Food is generally very good and of a mixed variety with regards to locale etc only one thing is do avoid the Ghoulash as it is more like ghoulish - what meat they has used I don't know but it was terribly gristley. The rooms are practical and spacious and the curtains so good that with them closed you wouldn't know that you are on the doorstep of the Med! The staff are very polite in the hotel and restaurant but one in the bar section is clueless in the extreme, takes ages getting your change and frequently gets your order wrong! The bar area is like a labour club thrown back to the 80s with what is meant to be entertainment to match - you will spend more time going up cardiac Hill to the Bali to escape from this dated sub standard crap. The televisions are lovely flat screen LG ones - unfortunately with the management lieing about what English channels they can pick up - 2 news channels, 2 true movie channels and 5 music stations...don't expect to keep abreast with the soaps... or the World cup....yet strangely enough the TV in the bar could get English speaking world cup coverage...until the sixties entertainment came on and drowned it out ! Great hotel but they seriously need to restructure their entertainment programme and the TV channels.

Room Tip: Get sky go, a laptop and an hdmi cable, you're gonna need them!

My daughter & I have just returned from a week's stay at the Hotel Riviera. The hotel, staff & entertainment were excellent. So much so, that we found ourselves chilling round the pool every day & didn't bother booking a single trip. The room was bright, clean & spacious. Towels were changed every day & bed linen (although it stated 3 times a week) was changed every day except one. We took advantage of the poolside towels (€20 returnable deposit), which we changed daily & also the safe & fridge, which were €3 a day each but worth it in our eyes. Food excellent & plenty of choice for both breakfast & dinner. Poolside bar was also great. We had read previous reviews stating that the guests were mainly elderly & I was worried that my daughter, who is in her thirties, wouldn't enjoy herself. However, although there were a large number of retired people, my daughter was the first to say she would like to return next year. All the staff worked extremely hard, but special mention of entertainment staff Laura & Danny, who were fantastic. We'll definitely be back again.

Room Tip: Our room was on west side of hotel, so we had the late afternoon sun on our balcony.

We have just stayed at the Riviera Hotel in Benalmadena. This was are first stay at this hotel .
We had a superior room which had a good view of the sea and harbour. Was well worth the extra money. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent with more than you could eat. We will be visiting again

Room Tip: The superior rooms have a good sea view

Just returned from a 10 day break here, Would say the good reviews put here by others is pretty spot on, The entertainments team deserve a pat on the back, Danny and Laura, well done. Kept us pretty busy most of the days, and mingled in the evenings.Had a good time in all, but just one thing surprised us on getting there, Although an adults only, we were disappointed to find, with a few execptions, most of the guests were to put it bluntly nearer 70, which, had we known, would not have booked. Perhaps Thompsons should advise younger people of this, as the few that were there, looked somewhat out of place,And sadly ,the evening entertainment was not good.

Room Tip: ask for pool view, or you will be disapointed

Had a two week break and found the staff and rooms very good. Paid for a superior room had large balcony with sunbeds. This hotel is in a good location, and enjoyed the resort and surrounding area very much. Breakfasts good but evening main meal poor quality with frozen veg, grey fish with bones and salad did not seem fresh everyday. Some of the crockery and cutlery was not clean maybe a problem with the dishwasher but not good. Two nights before we returned home the 4th of June my Husband was really ill through the night sickness and the runs. The next day so many people were ill a Doctor was brought in free of charge who told us it was a virus brought in from England. No tests were taken so how he new that I don't know. The amount of people I talked to who had been up at two in the morning ill, leads me to think they should look at the Hygiene. Rep handled this well my husband and many more all getting to see the Dr and a prescription given. However due to main meal food quality and the illness we will not return to this hotel but would go back to the area. After 20 years in Thomson hotels this is the first time I have had anything bad to say. Lets hope this was a blip but still would not return,.

Thank you for your comments and we are sorry to hear that your husband suffered an illness while he was on holiday. We take the health and safety of our customers very seriously and we follow very strict hygiene procedures and polices which are regularly reviewed by outside local authorities. We can assure you that there is nothing at fault with the hygiene at the hotel, and it would appear that a few customers suffered from a spell of the Norovirus . This is an airborne virus which is very common in the uk and unfortunately caused this infection. The illness was in no way related to the food and beverages served in the hotel.
We are pleased to hear that overall you enjoyed the facilities of the hotel and thank you for your kind comment about our staff.

Booked this Hotel as we have recently been using the Thompson Couples brand and we must say we were somewhat dissapointed in comparison to those we have experienced on the Greek Islands. We would note that this is our first visit to the Costa del Sol for some time as previous experiences were not very good and we should have perhaps taken a little more care regarding the site of the Hotel this time.

This is not to say that we have an issue with the Hotel which we found to be fine and very friendly, the Hotel staff were very nice and attentive, the Hotel fairly simplistic with the Bedroom and Ensuite Bathroom lovely. However as we had partly booked this on other reviews which regarded the food as wonderful this was the second biggest dissapointment with a menu that featured very little Spanish cooking and which was very orientated to the British style of food which considering the Hotel was occupied by mainly British tourists I suppose is the reason why. A little more attention to the menu with a greater Spanish influence would have improved our rating of this Hotel a lot.

The Hotel had changed to a Couples Hotel we assume last year when it was refurbished we assume, this probably answers why so many Brits as this we assume is its previous heritage, this obviously is why the average age here was 60 to 70 year olds, our own age group, but it would be much better if it attracted a much greater cross section of ages like the Couples Hotels we have previously experienced. To note we assume that the time of year plays a big part in those age groups that are available to travel in late June, but we also note that the previous Couples Hotels we have stayed at were at the same sort of time of late spring or early autumn, and their age range was much more diverse.

We also assume that the age range at the Hotel dictated the type of Enertainment which we thought was boring and out of date and which we spent much time trying to avoid, this was our biggest disapointment.

We must say as a footnote the Thompson Rep at the Hotel, Christina, was a joy to be around and in her words a real Honey.

Room Tip: Not a lot to say as above ground they either face east for the morning sun or west with the evening...
