the velazquez hotel was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in!!!!our room was filthy.the beds were hard as rock with springs poking thru the mattress!!the wash basin in the bathroom was cracked and the toilet was coming away fom the floor!the handful of staff ignored us for the whole of our weeks stay and spoke very little english.and as for the food!!!it was lukewarm or cold no matter what time we went for our meal.nothing was labeled so most of the time we couldnt make out what we were eating!!!it is a spanish hotel for spanish people and it always seemed the few english people staying there were there under sufferace!!!the 6 or 7 english couples who were staying there all felt the same as us.you could never find the barman and when you did there was no vodka the coffee machine was broken and there was no gas for the beer!!!just what you need when your on holiday.the hill to the hotel is nearly vertical and is like climbing kilamanjaro!!!!we were only there for a week thank god,i couldnt have stood it for any longer than that!!!fawlty towers would have been a 5 star luxury hotel compared to the velazquez!!!!!the one consellation was the resort was lovely.....

Good points - Clean room. Plenty of hot water.
Bad points - No gas for draught beer for 3 nights. Ran out of Vodka. Some unattentive staff. Minging pool. Paid for half board but had to eat out most nights - Food not fit to feed pigs!

was booked into los pintores.arrived at 12.30 at night with a 15 year old and my sister. the hotel was closed and bus driver told us to go into el greco hotel opposite. we went in and were told that there were three hotels news to us. he then told us that we were not in this hotel but in another one up the hill.he would not show us were and we had to pull suitcase up hill and we went past the hotel and walked for 10 mins at 12.30 at night in a strange country lost thanks to a nice gentleman that showed us the way because the staff didnt care.the nightmare began.this is the worst hotel i have ever had the misfortune to stay in. the food was a disgrace two cereals and colds meats because the scrambled egg and fried eggs you could have beat them of the walls.the dinner always cold and not good.the food was poor. the staff were the rudest staff that i have ever come accross and no matter what you asked they shrugged their shoulders and looked at you as if you were from mars. you could not go outside to the pool area until 11am so to sunbathe you had to walk down the hill to go to the beach and coming uphill was awful in 35 degree heat.idont complain ever about hotels but this hotel should not even be open to the public as it is hazardous to your healthstay away

This relates to the Velazquez Hotel Benalmadena. This hotel must rank as the worst in Spain. The food is awful, cool or cold. The choice is poor and do not expect to have anything like good quality because you will be disappointed. This hotel boasts air conditioned bedrooms but this is rationed by the management. Therefore, it is possible to start sleeping with aircon on and find by 3am that you need to open the doors to allow cool air to enter. When challenged the Reception stated that the aircon was on twice a day and that it was cool outside. Apart from the aspect of cheating customers from their entitlement, it is possible that the police or other competent authority will be interested in this misdescription. There is a pervasive smell of sewage throughout the complex and the drains have obviously failed. This is another reason to avoid this Group of hotels like the plague . I could also write about the broken shower control, the mould around the taps and the lack of hot water, but any reader will have the picture by now.

I would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Velazquez. Given, it is a bit old and could use some sprucing up, but basically there's nothing to complain about. The hotel has amazing views of the sea and mountains, a great hot & cold breakfast, very helpfull English-speaking staff. Rooms are basic with shower over bath, but we didn't have any problems with hot water or otherwise. It's about 200m from the beach I would say, and yes, it is up a hill, but after having dinner in town you're actually glad for the bit of excercise! You can take a taxi from the hotel to Benalmadena train station for about €5, then get a train directly to the airport for €1.40 (it takes about 20mins) so its really easy and cheap to get where you need to be. There's a tourist information centre across the street from the Castle Bil-Bil, which is very helpful. Benalmadena is a lovely area, with mostly Spanish holiday-makers and not so many foreigners, which gives it a nice feel. Loads of families with small kids and older people.
