Stayed at this hotel with a colleague on a 4 day working trip to Benalmadena. I must say at the off neither of us had ever visited this area before so it was booked on trust and hope our luck was in. It was very strange to be working and staying at an all inclusive holiday hotel. My colleague and I choose this hotel because it offered good value for the time of year and for the period we were there. At the start let me say the biggest drawback is outside the hotel as it sits just over halfway up an hill known locally as cardiac hill and it means what it says.
It was a typical 3 star Spanish hotel, nothing spectacular but still quite comfortable. At this time of year it'smainly full of British and Spanish senior citizens. My room was overlooking one of the pools, it was clean, bed was comfortable and towells were changed daily. The bar staff were friendly and helpful probably a little more than the dining staff. The entertainment was typical of these hotels though I must say one night ther was a solo singer I think his name was Gerald Williams, a bald headed guy but he had a cracking voice and did his repotoire from the 50's, 60's and 70's, he went down a treat. One point not for me to overlook the hotel was not as noisy as some hotels' I have been to in Spain the sound proofing seemed a bit better [marginly], One small moan the tv room is in the main hall where all the entertainment takes place and its bloody hard trying to watch a football match with bingo and singing going on behind you, could do with moving the football to a quiter area. All in all if it's a typical, reasonably priced, comfortable, passable with typical 3 star food nothing exciting but nothing untold either [and of course you can cope with cardiac hill], then this hotel is ok, but always remember do not expect the same comforts as home, do that and you will enjoy.

I have never stayed at a 3 star hotel before and as you will see from my review I will not again.

I will write my review from when the holiday started.

THE HILL. It is steep but you just have to be prepared. Most elderly people had to rest half way up.

RECEPTION. Friendly staff, but surprised by lack of air con here.

ROOM. We were put in Bali III which was found via interconnecting corridors. It was quiet as we were away from the entertainment and we were on the top floor with only 3 other rooms. We had paid extra fro a studio room. It was VERY tired. The tiles around the bath all needing replacing and from looking at the walls on the other rooms it had leaked on previous occasions. They had just done some patching up, and poorly. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable so we ended up sleeping spearately on the bed sofa which mad into 2 single beds. TV, there were a few english channels, BBC1, ITV3, Zone reality and Eurosport. On the last day the picture was so bad we could not watch it. We had a small kitchen area, with a fridge.

FOOD. We paid for all inclusive. This hotel has not been doing this for long and it showed. We have to all inclusives before in Spain, with 4 or 5 star and they were much better. You were not allowed to take food or drink out of the dining room or bar. Snakcs were only avaiblew at certain times and were burgers or toasties. The food in the main restaurant I consider to be poor. There was very little choice. Every day was chips and although we did not have children with us there was little for them. There was a microwave available which was used due to the food being luke warm.

CLEANING. We had expected our room to be cleaned every day as we were staying in a hotel on all inclusive but because we chose a studio it was apparenlty only to be cleaned twice a week.

ENTERTAINMENT. The staff did a good job and by Spanish standards this was quite good.

We would not go back but would consider trying a 4 or 5 star by the medplaya company.

My partner and myself went to benalmadena for my partners 40th birthday, we stayed at the hotel Bali on a b+b basis. The breakfast was lovely, wide choice and very fresh, i didn't know fried eggs could taste that good! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel room was basic and clean,it was nothing flash but we got a little more than we payed for. There is a wide choice of eating out nearby, and great value for money so i was glad we only booked b+b, after the large breakfast we didnt need anything to eat till evening, we had chinese twice as it was 4.50 euros for three courses and was lovely.it was called xiao bilaou,it is near ibensa sq. we also ate at georgios italian, that too was good value and fantastic food.Try out oasis if you want a great sunday lunch too! The food in the area is fantasic whatever your preference, spanish, italian, chinese, english ect.Benalmadena is a great place with plenty to do during the day and early evening is great for dining out,but the only drawback to the whole holiday was the nightlife, the local bars put on great cabarets but you dont feel too safe out at night. We did encounter a litte trouble in one of the bars, and you have to be on your guard for muggers! We will go back to the resort as we're not to fussed about clubbing because everything else makes up for that!

After staying in Hotel Bali I would definately recommend it to a friend.... It is an ideal location for a short break away.... When we checked in the Reception Staff were really helpful, gave us directions to our room, we arrived early in the afternoon so we checked out the accomodations and were impressed with the cleanliness... after reading some reviews I was pleasantly surprised to see how clean the room was and also the bathroom!!! We dropped the bags and went for a walk to see where everything was, it is quite central to the main street & the beach is very close also.... we were both Very Happy with the location!! Only fault I had was "Cardiac Hill!!" I understand now why its called this... your on holidays though there is no rush!!

Accomodations staff were nice and when got back everyday the room was immaculate, fresh towels, sheets..... couldnt fault them!!

The pools in the Hotel are really nice and clean..... I was surprised how busy it was but the weather was FANTASTIC!!!

They could work on the Bar Staff a small bit, I did notice that if you did not have an all inclusive "wrist band" they were not very interested in serving you...the entertainment was good!!! We ate out every night the Restaurants down the promenade along the beach are lovely and quiet reasonable... we ate down the Marina a few nights too and it is really nice but a little bit more pricey than nearer the hotel!!

Keoghs Bar is in Bonanza Square we called in for a drink and Kris the owner was really helpful, went back the next day for dinner and the food was Gorgeous!!!

The dolphin Cruise is Brilliant, I couldnt believe the how many of them are actually living there.....
Gibraltar is another day trip we took, a really enjoyable day and the monkeys are hilarious!!!!

Great Holiday and a lovely Hotel...

I booked a short 3 day break for my partner and I as a surprise anniversary present. After arriving in to Malaga airport, we took the train to Benalmadena station. After an hours walk, and getting lost, we found our hotel.

It's at the top of a very steep hill, and my only gripe was, there is nothing actually telling you where the reception is. There is a big sign, and a 'P' for Parking, so we walked right around the hotel at first, but once we got back to this sign, we explored further to find the reception entrance within the car park area.

Our booking was found immediately, and we were directed to our room, which was in Bali 1. Our room on the 2nd floor was spacious enough for the 2 of us, with a TV on the wall, and a pool view.

The hotel is absolutely enormous, and took a while for us to find our bearings. We decided on staying by the main pool, just outside the main bar area. We were half board, and the food was OK. It's not the best i've had abroad, but by no means was it the worst. The reastaurant however was extremely busy, even in what I expect is a quieter month. I expect in July & August it's an absolute nightmare. The other ppol area was actually nicer, but being as we were travelling without children we preferred the main pool.

The drinks were reasonable; €1.75 for a bottle of San Miguel, €1.40 for a soft drink, and snacks from the pool bar were also reasonably priced. €4.00 for a toastie and chips.

Out and about, the resort was nice with several shops, eateries and a decent beach. There is an excursions agency, just outside the hotel which appeared to be very competitive on price. A day trip to Gibraltar for instance was €12.00.

Overall we had a really enjoyable stay, albeit for only 3 days. The weather was incredible (low 30's everyday) and the hotel was more than adeqaute for us. I would recommend it to anyone considering a holiday in the Benalmadena area.

On a seperate note, and if you don't mind sorting out your own transfers, you may wish to look at the hotels own website (www.medplaya.com) for a booking direct as opposed to using a travel agent. I paid £117 (€122) for the 2 nights half board, and the best Thomson could offer was £85 for self catering. Ryanair fly from nearly every UK airport to Malaga, and often have some incredibly priced low fares. I paid £80 return for the 2 of us, including all taxes, fees and charges. The train from the airport runs every 30 minutes, and takes 18 minutes. The cost is €1.50 each single.

We have just returned from a weeks all inclusive holiday, we were a little aprehensive after reading some reviews, however the hotel is great, please read on for a 100% accurate and honest description.
We arrived at 3pm on a Sunday and were greeted by 2 friendly reception staff who took our details and kept 1 passport until the next day, we received our key and directions to our room. We were allocated Bali 2, there are 3 complexes in total. Our room although small was clean, with a LCD tv, nice modern bathroom, clean sheets, towels etc and a view overlooking the sea.
We unpacked and headed to the bar for a well earned drink and a snack, the drinks were all in with the deal, and local drinks are served, along with San Miquel beer !
We ordered drinks and a snack, all very efficient and polite staff.
The pools, of which there are 3 were all clean, and have lifeguards. The sun beds are white hard plastic, however if you can get a yellow one, they are much more comfortable.
The meals are great, buffet style, nothing fancy but plenty of choice, everyone can make a meal out of whats on offer, so don't listed to those people whom say the food is crap, its hot, fresh, and tasty. Breakfast was great, fry ups, continental, cerial, toast etc..
Evening entertainment was great, we don't normally stay in of an evening but on the 2 occasions we did the night was good, from magicians to singers.
If your a smoker there is a smoking room, well ventilated and great to chill out, really quiet but you can watch everyone going past !! even non smokers were in there as its so chilled out (no kids) !!!
The 'hill' everyone talks about is steep but just take your time, your on holiday so there is no need to rush !
We will be back again, great value for money, location is great, just off the main rpad so no traffis noise, 10 minutes from the Harbour, and minutes from the beach, what more can you ask for

Have just come back from a short break to Malaga staying at the hotel Bali. The transfer from the airport takes about 25-30 mins. Ours was slightly longer because of road works but wasn't too bad.

The hotel is fairly large but has a cosy and friendly feel to it. It is situated a short way up a hill so walking down to the main road is fine (about 3 mins) but when going back up the hill to the hotel, it does take a little effort so not recommended for those who have difficulty walking.

The room was basic but comfortable. It was cleaned by the maid service on the 2nd day which is fine. Food was good with a nice selection. We were only there for 3 days but there was a good variety while were there.

The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had a room on the top floor (floor 7) with great views out onto Benalmadena and along the coast.

You can easily get to Malaga or Marbella along the coast by local Bus - 45 mins either way. Just ask anyone at the bus stop for numbers, etc. Other tourists will always be very helpful. Also, do take the bus to Mijas (Bus No 121). You will not regret the journey. You get great views of the coast from Mijas and the village itself is very pretty.
