“Great hotel, staff lovely.”
Reviewed 17 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed for 11 nights on the 7th-17th July. We booked SC and when we checked in we opted for 5 days HB. We had breakfast and dinner and you can choose how and when to eat. The breakfast was a very good selection and plenty of it and never really busy at the times we ate. Dinner was ok , though some items not hot enough, good selection and theme nights. 19:00-21:00 is quiet in the restaurant as kids entertainment is on. Happy hour is 17:00-18:00 in the pool bar & 21:00-22:00 in the main bar / disco. The Dia supermarket is right next to the hotel and very cheap with quality products, 5 litres of water€0.47! Pathway to the beach will take you right there (take your room key for the gate) and avoids the hill to the hotel, with regard to the hill you can enter via the car park with your room key, this avoids the big climb to reception.
We had a studio for 2 adults 1 child fold out bed located under the sofa, the rooms are nicely furnished and the SC area is well equipped, room is in the roof space so very quiet with great views we had a pool, sea & mountain view.
We loved the spa area and indoor pool. The outdoor pool gets very busy and it's the usual carry on folk up at silly o'clock claiming there beds for the day with towels, though if you came down at 10:00 you could still get a sunbed, the life guards are very helpful they will try and get a space for you, 3 times during our pool visits we seen them removing towels from sun beds as no one had appeared after about 1pm to use them, good on the hotel for removing them. We had a lovely time. It's at the opposite end for the marina in benalmadena But a lovely walk along the seafront and lots of bars/restaurants to choose from, the marina is more expensive for food & drink and very busy, we enjoyed a trip to the ice bar and cocktails included in your entrance fee so worth a visit, they even play music from Disney Frozen and have movie characters inside, so kids love it! We also visited Tivoli world it's nice but not a lot for older kids, if you go visit the Chinese restaurant and opt for the set menu the food is excellent and €6.95 for 3 courses. I never go to the same place but have to say I would definitely return to the Benalmadena palace and have no hesitation in recommending it. Weather was fantastic, Benalmadena is a lovely town.

Hello everybody,

we are from norway and just came back from our holidays at the Hotel&Spa Benalmadena Palace yesterday. At first, I want to say sorry for my bad english. Now the review:

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks. (My parents, sister + husband and kids stayed for 1).

Place:
The hotel is just in the small town of benalmadena and right next to a wonderful beach. The hill everybody is talking about is really not that bad and for everyone who doesn´t want to walk the hotel has a shuttle bus service which is brilliant and the drivers were always good for some jokes and fun.

At the arrival we directly met the receptionist and they were all our stay long suer professional, funny and always tried to help with everything possible. A special thanks to Carlos, Trevor, Antonio and David. You are awesome guys!

The rooms were clean and big enough. So nothing more to say about that.

The bars were always very full but we never had to wait long for our drinks or snacks. Unluckily some of the waitors seemed to be stressed or whatever... From other hotels we are used to get to have some nice talks at e.g. the breakfast or the dinner so we were missing that a little bit. But not all of them. We want to say a special thank you to Amador. He was always very friendly and to our favourite waitress Raquel. It was one of her first weeks in the hotel but she is an all around professional. She was the only of the waiters that always had a smile on her lips. From the beginning of the day to the end. We had short time to talk to her so we heard that she was working in entertainment before. Brilliant mix. Unluckily we hadn´t time to say good bye to her because we couldn´t see her the last days. So if you read this commentary thank you very much and good luck with the work in the hotel! :)

At the pools there is always at least one lifeguard and they are taking there job really serious. I got a little injury in the football tournament and Manuel helped me directly and very professional so my leg is already better. Thank you.

Football tournament was one of the entertainment programs and there we come to my favourite part! THE ENTERTAINMENT. BRILLIANT! =) After reading the commentaries from the last weeks me and my girlfriend were really exited to get to know Mario the superstar! And he is a superstar! He is probably the funniest guy on this earth, brilliant in every sport, professional in organisation and handling with adults and kids awesome! Thank you mario for making our holidays perfect. For the kids there are ana and sandra doing a great job too so my sisters kids fell in love with both of them and... BENY the tiger :)

The evening entertainment was good. Mario was doing always funny games, bingo etc. and then there were some good magic and dance shows. To our suprise in one of the dance shows we saw again Raquel the waitress and so we can also say brilliant dancer and waitress :D hahaha... And tad is a karaoke king! :D

The security in the hotel always made us feel real safe and Richard(?) was helping us twice when we got lost in the hotel. That is the special thing in Benalmadena palace. Everybody tries to help you in everything.

At the end we just want to say that we could make an interesting discovery. Everybody is working brilliant and funny and so on. But always when the manager came to the bar people seemed to be different. My dad was working 28 years in an hotel and he says that this is not a good sign. So we are not really sure but to make the management know you have some brilliant workers in that hotel! Don´t put them under to much pressure !

We will definitly come back!

Upon arrival to the hotel we were informed that there were no rooms available ? We were sent the to hotel next door to spend our first night,as compensation were given dinner and breakfast free of charge and would told we were upgraded to pool view rooms (2) , the breakfast was plentiful and of a great variety , dinner was the same a great variety ,my only concern was that kids were allowed to go and fetch there own food unsupervised so it became messy, at one point a girl ate the ice cream off the scoop!
The hotel itself is very good nice and clean and the rooms were nice and modern and well cleaned the pool was excellent very busy but lots going on, the snack bar sold beer and cider but be careful they charge for a pint but the plastic glasses are a lot smaller that the bar inside ,the food from the snack bar is very god and reasonably priced. Be sure to get up and join the race for the sun beds in the more race starts around half eight/nine if you haven't got a sun bed by ten you won't get one .
This is the first time I have stayed in benalmadena and was impressed very clean and lots to do we visited the marina a few times ,this was excellent great shops and eateries. The beaches were excellent and clean the lucky lucky men do get tiresome after a while even my two year old learnt to say no thankyou

All in all I would recommend benalmadena palace the hill is a great workout for you legs there is plenty to do but it's a nice pleasant walk to the marina ,beaches and shops . On this occasion I can't complain about the pool side room as it was a free upgrade just be mindful some of it is situated over the bar and terrace which can be noisy, also at 1 in the morning staff insisted on scrapeing tables and chairs back and forth

Room Tip: Get your sunbeds reserved early

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Benalmadena Palace. On arrival our first thoughts were 'oh dear this is very far out of the centre'. Turns out that it was fine, there are plenty of shops and bars withing walking distance and we got taxi/mini train to Marina twice at about 6Euros each way. The hotel was lovely, very clean, well looked after and all staff brilliant and abundance of facilities and entertainment for children/families however we are a young couple so it was not really ideal for us. The pool was extremely busy and as you can imagine no sunbeds free from those who get up at crack of dawn to 'reserve' beds with towels. There was a quiet sun lounger area down the steps by indoor pool on the way towards tennis courts - we set up there if we were at hotel at all. We stayed in on self catering basis in a studio on top floor on front which was perfect as we could not hear any noise from pool/bars/cabaret although the balcony walls are high so you have to stand or sit on ledge for a view but we loved it. (if you're tall, this room will not suit due to slanted roof). The beach directly below hotel is nice and quiet and there's an Argentinian guy that mans his own section by water sports that is great, friendly, reserves for you and has a toilet!Maracas Bar on the beach was a good place day or night. The 'hill' back up to hotel is steep but fine - can cut through carpark and up lift and if coming back from DIA supermarket can come in back way by tennis courts. BEWARE of the looky looky men and massage women. i have never been anywhere so bad!! they are not policed so harrass you everywhere even on the more upmarket marina and we went to Puerto Banus twice and they were selling cheap tack outside Versace! We went to MIJAS twice which is definately worth a visit, lovely old spanish town set into mountain 15minutes away - visit MAYAN MONKEY to make your own chocolate there!!Would also recommend Argentinian Steak place called GAUCHO at the Marina. Overall we had a great time, great weather and constant breeze so not overwhelmingly hot. Plenty to do especially for families and plenty to drive to see if hire a car (90euros for 3 days). Typical Costa Del Sol but some hidden gems and would def recommend this hotel for families.

Room Tip: Request sea view on top floor or studio room on level 6 for quieter rooms. (620)

Just returned from a 12 night stay at this hotel, travelled as family of 4 (2 adults and 2 boys age 15 and 10). We had a room at the front of the hotel which had really lovely views to the right of the sea and to the left of the mountains and Tivoli World which was nice lit up at night. The hotel was ideal, room was a nice size and very clean, pool area was great and had lots going on throughout the day (which kept the boys amused). Never short of sunbeds and shade and "Super Mario" was a real gem organising the water polo, basketball etc always had a laugh watching the goings on. The boys especially loved the foam party. Had a few breakfasts and dinners in the hotel which were very nice, plenty to choose from. Restaurants are plentiful sometimes found it hard to decide as they were all great, think our favourite was Sabatinis which we ate in a few times it was reasonably priced and food was always suberb. Went to Selwo Marine Park for the day to see the dolphin show and was pleasantly surprised with all the other things going on in this park ie parrot show, feeding penguins and giant tortoises etc, well worth a visit. All in all Benalmadena is lovely and we will very likely return soon.

Room Tip: Higher floor room if possible.

I've been really busy since returning so it's a bit late so here goes.....

We stayed here from the 5th - 15th June 2014 all inclusive as a party of 8 (6 adults and 2 children)

From the check in everything was great. The staff were friendly and were always happy to help. Although sometimes we did feel as if the paying customers in the snack bar got preferential treatment. We got around this by giving a small tip at the start of the holiday to the ones who did make an effort straight away. Overall it was good bar service. Simon was fantastic.

The rooms were fab. We had a studio which is on the top floor. These have pitched ceilings so taller people may want to pay a little extra to have a normal room because of the restricted headroom. The balcony has very high block walls which are good for child safety but have no views if you like to sit there and admire the views (which are all really nice). The maids come every day to sweep/clean, beds were made every day and sheets changed every other.

The food was a fantastic. The breakfast like all the other restaurant foods were buffet. You have fresh juice, coffee and teas and everything from a cooked (English) breakfast to cereals and meats and cheeses (continental). The snack bar had lots to choose from but only certain things were part of the all inclusive but plenty enough to keep you going until dinner. I did find the evening meal got a bit boring after a few days but they do have to cater for everybody so I can understand why.

The drinks on the all inclusive are all local so you have to pay for cider and bottles but luckily San Miguel is local so I enjoyed lots of this. Sangria is also included along with spirits and a daily cocktail. (Varies from day to day). All inclusive ice creams are in small pots and only three flavours but good.

The pool area is always clean and safe with lifeguards on duty all day. They are strict but not that strict to stop you having the usual holiday fun. The kids pool is divided by a fence from the main pool such is really safe and the adult pool is varying in depth. We never had to fight for sunbeds because they were always in abundance. There is water polo for the adults around 3-4pm everyday and also games in the children's pool too. On one day there is a water slide another a bouncy castle and also a foam party which the kids really enjoyed.

The entertainment team are out of this world. The fabulous Mario did most of the day time things including darts, waterpolo and football and Marcel? Doing the evening including introducing the evening entertainment which is ok. The girls are also brilliant, they do the shooting/archery every morning at 11, the kids pool games and run the kids club (great for an hour or twos relax) you can leave them there all day like some people but I didn't, I just don't agree with it.

The hotel is at the end of Benalmadena so it's a good 30-40min walk to the marina and 15-20mins away from most restaurants but this wasn't a problem for us because we were all inclusive.

So we get I the part when I describe the hill. It is quite a gradient but coming from Wales this is just another hill. Nothing spectacular but if you're form a "flat" part of the the UK or have disabilities then I can see why it could be a problem. Although like most people have mentioned you can cut out the top part of the hill (the steepest part) by cutting through the car park and using the lift.

This hotel is very family orientated so I would think couples and older people may find it too noisy during the day and night. It's not a relaxing kind of hotel but if you like a bit of livelyness then it suits everybody.

We can't wait to go back to this hotel because of the family friendly nature of the whole place.

This was our third time at the Benal Palace with our last trip being 3 years ago. As we've done in the past we stayed self catering so we could go out for dinner in the evenings. The self catering facilities are great for light lunch snacks & breakfasts, etc.

The hotel has been well maintained with new non-slip tiles laid around the pool area and the spa has been improved too. Going in late June / early July the place was packed and come the afternoon it would be difficult to find a sunbed but hey - it's peak season. The staff were brilliant. The foam parties every Thursday afternoon and the inflatable waterslide on the Saturday afternoon were great fun for the kids.

Whilst the kids club / Animacion staff work really hard I think the mini-disco could be better for the kids as it only lasts for a couple of songs. Other hotels we've been at do organised games for the kids club but here it seemed more like a creche where the kids were free to do what they want. The team in the club though were fantastic with the kids. Reception staff were great, kind & really helpful when we needed it. All of the maintenance and house keeping staff always had a smile and said hello.

We ate once at the snack bar at the pool and didn't think much of it. It was overpriced for the standard and you can get better nearby for less. The pizzas appeared to be frozen - kept in a freezer at the pool snack bar kitchen. Don't think I'd fancy the half board or AI option. The food is the only reason I didn't give it 5 but to be fair we didn't eat in the restaurant - maybe that's a better standard?

For those going self catering there are two supermarkets nearby - the Maxi Dia just down from the hotel and the SuperCor which is just past the Sunset Beach and Best Benalmadena Hotels on the road to Torquebrada. Beside the SuperCor there is also excellent Italian, Mexican and Indian restaurants. Best place to eat though is Denis' place on the Santa Ana beach promenade.

Room Tip: Pool view and sea view rooms usually come at an extra cost but best to avoid rooms over the cocktail...
