“a lovely week in the sun”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

Stayed at the Riviera end March 2014 - transfer from airport quick and easy, room ready on check in, not much room to unload bags from coach, and no assistance to room with cases, but room beautiful, cleaned every day, very pleasant maid and staff were all very helpful, We thought the food was very good, a lot of the same choices nightly, but such a variety that you could have
something different every day, all good quality, and an excellent tapas bar for starters to the evening meal. We were on the side of the hotel, and once the balcony door was closed there was absolutely no road or outside noise. Look forward to staying again next year.

Room Tip: ask for a side room, you can still see the sea, but very quiet once balcony door closed.

Went last week March 2014.
Firstly Thomson. Got ripped off on the plane seat numbers yet again. Sat on a coach at Malaga air port in under ground car park for two hours, should be a 15 min transfer, longer than the flight, coach was waiting for other flights. Full coach to hotel.
Secondly hotel. The coach arrived at the hotel, all the bags were thrown off the coach, no space between coach and hotel whilst retrieving luggage people had their pockets picked, welcome to thieves paradise. Large queue at check in, waited for ever to be told room not ready and waited a further two hours. Miserable reception staff, all to much for them dealing with holiday makers. Paid 25 euro for safe, 40 euro deposit on two towels, fridge had to be rented also.
Food was bland and repetative. Show cooking - what show cooking. Wine only sold by the bottle not by the glass. House Rosey the best. Regular queues to get into dining area. Breakfast same every day, long waits for omlette or pancakes. Coffee machines never seemed to work. Quicker to get own hot water / coffee than wait for waiters. The bar cocktails very weak could not taste any alcohol in certain cocktails charged at full price. Pickpockets operating in the bar area. Lot of very elderly holiday makers here.
The hotel room was spotless and the hotel very clean. But room overlooked a very noisy main road.
In Benalmadena we heard of muggings outside our hotel and in the hotel lift, pickpockets everywhere terrible at the markets you feel your pockets being tugged at all the time, tramps begging on every street corner, please keep your witts about you. I did not feel safe here and would not let my wife go in the lifts on her own.
Well you get what you pay for £900.00 seven nights half board, a cheap March getaway.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms over looking the road. Pay for the view.

We stayed at the Riviera for 2 nights & it was lovely (only wished we had chosen this hotel in the first place & not stayed at the Bali for the first 3!!)
Hotel staff were friendly, room was very clean, with comfortable beds & proper pillows (believe me after 3 nights of hell this was like walking into heaven!!)
Location is great, we were lucky enough to have a corner room at the front with a wrap round balcony with fantastic views of the beach
Plenty of choice for breakfast, great pool & grounds with a lift from the hotel to the beach
Thank you Riviera for making the last 2 days of my holiday relaxing & enjoyable

My wife and I went to the hotel Riviera in Benalmadena from March 16th to 23rd this year following the recommendation of a cousin who spent two weeks there in November 2013 and three weeks there in Jan/Feb this year and that really says it all. Who would return to an hotel if it wasn't any good?
We were certainly not disappointed as the hotel is really excellent. When we arrived in the Thomson transfer bus nearly 40 people got off the bus at the same time but the hotel check in process was very quick and efficient and we were in our room in next to no time.
The room (209) on the second floor was extremely comfortable and well equipped with television, tea and coffee making facilities, comfortable twin beds and lounge chairs. There were excellent sea views from the balcony which was very pleasant in the afternoon sun.
The room was cleaned and towels changed daily by very pleasant and helpful cleaners.
The dining room was light and airy and spotlessly clean with staff who went the extra mile to ensure your experience was memorable. The selection of food at both breakfast and dinner was first class with more than enough selection to suit the most discerning guest. The staff in the dining room were among the most pleasant and helpful I have had in any hotel and they certainly deserve credit for that.
On our departure there were a large number of guests leaving the same day and I never heard one say they were disappointed with anything.
Would I recommend staying in Benalmadena - yes - pretty resort with many local attractions like the marina and park to visit and a short bus ride away is the enchanting village of Mijas which is definitely worth a visit.
Would I recommend staying at the hotel Riviera....DEFINITELY.... that's where I'll be going.

It was our 30th Wedding anniversary so we treated ourselves to a cruise and stay with Thompsons. The stay part of our trip was at the Riviera, Benalmadena. Great choice! From booking in to our last breakfast, it was a pleasure. The hotel has just had a revamp and it shows. Super-king size bed, bathroom to die for and smart grey/black decor. Always clean. The staff, from Danny and Caz (entertainment) to Manuelo (dining-room waiter) to our cheerful and efficient chambermaids, were a joy. As it was the end of March the entertainment was important as the weather was very mixed and Thompsons and the team did not disappoint. From 11 a.m. until midnight there was always something. Quizzes, demonstrations, games and special guest shows. The food was good, very tasty and plenty of choice. If I had any reservations about staying again it would be about the temperature of the food. It was ALWAYS luke-warm. It was a shame because everything tasted fantastic but even the soup was tepid. But to end on an up: Christina the Thompson's rep was adorable. Always enthusiastic and helpful, always smiling and always there!! A credit to both Thompson and the hotel. Yes we will certainly be going again. M & C from Cornwall

Room Tip: We were in 719 which gets the sun afternoon/evening. As it was March the traffic noise was not too b...

Took a week's break via Thompson at the Riviera. The hotel rep Christina is fabulous and extremely helpful - an English speaking Spanish national who Thompson should be proud of. The hotel staff were very helpful too and our room was excellent (710) - with sun all afternoon. Newly refurbished with great double shower and washbasins in bathroom and a super king-size bed and flat screen tv in room. Note: the tv is lacking in English channels so don't look for the BBC/ITV!

I agree with others the front of the hotel is on a noisy main road which is annoying when on the balcony, however with the door closed it was fine and the bed sleep quality was fine.

Restaurant service was very good and food was good and plentiful in the main general restaurant - buffet style but with Show-Cooking morning and evening and a Tapas bar in the evening. The a la Carte restaurant looks good but was let down by poor service on the one night we attended and has a fairly limited menu.

Location is good as the hotel is adjacent the promenade giving access one way to the marina (10mins) and the other virtually to Fuengirola. It is also central to most of the main attractions in Benalmadena. Do visit the marina which is amazing in structure and ambiance.

Buses are great - get a pass (2 euros from a tobacconist shop) and load it with funds - then it is 1Euro 8 Cents per journey whether you go 1 stop or all the way to Torremolinos or Fuengirola. Do fly the cable car - it is a great way to be with the eagles and Christina has half price tickets.

Overall we enjoyed our stay in this hotel and in Benalmadena - but I would suspect it is extremely busy in the main summer months.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a side sea view - have a top floor room at the sea end away from the road - pool fac...

Went with Thomson holidays . Rooms ok but bland. Petty charges of 3 euros p day for safe and fridge , surely in a 4star hotel this is part of the package. Also 10 euros for towel hire is another petty charge even if it is refundable.
The food was ok . I would say 3.5 stars rating.
