“a friendly hotel in a friendly resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2010

just returned from my first stay at the Bali Hotel. Its a great hotel in a good location in a cracking little resort. The Bali is 3 interlinked buildings (Bali I, II & III) located on a reasonably steep (but short) hill 5 minutes from the beach. All of the staff I encountered were incerdibly helpful and polite.

As a single traveller you often get a poor quality/limited facilities room. Not at the Bali. I was checked into a fantastic single, no smoking room on the 5th floor, with a great balcony, pool and sea view. The room was a small double containing 2 single beds (with very comfy matresses about 30cm deep) a mirrored sliding wardrobe with both hanging space and shelves (plenty hangers too). There as an electronic safety deposit box (with a very reasonable cost of €2 per day with a €3 returnable deposit). there was also a writing desk/chair and flat screen TV showing limited spanish/german/english channels. The well equipped modern bathroom had a full bath with shower over, sink vanity, WC and bidet. Huge mirror and a hairdyer and in case you've forgotten any essentials, some travel sided complimentary products waiting for my arrival. I even had 2 sets of towels!! The rooms are not equipped with tea/coffe facilities/ironing facilities or fridges (although you can rent a fridge from reception. housekeeping visited every day.

The restaurant is buffet style and is open for breakfast 08:00-10:30, lunch 13:00-15:00 and dinner 18:30-21:30. The food was suitable for all palates, was well cooked and well presented. There are also 2 pool bars, the bar and various vending machines selling snacks & cold drinks. you wont go hungry!

There are 2 pools both with children' s pools and are open early to late (advertised between 10:00-18:00 although was open earlier & later during my visit) and both areas have a lifeguard during the summer season. Both pools and surrounding areas were cleaned each day.

There are indoor smoking rooms in the main lobby, so smokers can have some respite from the sun. There are internet facilities and a 24 reception.

exiting the hotel take short walk down the hill, straight across the main road and continue down to the beach (approx 5 mins) there are steps down to the promenade, although if you turn right (or left) at the main road you will find more graduated steps or ramps to the promenade just a short walk away.

The dark sand beach is narrow in places, with a narrow band of larger grain sand/shell at the waters edge (little people might want to wear pool shoes). The beach has plenty beds and parasols (avg price for daily rental of 1 bed & parasol €4.50). there is a bit of beach that just out to your right as you look at the ocean. The water here seems to be clearer and you can also mert the family of ducks that visit the beach each day (they even have their own parasol, drinking water and bucket of lettuce and take frequent dips in the sea!! the kids will love it. The promenade is a lovely walk and is crowded with bars, restaurants (I can recommend Pinoccio's Louge bar (upstairs above Beny's cafe bar) for great food and a warm welcome. Other bars of note were Ma Brady's and Cheers) and "lucky lucky men" who sell replica bags/sunglasses/hats jewellery. The beach is frequented by beverage sellers, and lucky lucky men (a polite no and they will leave you alone)

The beautiful Paloma Park is 5 minutes from the hotel (turn right at the main road then right at Windmill roundabout ( you cant miss Windmill, its a big structure covered in childrens windmills). The park is full of ducks, chickens, doves, peacocks & rabbits all wandering around (you can also see emu's and deer and turtles - well worth a visit free entry - again your little people will love it.

walking left along the promenade you will reach the end of the beach, the sea life centre and the beautiful marina chock full of yachts, agin a lovely stroll and you can join a cruise around the marine, out to the bay and beyond from one of the many tourist boats.

There are some great venues for entertainment. left along the main road will bring you to 24 hour square where you will find discos and bars. if you exit the hotel and walk up the hill and around the corner you will find bonanza square, where there are lots of bars with some great music acts. I can recommend the Bonanza Bar and The Elephante.

You can easily reach the neighboring resorts, on foot, or by local bus. The resort has many taxi ranks and there is also a hop on hop off city sighteeing bus as well as resort street train

I had a great time both in the hotel and resort and will definately visit again

Hotel Bali was perfect for our holiday. Me and partner who are 18 and 20 wanted to enjoy a resort with as few rowdy teenagers as possible. There were a few youngchildren but we were able to peacefully sunbathe by the pool. The hotel was very clean and a maid came to tidy up and replace towels every morning. If you did not want to be disturbed you were provided with a "Do Not Disturb" sign and the maid would return when you had gone to breakfast or out. The food was really nice too, we went half board. It was a buffet style breakfast and tea and there was plenty to choose from. There were two pools in the Bali and plenty or room although we regually put out our towels to make sure we got the perfect spot for sunbathing. The weather was amazing, almost too hot but we would just quickly jump in the pool to cool down. The pools were very clean and not too busy. The hotel staff were very pleasent also, there were plenty of thompson reps to help us if we needed them. The reps in the hotel would provide info on day trips and also short scuba diving lessons were available in the hotel pool. Cheap internet was provided in the hotel also as well as entertainment on a night by the pool. The area where hotel Bali is situated was good, although the hotel is set on a slight slope it is not too steep to walk as some people exagerate. There a a few pubs on the way down the slope including the Albatros, where we played bingo and quizzes and won bottles of wine :) There is also a curry house at the end of the slope which is very nice, as well as cocktail bars and 24hr square (a complex of younger bars) further on towards Torremolinos. Nearer the hotel are small pubs for older ages which we perferred, these pubs were fairly quiet but we met a couple and made friends with the bar staff who were mainly irish and english. All over our holiday was amazing, the beach is fantastic and the people are polite. People d try sell you things on the beach and in the pubs but just firmly say no and they will go also there are plenty of cheap fare buses to run you to different owns to do some shopping. The Bali hotel is friendly and pleasent and we wouldnt go anywhere else as we are due back there for 2weeks in Aug! Oh and visit Aqua world!!!

When the taxi dropped us off at the Bali Hotel, my heart sank. There were dozens of Spanish children running around and screaming (and blocking our entrance), and loud music was blaring out from the bar. As we walked to our apartment, it was apparent that the interior was in need of a lick of paint and a few minor repairs, however, I was pleasantly surprised with the apartment.

The air con was good and the safe was free of charge (though it may be chargeable in some rooms as the notes we were given on arrival said a fee must be paid). There was a new kettle in the room (but the tiniest tea cups I have ever seen) and, unfortunately, there was a mop and a broom, which we were expected to use as our room was cleaned just once in the week that we were there.

We had to ask for clean towels at reception (several times) and toilet roll when required. I found this quite shocking, and this is what let the hotel down badly. After being out all day, it’s nice to return to a room with fresh towels in a clean bathroom with a newly made bed but we had to do all this ourselves. On checking with reception, we were told the rooms were cleaned every 4 days. Oh, and we had to dispose of our own rubbish after a certain time on another floor.

We also enquired about the check-out time, and was told 12pm, however, on the day of departure, we went for a walk and, on returning to the room after 11am, we found the key card no longer worked. The maid was waiting to clean the room, and reception was ringing to tell us to vacate the room. This was the only day they showed any urgency.

All in all, it was a 3 star hotel, and I think we got what we paid for. Our stay was reasonably comfortable and not having the room cleaned or towels changed was more of an irritant than something that spoiled our holiday. Thankfully, the rude schoolchildren moved out the day after we arrived. I used to think stars were awarded according to the hotel facilities but whenever I stay in a 3 star hotel, it always seems to have the mandatory mould on the bathroom tiles.

We couldn’t fault the area. The beaches are lovely and the seafront was a pleasure to walk down. The marina was a 15 minute walk, and was one of the nicest marinas I have ever seen. Cardiac Hill wasn’t that bad, nor were the steps down to the beach but it depends how mobile you are. There were also some good trips, namely Fuengirola, Mijas and Gibraltar.

I would recommend the resort but maybe a different hotel, though it’s not the end of the world if you do stay here as it is close to everything, and has 2 pools so you can escape the noise if you want to (as long as there are no stag parties or school trips in operation).

Hotel and location, good, restaurant choice and quality of food very good, service was even better. We had two rooms, one for my daughter, sea view and close to beach. Hotel reps helpful, plenty to do if you have a young family. Entertainment at night varied and the team put everything into us having a good time. Would go again just definetly.

We stayed here last week of May, first week of June me hubby and three kids 4, 7 and 13, and i can fully agree with the previous comments. i was totally surprised that Thomson would send families to a hotel that appears to take bookings of anyone with money! to give a group of 30 lads all inclusive, the let them set up camp at the pool bar is disgraceful.. it was intimadating going to the bar, and the language was colourful to say the least!
Food was good for adults, not so for kids, my lot had soggy chips most mealtimes, but they are fussy. rooms were clean, we had two rooms, mine slept two, and was tiny with the smallest balcony ever. we had a nice sea view which we couldn't see if we sat down as our balcony wall was concrete. Cardiac hill is not so bad, but the road at the bottom is very busy. I didn't really rate the resort, torremolinos nearby is much nicer and cleaner.
Oh and how can i forget the spanish kids football tournament teams that were staying there? loads of them!!! it was like school dinner times when they were in the restaurant, they were noisy, rude, and really they shouldn't have been there in my opinion. There behaviour at the pool was awful too, you couldn't get in while they were all in. 50+ school kids in a not very big pool, trying to drown each other and dive bombing. the poor lifeguard had his work cut out!
Evening entertainment consisted of a mini disco, same 5 or 6 songs every night, the longest game of bingo ever, and the hotel team putting on shows. some bad, some ok.
They had a few outside acts come in as well. If your there for fusion 1 go out, the worst dance act i've ever seen!
I'd heard good stories about Bali from family and friends, but it appears to have gone downhill from when they stayed. I wouldn't go back.
