Reviewed 29 July 2014

I have recently stayed at this hotel and found some good and some bad points. Overall the hotel is quite pleasant and comfortable. The communal areas and rooms are cleaned very well indeed.

The bar and cleaning staff are very polite and helpful. Not one of the staff here understand that when you say coffee with cold milk you do not want hot milk. I even ordered cortarda grande con frio leche they still gave me hot milk.
B
each and pool right in front of the hotel, excellent access.

Noise – no matter which room you have you cannot escape the noise from the entertainment and bar. I was on the 10th floor and it even kept me up. There are only 11 floors, and the bar/entertainment is on the ground floor

Restaurant – there was plenty of choices each day, anyone can find something they like no matter how fussy they are. The restaurant staff were all very helpful and nice to talk to. The Chef was very responsive to any request put before her. Well done to this area.

Television – the brochure advertised full satellite television. Well it is if you are not English (5 German, 5 Spanish, 5 French channels) and only 1 English Channel which was BBC world news just the same thing repeated every 15 minutes. Now I cannot sleep without a television on so you can imagine how tired I am now. I did speak to reception and the lady just shrugged and said go back to your normal hotel.

Gymnasium – around 12 machines with only 3 in working order. Not very good at all. There was rubbish on the floor when I arrived and the same rubbish there 10 days later when I left. They do not clean the gym.

My air conditioning broke down on my first day and that was fixed within hours of me reporting it.

Electricity to my room went altogether on day 2. The maintenance man told me it was my iron that caused it but considering I had not yet used it and it was not plugged in I ignored him.
The bar and entertainment is very good and well run, definitely enjoyable for those with children or do not wish to go out.

Now I have said before that the rating of a hotel is not the number of services they provide but the quality of each service. Personally I would give this a 2 to 3 star rating but definitely not 4 star. I will never go there again.

Although the worst part of my stay is the lack of empathy provided by the reception staff, I must say that it is not all of them just a few of them.

Room Tip: Take earlugs reallt good ones

Just returned from a girlie long weekend at Playabonita. Lovely hotel, beautiful cliff top spot right on the sea...a very clean, well organised hotel, with friendly staff. Food was great and service in restaurant super. Room was very nice, not a lot of room, but it had massive beds and a great bathroom. Lots of storage space, air con and a fan, a fridge and a lovely sea view from the balcony.

If I had to be picky... Our room (309) was right over the beach bar where the evening entertainment is held. It was very noisy on the balcony until late...we didn't mind for 2 nights, but think it might have got a bit much for a longer stay. All inclusive didn't include beach towel..10 euro deposit (fair enough) but a euro each day to change towel ...not a lot, but why? The pool was overcrowded with sun beds and families with small children, so we chose to go to the beach. Fabulous sun loungers with THE most comfy mattresses, but a charge of €4.50 per day (concession of €1 Mon-Fri) was again fine for three days, but would have added up over a longer stay. Beware also of the locals, who came and plonked what looked like the entire contents of their conservatory under a gazebo right in front of our €4.50 a day sun bed!! We counted 7 on our little beach yesterday!

Overall, we loved it and I would definitely recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher up and at either end of the hotel rather than in the middle (rooms ending in 5...

Just returned from a weeks stay with a family of four (costing £2,500 for all inclusive)..
We have been to many resorts in Spain & are telling 'our experience'.
Africa on Reception was very nice, welcoming! As were a few restaurant staff/cleaners & beach club staff.
In our opinion the hotel is nice & the views were stunning. But I wouldn't class it as a 4*..

(1)The food was variable but at times the restaurant was very busy, with you finding yourself apologising for other people bumping into you! They could do with a children's section of food.
(2) Free Wi-Fi (1 hour a day!)
(3) Lifts are ridiculously slow & only hold 6 people.
(4) Virtually no English speaking people, so felt we might as well have been at a private villa, because we'd no conversation with anyone else.
(5) The entertainment was totally geared for the Spanish, wasn't very professional..Couldn't understand.
(6) The All Inclusive wasn't explained to us at all. We ordered a bottle of wine on our 1st night & were given a bill. They forgot to say 'some' wines were on the all inclusive, which WE discovered on day 5!
(7) They don't promote on all inclusive, the cocktail of the day.
(8) You have to bus or taxi it as your out of the resort.. (The bus costs €1.55) You think you'd want to walk into Benalmadena, but in the intense heat it's too far..
(9) Communication barriers/difficulty understanding English.
(10) 18€ (unless you've a hotel voucher for 1€ off each) for a padded beach chair (so 14€ a day)..
To sum up our family holiday we always ask.. Would I go back?..... we feel we wouldn't go back but do experience it for yourselves..

Room Tip: Reception on a Level 8 Restaurant on level 7 To get to pool/beach, get the lift to level 1 & o...

Just stayed at the hotel for two nights, first night, food was excellent, we had been very wary reading the reviews on here. Second night the food was very poor, come to the conclusion that it is very inconsistent. The hotel is built into the side of a cliff so the swimming pool is at the bottom and past the beach, not very good for families with young children, pool also very small for the size of the hotel. The views from our room were amazing, simply beautiful, waking up to them in the morning was lovely. Another issue with this hotel, is if you are staying there on an all inc basis, you have to pay for cocktails, also if you are travelling by car, the charges are 12.50 euros per day which is high and you have no choice as there is not enough parking nearby.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. Please Know that our goal is that you spend the best days of your holiday with us and this is what we are working and trying to improve every day.
Just tell that to the cocktail only a small fee is paid.
Concerning the parking is private and quite economical.

Booked 5 nights via Teletext, 20 - 26th June, so, was a little nervous about the whole thing beforehand - especially the amazing price (£260 each B & B, incl flights & transfers/hold baggage). The hotel is at the extreme western side of Benalmedena, infact a few miles outside, so quieter than the Centre of what is a very busy resort. Buses stop just outside, taxis are plentiful (& cheapish) so easy to get there - or further afield, like Torremolinos, Fuengirola etc.

We found the room excellent, large bathroom, with TV speakers (World Cup was on!) clean great balcony and sea view - right next to the beach. The beds were two doubles pushed together - so loads of room! Great hearing the sea lapping outside -also room was nice and cool at night (it was very hot outside!). One minor (really small) negative was that we were on the 3rd floor, so only 3 floors above the entertainment area, which on one night had really loud Karaoke on until 1am, so kept us awake that one night - other nights we were either out late or the disco/singing etc finished by midnight.

The Breakfast was legendary - looked overwhelming on the first morning, but choice was huge, from bacon, eggs & omelettes all the cooked stuff (fresh) to fruit, bread, cold meat, cereal, croissants - you could have champagne, almost anything really!!. By the way the orange juice was superb (no idea what the negative comments are about! Other food there seemed good - we ate out most of the time, but even the bar snacks, eg chicken/burger/steak & salad was good and cheap!

The hotel (late June 2014) had mainly Spanish tourists, Russians, Dutch, german - and a handful of English - service always good, but try a few words of Spanish, give some tips and it works miracles! The only rudeness we witnessed, was , I'm afraid British Tourists, being unreasonable (we just pretended we weren't Brits).

Didn't use the pool - beach is lovely - bottom floor of hotel - access gate and you are on the beach! Easy to walk to other beaches either towards Benalmedena & Torremolinas or the other way. We found places to eat towards Benal and just down a slope east of the hotel. Worth going to Benalmadena Port on the 120 bus, about 3 Euros for 2 people! Go to the Wok Chinese place - 12.95 for a buffet (all cooked there and then), also Torremolinas is worth a walk around, Fuengirola - but they are busy, lots of shops and restaurants/bars.

Gibraltar is worth a trip - about 1 hr 20 mins by car (we hired one), but you can go on a trip for about 20 Euros. Lots of places to see, really relaxing (if you want) or busy nightlife plus loads of beaches. Prices were very reasonable, often a meal for two would be 25 Euros for 2 courses and a drink or two - some offered a 3 course meal for only 10 Euros, but loads of places to choose from - a long walk to Benal (a mile or two) but easy by Bus/taxi 10 mins.

Overall can't fault the Playa Bonita - odd very little signs of needing a little TLC, but honestly very good indeed - will go back, felt so chilled and relaxed after our 5 days. I travel a lot in my job, including overseas and I really could not fault anything - The hotel will even let you use a courtesy room to have a shower when you have a late checkout, so you could have a full last day and freshen up before leaving for home. Thanks to the staff for a great stay!!

Room Tip: Ideally try and get a floor from 6 upwards, to avoid noise from the entertainment - but this only an...
