“Nice Hotel”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Spent a week there at Easter 2012 with my Daughter and Grandson , thoroughly enjoyed it , hotel nice and clean , staff very friendly , food good and plentiful , to be fair it wasn't full occupancy so couldn't comment on what it would be like at high season but there is plenty of space so shouldn't be a problem. It's in a very good location for the excellent Marina and Beaches and I would definately go there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view , as the other side looks onto a derelict building site

My husband and i stayed at the Palmason two years in a row in 2010 and 2011 and i can say we had a lovely time. the hotel is very nice and clean, the rooms are ok. the first time we had a room facing the street and the sea. we were happy to be able to see beautiful sunsets and sunrises from our room which was on the 5th floor. the second time, we had a pool view room which was lovely as well. we were happy with the choice of food and the quality. variety at breakfast, lovely salads at dinner time, fish, spanish dishes with sea fruit, very nice deserts and at least 3 different tipes of fresh fruits. the staff are nice, some of them more than others, there were days when we could hardly find someone that understand english, luckily i speak spanish as well so we managed, but otherwise, it can be a problem. internet is at a charge, i believe we paid 6 euros for 24 hours acces but the connection was very bad so the second time we went to Benalmadena we found the solution. just take your laptop or phone with you when you are going to mcdonalds and there you have free wi-fi. there are also many coffee shops that offer free connection. we never had a problem with things missing from the room even coins left on the table, everything was there. the bed sheets are being changed only once a week, i believe this should be done more often as the weather is hot and you are constantly sweating.
we experienced a few days when the hotel was almost full and at meal times, we literally had to stay in a queue for food and the queue was all the way up to the reception. this was not very nice and maybe they should think of organising things differently, but then the restaurant is not very big and i guess there was not much that they could do at that time. a few of the waiters did not understand a word in english and it was quite funny, there were just nodding and smiling but they had no idea i was asking for wine....but we really enjoyed spending time with a few great people, Josefina, Jose, Jesus, Eric, Monika......you all made our stay very pleasant and fun!
Overall, we had a nice holiday we were happy with the service and the conditions. if you would like a quiet hotel in a beautiful setting this is the place...

Room Tip: we chose a 5th floor room both times and this was lovely and quiet....

Got back from the Palmasol yesterday ...brrrrr. Last minute booking all inclusive. Lovely hotel in a great location. We had a room on the 5th floor overlooking the pool and side sea view. The road side is a bit dismal as there are a lot of derelict buildings (also generally in benalmadena since my last visit). I would say this hotel suits mature couples best, there wasn't a lot for the children to do, didn't see any games machines, no slides or inflatables in pool but it is only early season. You can tell the hotel has recently been painted etc. Great room, 2 single beds...very comfy, the mattresses look brand new. Bathroom was a bit small, nowhere to put your toiletries and the shower water sprayed all over the place (note it would suddenly go red hot from warm to cold). I wouldn't be happy with children on the balcony as the walls are glass and it gave the impression of not being safe(which I'm sure it is).

When we arrived the students had just gone and I guess the hotel wasn't even half full, pool area and restaurant empty, no queues for drinks. The indoor pool was open and the hot tub, the gym didn't have a lot of usable equipment. Plenty of sunbeds which were as comfy as any others and washed off by the staff. The outdoor pool was way too cold for the sensible! By the end of the week lots of Spanish people arrived for the Easter break (wearing their fur coats) . No problems, they were all polite and friendly.

We thought the food was excellent ! We're not too fussy but I guess they can't please everyone. Choice of full "English" or continental breakfast 7.30-10.15am. A few strange additions like cauliflower in batter !!!
Lunch 1.00-3.00pm and dinner 7.00-9.45pm. If you didn't want a meal you could have a sandwich from the bar, crisps and nuts were given out freely. Drinks were brought to your table and If you ordered wine they left the whole bottle.
Drinks choice was good. Lager, local spirits, red, white, rose wine, vermouth, schnapps, plus a few more....I didn't see any cocktails. You do have a wrist band but all drinks have to be signed for.

The staff were great, I think this was down to them being mature and experienced. Room cleaned every day if you want and full change of towels. Very clean and gardens kept tidy. All tried their best with English.

Not much entertainment, usual Spanish shows. Be aware at the wild bird show photo's can only be taken by the team and you will be charged 10 euros to be paid there and then for each photo.

As others have said the lifts are tiny but very effective. They're really quick.

Generally we found eating and drinking out a little on the expensive side compared to the canaries where we usually go. Drinks were around 8 euros for 2 spirits with mixers. Steaks were from about 15 euros. We ate at Jacks the american diner opposite the back of the hotel. 10.95 euros for a cheeseburger and fries.....it was yummmm. We had a taxi from la carihuela ?? to the hotel one night and it was 9 euros ....it's about 2 miles.

However, it was only early season and there was noise throughout the night from local bars and inconsiderate neighbours.

Would deffo stay here again all inclusive as it worked out soooo much cheaper.

Room Tip: General tip....remember to secure the top on your toothpaste before putting in suitcase....euuurggh.

Ideal location for the marina and for 24 hour square (which isnt 24 hour). Satisfactory rooms but without coffee making facility. Didn't see any of the food. Good clean and impressive hotel overall but no free internet.

Room Tip: Pool view at the back, otherwise a street view at the front.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a week in February, first impressions were very favourable, room was spacious, showers were large. The view was over the mountains to the west of the hotel. All inclusive was the usual generic food for us brits but we still found something to eat at each sitting. Breakfasts were the usual juices, bacon, eggs, freshly fried/bbq'd meats for lunch and dinner and drinkable house red and white. Lager is the 'house' Estrella Damm (definitely improved since the last time I was in Spain!).As other reviewers commented there is only one socket ,but it is live all the time (doesn't turn off when you remove the key) plus there is a shaving socket in the bathroom that you can use as well. It was 'pension fortnight' for the Spanish but we didn't have any problem with them,if you were pleasant to them they would be the same back (barging asides of course!). The staff were very helpful throughout the stay.Location was excellent being only a short stroll from puerto marina. I have no idea what the hotel will be like when it goes all British in April but we had a very good time and would not hesitate to go back in off season.Gorgeous weather and good hotel, what else could you want!!

My husband and I stayed A/I at this hotel for 2 weeks in Feb/March 2012.
Our main concern with hotel was that I have problems walking and there was no lift to the dining room. Access was by 17 steps and a dodgy bannister there was a fire exit which we used to leave by but only opened from inside and we were frowned upon by guests for using it because it caused a draft. Indoor swimming pool again was in a separate building to hotel and only access was by outside steps with no bannister on last 4 steps.
The hotel and rooms were very clean but many of the chairs on the terrace were covered with bird dirt for the whole of the holiday.. .
The food was generally good but be careful of the meat grill sometimes the food was undercooked.
Staff extremely helpful and First Choice rep was always on hand.
We found many of the British guests miserable and unfriendly even when spoken too. The Spanish were pushy and noisy but this is their custom and at least they were very friendly.
We have stayed at 4 star hotels in the resort which were a great deal worse than this hotel. All in all this was a cheap holiday at a 3 star hotel and considering we were A/I you get very good value for money.

Room Tip: After a week we changed from one side of hotel to the other. Rooms overlooking pool have better view...

This hotel is good on some things but dreadful on others. Gardens and common areas were very well kept, but our room looked a bit tired/dated AND it's difficult to excuse holes in the sheets, however the rooms were cleaned & towels replaced every day. When we arrived, the only electrical socket was hanging out of the wall, so we used our travel kettle (very gingerly) for a couple of days. We ended up taking a photo of this to show the reception staff and to their credit, when we returned to our room a couple of hours later, the socket had been fixed. Staff were generally helpful and service in the bar was pleasant, but slowed down by the hotel's system of asking guests on all inclusive to sign a slip for their drinks. For some reason, rose wine wasn't served in the bar even though it was freely available in the dining room. Meals were hit and miss - care appeared to have been taken to make everything look nice, but apart from the salads, most dishes were bland and a bit on the lukewarm side. The evening entertainment was passable (have experienced worse in a 4* hotel on Ibiza). As far as the pensioners are concerned, if they don't use their health service for a year, they're given a free holiday in Spring (British NHS should maybe take note)!! Some of them do tend to gather on staircases to talk and aren't familiar with the idea of queuing for anything, but they weren't ALL Hell's Grannies. Overall, we'd a pleasant enough stay and the hotel's in a great location, providing you can cope with slopes and steps in the resort. However, after taking a day trip to beautiful Nerja, we don;t think there's much chance of us returning to Benalmadena or the Palmasol.

Room Tip: Don't ask for room 348 - try to get the room across the corridor from it - more sun, less breeze...
