“Perfect location but book room only”
Reviewed 5 July 2011

This was our 2nd time staying in the Palmasol hotel. We chose to go back to this hotel due to the location. It is situated across the road from the Marina and beach. It is also very close to the 24 hour square.
Last time we stayed at this hotel it had a H10 status which it now no longer has. The reviews are true that it has gone downhill but only in the food department (in my opinion). Regarding the food I would suggest eating out. The breakfast was ok offering the usual cooked food, hard bread and some fruit but the evening meals were dreadful. I found myself most nights just eating chips and some pasta. Due to the loss of it's H10 status (and now no longer being run by Thompson) the hotel seems to cater for spanish/ german guests rather than English.
The rooms are basic. There are 2 pushed together single beds, a flat screen TV and cupboards. Not many English channels and only 1 plug socket. The bathroom was nice but occasionally had a smell of the drains. The maid often forgot to leave us with any towels so we did have to chase her and ask for them most days. The hotel has air conditioning as well. Most rooms have a view of the sea. Our room faced onto the side street even though we did ask for a pool view room. The initial look out is onto a run down building but to the left we had a beautiful view of the Marina and sea. Unfortunately at night it was very noisy due to people using the hotel's street as a cut through from the square and beach. It was very bad especially on Friday and Saturday night and seemed to last up until the early hours. There is also a walk way from the pool to the marina which was accessible until 1am.
The pool area was clean and very nice. There is also an outside jacuzzi and a gym. Inside the gym was an indoor pool but it was not in use when we stayed here.
There is a mcdonalds in the square and a burger king on the front. The area itself is lovely. It does get very busy at night but there are plenty of shops and bars.
A few tips: don't bother with Tivoli World, it has gone downhill. Defiantly go on a boat trip, we enjoyed a 2 hour day trip on Topcat with drinks included. The ice creams in the marina are lovely, try some. Aqualand is good fun but look out for 3 euro discount in hotel lobby. Avoid Maracas bar the drinks they gave us had no alcohol in them. Look out for Buddy's bar down in a little square opposite mcdonalds.

when we first arrived we were not shown around and were left to find everything ourselves, we were told that the hotel was for young party people and singles but we soon realised it was mainly for the older generation. the staff were quite arrogant apart from the house keeping, they were lovely, on the other hand i had hurt myself one night and got a little blood on my bed sheets, when i came back 2 my room later in the day it appeared they had made the beds etc but hadn't put clean sheets on the beds as there was still blood on the sheets. we had all inclusive package with the hotel but found ourselves eating out every day as the food was just awful. The area itself was absolutely beautiful, lots of shops and many pubs and clubs so we enjoyed ourselves but was a waste of money as most of the all inclusive was NOT all inclusive ie. drinks, we only had a small selection of drinks that were incusive, the rest we had to pay for and were extremely expensive. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you are self catering and not spending alot of time in the hotel through the day.

We are regular visitors to the hotel and have written other reviews. We feel compelled to write again in order to stress the excellent value the Hotel Palmasol represents for those of us who appreciate it. For those who do not enjoy good food, the efforts of hard working staff and relaxing gardens it is better that you leave the hotel to the regular guests who do. The only downside to our recent stay in May was the sudden influx of Icelandic students some of whom behaved appallingly, we sincerely hope that the new management take a different view in the future to such large groups of unsupervised students.

Our trip was good. Andalucía is great, hire a car and ride it from east to the west. Beaches are also ok.

But not this hotel. Most of the windows are looking to the street which is awful. MAKE sure you have pool-view! Bathroom is unbelievable tiny. And food and drinks - thats a story! Cheese is not cheese (but the cheapest butter-like one), ham is not ham (but junior-salami), bacon is not bacon (but soya), pasta is awful, everyday fish is without any taste and - believe or not - "grilled steak" is nothing else than spam (yes - lunchmeat). I had to laugh.

Message to the cheif: please do spagetti with olive oil, garlic, chilli and parmigianio just like other normal hotels.

The hotel has nearly everything it shold have. It should be definitely cheaper though. Dont expect much and DO NOT order All Inclusive. You will hate the food after 2 days. Go out and get some decent lunch in the port or somewhere else. Or even better - get only breakfasts if possible.

Internet? No way. 6 E per 24 hours.

We have just came back from Benalmadena and stayed at the Hotel Palmasol the general state of the hotel is fine but the view at the front of the hotel looks like Beirut.
The building opposite has been in the process of demolition for the last two years but on this visit it actually looks alot worse.
The location of the hotel is great just up from the Marina and not far from the tacky 24 hour square.
Next year i wouldnt be taken my clients there again.

Room Tip: Avoid the 24 hour square as its shady

Stayed at this hotel for 10 days, the food was terrible, and most of the staff, with the exception of the bar staff, were rude. The lobby staff were exceptionally rude.
The hotel security didn't speak any English at all and their standard response to everything was absurd hostility towards guests.
The cleaning staff repeatedly left out parts of the room and over the course of the trip our room got dirtier and dirtier. The balcony was never cleaned.
The rooms were very small and the view from our room was of a broken down apartment building where homeless people slept and drug dealers sold drugs.

At one point the door handle was sprayed with shaving cream from the outside so in order to get in we would have to dirty our hands in it. I went down and asked the lobby staff to send someone up to clean it, I then went out for food and when I came back, 2 hours later, nothing had been cleaned. I talked to the lobby staff again and they said "The cleaning staff went home half an hour ago". I repeated the fact that I had asked for this 2 hours ago and after a series of rude comments like "Do I look like I'm a cleaner?!" eventually they said they would send someone up. Half an hour later we borrowed some towels and cleaned it ourselves.

The bottom line is that as far as the hotel goes our stay was thoroughly unenjoyable and I would not go back.

Arrived at hotel to be given a poor room so were moved two days later to a room overlooking the pool. Then loads of students arrived who spoilt our holiday. Running up and down corridors all night with alcohol, banging doors and shouting. Then we heard them being sick in a bin outside our room. We told the management who came up but nothing changed apart from the students phoning our room at 5am two mornings running and laughing. The dining room reminded me of a really busy canteen with so many people mainly the students and food very average. Loved the area but will never go back to the hotel.
