My Wife and I have just returned from a fortnight’s holiday at the Siroco Hotel - half board.
The hotel is a little rundown in parts but the service was first class, reception was friendly, and the cleaning ladies were there every day with clean linen and made the beds and cleaned the floors every day. The food was good with plenty of variety both at breakfast and dinner, although the vegetables were often cold and not cooked properly but there is plenty of salad and cold meats to be had.
All in all, I think we got a very good holiday for the money we paid, it’s a three star hotel and that’s what we got, if you are looking for something better then you’ll have to pay for it.

In summary we felt we got what we paid for. This is classed as a 3 star hotel and that's what it was. Quite difficult for us to judge in a way as we've only stayed in 4 & 5 star hotels in the last few years. We booked this only 36 hours before travelling and were quite satisfied with most aspects of the hotel.
We stayed on a B & B basis and we weren't too impressed with the breakfasts - eggs swimming in fat etc. But there was a good selection of breads and croissants. The dining room was very busy and a couple of times we struggled to find a table.
The hotel has pleasant gardens and a lovely pool area with views to the sea and plenty of sunbeds. I was amused to see a large sign in the gardens informing guests that the hotel had won 1st prize in the Benalmadena gardens competition - in 1971!
We had two relatively small complaints. We got stuck in the lift twice (different lift each time). Luckily it was only for a couple of minutes but a little unnerving especially as the lifts were very small. After the second occasion we didn't use the lifts again so the walks up to the 4th floor helped keep us fit!
Beside the terrace is a large, comfortably furnished conservatory - on the door a notice saying 'reserved for Saga members'. When we pay for a hotel's facilities we expect to be able to use them all. As the weather was wonderful while we were there, we wouldn't have used the conservatory area so didn't make an issue of it.
I would recommend this hotel to some friends, depending on their requirements.
We chose it because we know the area well and were meeting up with a couple of friends who live nearby.

We first stayed here 3 years ago - regret returning. We were lucky to ahve paid extra for a superior room. These rooms are in a seperate block overlooking garderns away from reception, car park bars etc.The room itself was excellent, roomy and clean.
The rest of the hotel had that run down feel, holes in carpets and an 80,s feel.
The food which we recalled as very good was very average, quality well down with little taste and wine prices up.The staff struggled to cope with the numbers of guests, particularlya at weekends.

Date; 31st Oct – 7th Nov 2009.

We left on time with a first choice flight from Gatwick airport, it was a 2.30hrs flight to Malaga airport, a very smooth flight with good service throughout. When we collected our cases at Malaga Spain, we were greeted by a first choice rep, who directed us to our coach. The rep person then later entered our coach to count up the passengers, the rep’ might have thought he was funny to some, but was a bit rude when checking some of our fellow
Passengers on the coach After about 45mins transfer, we then got to our resort.

The Best Hotel Siroco; We checked into hotel and was given our room ( Room No. 109 ), with three single beds, with great views of the pool and blue sea. The room was clean, with a bath and basic shower, also just enough storage for three people to store holiday clothes etc. The decor is a little bit tired around the hotel, but is very clean and tidy. There is a very small safe fitted onto the wall, only enough room for monies and passport etc.
The safe to rent for a week cost 19 eruo, although you get back 5 euros when you provide your receipt at the end of your stay, so keep it in the safe.
The restaurant has a good selection of food for morning, day and evening times, it gets very busy if you wait too long to attend, so my advice is, go early, as you could be caught up in a long que. The restaurant has a good selection of food at all meal times.
The hotel provides good entertainment throughout the week, including a parrot and snake show & of course spainish dancing etc . Prices at the hotel bar are quite dear, then its a hotel.
There is a very nice pool with nice gardens, with a large shallow pond with fish etc. Just make sure you pack some good mosquito insect repellent in your case, as they do tend to have mosquito’s around the Hotel & grounds at different times of the year, and they do bite.

Benalmadena; This is large well delveloped resort, with a very nice marina close by, where you can have a drink or a bite to eat and watch the boats come and go. There is a very long prom’ with shops & bars along the way that links to other resorts including Torremolinos. There is also a very nice Cactus garden, with a man made lake, its very near to the Best Siroco Hotel. You can sit and watch swans, ducks, chickens & rabbits and you can have a drink at the main gate as you enter or leave the gardens.

Torremolinos; is great for shopping, as there is a decent shopping area, which is found up some winding steps, with bars, small shops along the way. There is also a fantastic beach with a long prom’ that links up other resorts, including Benalmadena. Also to be found, is a market behind the resort at least once a week.

Fuengirola; is a very large resort, and also has a very nice beach which runs for about 5 miles, and a long prom’ that goes on an on. Tuesdays is market day, a brilliant market that has everything you need for home and in Spain. You can catch a train from here too, the station is quite close to the centre of town. There is also a Bus station too, where you can catch a bus to Marbella etc.

Gibralta; If you go to Gibralta,it takes about 1.30hrs from Benalmadena by coach, just remember to take your passport, as you will be leaving Spain and then entering little Britain, tho’ this can take a while to get into Gibralta, as you have to wait for aircraft ,then you can cross the runway. Theres a long street called mainstreet, where you find uk shops like M&S, and loads of bars etc. You can also go see the monkeys on the rock via cable car or a trip in a people type carrier. Inside the rock its self, is where you can vist the world War 2 tunnels made by the army etc.

To sum up; The Costa del Sol has some great places to visit, but to be honest, its got very expensive over the years, i guess just like everywhere else. If you do decide to have a week or two, i would not go there as a self catering option.
If you are looking for a clean well run Hotel, then the Best Siroco is a good place to stay, there are other Hotels of course. We found this Hotel to be in a great location, just about 10mins walk to the Marina. We went in the first week of November, a lot of the shops were closed, it was quieter than summer season of course, but it was perfect with the weather being so nice, about 21*- 24*.
I hope this has been helpful to anybody thinking of going.

Second time at this hotel and is was as good as the first. Choice of food is varied, rooms are regularly cleaned to a high standard, pool maintenance and cleaning is carried out, staff are very hospitable and friendly. A good resort with plenty to do and plenty of places to go either on the service bus or through one of the many tour operators - worth getting up early and going to Seville and/or Granada.

stayed here for a week 16/23 oct 09, hotel is very basic but clean, we had a top floor room which was nice and was kept clean. hotel is in great position handy for marina and bus stop but the food was awfull i am not a piccy eater but after 3 days we ate out the food is bland and has no taste the service was very slow if you did not get down early enough you had to Q and then there was very little food left and was only warm. drinks were the same price as you would get in the smaller bars. the hotel needs a good revamp and all flooring in lobby's leading to room's need to be changed as they are well by there sell by date.
