick or fluffy about them, sort of scratched you dry.! The air con was fairly good and for a change reasonably quiet when running. We did not touch the mini bar but the prices were not too bad as mini bars go. There was no kettle or tea stuff. You are given a laminated card for a pool towel at the hut by the pool you can change your towel for a dry one as many times as you want but only get 1 at a time so take a few of your own as the one does not cover more than half the sunbed and its not very nice stuff to lay on. You have to guard this card with your life, if you do not hand it in when you leave they charge 15 euros!! Pools were lovely and clean. 2 with a sort of flowing water feature seperating them and also an indoor pool that had the side all open so sort of outdoor but with a roof!!! Cafe bit limited for snacks but not bad. Service very slow they do not seem to have many staff so they all seem to do everything. Beds were very comfy and sleep was good. Breakfast room is big, well laid out with the usual sort of delights but again we thought more 3-4 * for the selection and quality of the food. Clean though and tables relaid quickly so you could sit where you wanted rather than looking about for a clean table. There is a casino at the hotel which has very pretty entrance at night, well lit. Quite a walk from the hotel down a fairly steep curving road to get to the prom which is on different levels. We had not been to this area before and were surprised how spread out and hilly it was. There seems a fairly good bus service although as only here for 2 nights we did not go anywhere on the bus. We did do the walk to the Marina which is quite a long way but is very nice when you get there. A little road train runs from there which we got on 4euros for a return trip about 45 mins so quite cheap. there is also a red double deck tour bus of the hop on hop off variety which we would have used if more time. Back to the hotel, it is not a bad hotel and has many good features but it rather badly needs refurbishing in the rooms, especially the furniture which is certainly not 5*. if this was done it could be a very nice place to stay . Otherwise think of it as a good 3-4 star and you won't be dissapointed. Hope this is helpful to you.
