“Great for a quiet holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

We visited this hotel a few years ago and enjoyed the shabby chic environment. We always had a lovely time, the hotel offered what we wanted - a quiet winter break, good food, good location and nice and clean with good customer service. We have had two previous visits but had not returned since the refurb.

We were pleased that, although now modern (and it is lovely) the hotel still offers everything we wanted. We have had three previous holidays this year, which were all a bit more livelier but this time we were looking for something quieter and we weren't disappointed.

To put this review in context we are not bothered either way about being entertained or lying in the sun. As far as the entertainment is concerned we have seen better but we have seen a lot worse. The resident duo are an amiable couple and pleasant to listen to and what's more they don't sing the same songs you hear all the time - they were eclectic in their singing and often sang songs you don't often hear. If you want to sit in a Brit bar with cheap plastic seats and a sports screen you will find plenty of them near the hotel, but we were just as happy sitting in the hotel buying drinks from the bar which were competitively priced being served by very pleasant staff.

The sun beds had the usual fans who reserved the best ones first thing in the morning but there were plenty for everyone. The hotel also has some very comfortable large, deep outdoor sofas and we preferred to use these.

The food was as good as we remembered with a good selection. If you aren't happy with the food you just aren't trying. The only criticism I have is the serving of coffee on a morning. The system just doesn't always work - you are escorted to your table, asked if you want tea or coffee then usually forgotten about!! There is a coffee machine so you might be better just helping yourself.

Our room was lovely with plenty of space and a jacuzzi. I could have used more hanging space for my longer clothes but this was a minor irritation.

This hotel does what it says on the tin. It is a Thomsons couples hotel. You won't get rowdy or bad behaviour. It's nice and quiet so if this not what you want you might be better choosing another hotel. If and when we return to Benalmadena, we'll come back here. We are still at he hotel and will leave in a couple of days. If there are any unexpected events in the next couple of days we will update the review.

Room Tip: The rooms are over eight floors. If you don't like using lifts ask for a lower floor. We were...

This hotel is not a Thomsom Gold but a couples hotel. I went on my own single male, Tend to keep myself to myself never the less a great holiday was had. Sea view with a single room fantastic view, The staff are only to pleased to help the guests. There is a lift to the beach but it should not put you off. Plenty of sun beds on three levels. Lovely food eat as much as you want. I was one the 4th floor.. Tea/coffee milk etc. was replaced daily. Plenty of shops local and also a very long flat promenade for a evening stroll. Massive 3/4 bed in a single room.

Room Tip: Floors 3rd floor to the 6th sea view on the road side there is a main road

Had a two weeks holiday here 15-29 September 2013. The hotel is in a great position, close to the marina, shops, bars and beach. We arrived very late but there was a snack meal and fruit set out very nicely in the restaurant. I was very pleased with the room we were given, 4th floor with a view of the pool, beach and marina. The room was very clean and bright and had a wall mounted TV, air con, tea/coffee sachets, kettle, milk and even a complimentary bottle of water. The bathroom was very 'senior citizen' friendly with a walk-in shower, two basins with lots of toiletries, shoeshine set and hair-comb. The wardrobe was very spacious and had drawers on one side, plus a safe. The bed was enormous and possibly the best bed I have slept in away from home. The pillows were wonderful. The reception staff were very welcoming, helpful and informative on arrival. The lady who cleaned our room was cheerful and she always did our room whilst we were at breakfast so you didn't feel you had to be out of the room all day. The only time she was later was on change-over days when the vacated rooms took priority. The restaurant staff were also very cheerful and professional - escorting you to a table. There was lots of variety at mealtimes (I especially enjoyed breakfast). It isn't very often you get really nice boiled potatoes in hotels but I must congratulate the Riviera as theirs were lovely (I also adore boiled potatoes)!!! The sweets and fresh fruit were in abundance - there was quite a queue for the apple crumble, although I loved the fresh fruit and ice cream mmmm! Didn't see much of the entertainment as we enjoyed a walk out in the evening. However did love the 'quiet/reading room' where we could access the wifi and communicate with home. There was also a bookcase with books and magazines. There were lots of sunbeds and umbrellas round the pool and also on the other levels of grass going down to the gate to the beach. We usually used the beds on the bottom level. The lift from the promenade to reception floor was very handy when you returned tired after walking around in the sun.

The lifts in the hotel were a bit like the buses in resort - you just had to wait patiently until one came along.

All in all this was a lovely holiday spent in a great hotel which was very quiet due to being an 'adult only' hotel. It appears that lots of thought and consideration has been put into making it very suitable accommodation for elderly, disabled and peace seeking holidaymakers.

Room Tip: Probably 4th floor and above with a view of beach and marina.

Ideally located hotel with excellent accommodation. It is well worth paying extra for a sea view. The food is great with a wide choice to suit everyone. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is not surprising that many people return time and again to this hotel.

Room Tip: Well worth having a sea view, superior room on a high floor.

Just returned from a fabulous week, really I shouldn't do a review as everyone will want to go there but that would be selfish not to tell you how good this hotel is, there is not a lot I can add because mostly it's been said by other reviewers, The hotel location is fantastic views by the pool out to sea just loved it, the weather was mid eighties so had a really lazy week by the pool, our room was spotless with a kettle mugs coffee tea and milk, you have a mini bar but that has to be paid for and you stock, with your milk, water, wine ect, I think it was 20€ for the week! but well worth it! Now the next important thing food honestly there is something for everyone, we are in Spain so bread and butter pudding is not quite the same but it's there as is a choice of soups, salads meats, cheeses, lots of hot choices rice curry chips mash boiled, beef stew, fish chicken pasta, you will not go hungry, breakfast cereals, porridge, yoghurts fruit full English, cheeses, meats toast, jams, juice tea coffee, you can get lunch at the pool bar very reasonable, we walked to the Marina you could get a coffee an seperate brandy foe €1.90 I could not believe it and it's very nice sat there people watching, we then carried on to Torremolinos had a good look around a few wines then got a taxi back €8.00, we wanted to go to Gibraltar and Marbella but loved the time at the hotel so that's on the to do list next time, Entertainment every night, resident duo, won't make the big time but easy listening, plus other acts, at least they bother, also options to do smoothie making, line dancing lessons ect, all free whilst your there also Thompson do about three trips free of charge I overheard people say they enjoyed them, also British TV channels so you can keep up with the soaps, all the staff are lovely, we used the spa €10 for two for an hour in the indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath liked that, and jacuzzi, I am so pleased to be going back in April lovely lovely holiday all round, Have a good time everyone, Thank you to all the staff at the riviera see you in April

Room Tip: Any where I go I would always say book a sea view, as I find it very relaxing listening to the sea.

Just returned from an excellent week at The Riviera with the added bonus of great weather for this time of year, with sun and blue sky and upto 29c/84f temps. This refurbished hotel caters for the more mature guest and this is reflected in the daytime activities and evening entertainment but there is normally something for everyone ( speaking as the reigning Boules champion !! ) Pool is on the small side but is not as cold as stated in previous reviews and with ample beds and no blaring, repetitive music or equally loud children it was peaceful and very relaxing. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful including the Thomson rep. Christina and activities co-ordinator Joanna. The restaurant offered a wide choice at breakfast ( including a glass of Cava if you fancy ) and dinner again to suit all tastes including a Tapas corner. The big plus for this hotel is the location with the elevation offering panoramic views and easy access to promenade/beach/and the Marina. All in all a great late season break and with the good weather due to continue I know where I would rather be right now !!
