I was really looking forward to staying at the hotel after seeing the pictures on the web and in some ways it didn't disappoint. The staff are brilliant and v friendly. after one day of trudging around in the rain looking for an indoor pool - we walked into arroyo de la meil to go to the ice/rink/pool only to find out from the owner of an english bar that it had closed allegedly due to 'legionairre's disease' (maybe this was a sick joke - who knows??) lovely annamaria on the desk arranged for us to go to the Riu Belplaya to use their pool - small but perfectly formed.

also enjoyed the food and the sittings...it was nice to know you had a table sorted out although it was next to the soup table and a bit annoying early evening when the soup rush was on...yes, the breakfasts are more of a scum and you do have to be quick off the mark to get fresh eggs before your dining competitors but no one leaves hungry, honest. and when you look at the prices in the resort you can hardly blame people for having seconds...or thirds...or fourths...in some cases.

On the downside, the room are dismal...the best rooms overlook the pool but they get no light and i wonder - even in the summer - if this swimming pool area remains in the shade.

also...at the rsik of sounding offensive..it needs a darned good up-grade, revamp especially the rooms and i didn't like the internal fire escape metal stairs off the main corridors as they gave the hotel the look of a prison...i kept expecting someone to start knocking a metal cup against them to rouse us all in the morn.

and take loads of mossie spray...we did but we still got a lot of nibbles. they are terrible.

but i have to say the hotel really knows how to throw a new year's party...the gala dinner, complementary wine, cava etc was FABULOUS darling. had a fantastic night which almost made up for the slight disappointment of benalmadena and torremolinos as resorts - they are slightly jaded and down-at-heel but, because of exchange rate, sickeningly expensive.

Nothing to do with hotel or lovely staff we won't be going back Some of the hotel food was great but we like to eat out and its not possible now because of euro exchange rate without weeping into your calamare.

If this region is to survive the recession it needs makover FAST and the place to start is by taking that darned Burger King sign DOWN which ruins the peurto marina's view of the sea....it's not just as eye-sore...it's heartbreakingly sad.

My wife and I spent Christmas week at this excellent hotel, as we did in 2007, and found it just as good in every respect. Management 1st class. Reception excellent. Room serviced to top standards. Kitchen and restaurant staff very friendly, but not overly so, and service in the dining room faultless. Access for the disabled is adequate, but for the duration of our 1 week stay one of the two lifts in the main building was unserviceable, which caused one or two minor problems.
I would point out, however, that there is now no bus service to the port at all. This means that to get anywhere one has to either get a taxi or climb a fairly substantial hill to reach the main road and get a bus from there. This is a major drawback, and we would not return to this hotel for that reason, and that reason alone. I would also point out that the majority of the guests were from Germany, which made contact difficult, and the room TV service reflected this bias. We have no problem at all with this, but some guests may find it a little overbearing.
Shame about the bus service - we would love to return and make our trips up to the Pueblo etc. as before, but times are changing, and we must change with them. Adios Hotel Puerto Marina!

My wife and I spent Christmas week this year at the Puerto Marina having read the many very good reviews - but also having noted some of the caveats expressed previously
Our experience was doubtless affected by the weather which was awful - dull, cold, wet with just 2 afternoons having some sun
The hotel is as previously described - modern, smart and impeccably clean with a very friendly and helpful staff
There is a wide selection of food and it is of good quality
Sadly all is not perfection however and there are several factors which had a negative affect on our stay
The layout of the hotel is less than perfect - it consists of two legs which have rooms at either side. In the middle is the sunbed and pool area. The rooms on the outside of the legs overlook either the notoriously noisy front area with discos etc or the houses and other properties at the rear
The inside rooms appealed since they overlook the pool area but they also overlook each other with only a sideways view towards the sea over the Burger King sign
We chose one of these but it was on the "right wing" facing east and we never had any sun at all - BUT more importantly we did have a constant battle with MOSQUITOS which caused us some pain - although we did execute a number of the little *******s
The dinner arrangements are somewhat unique - 2 sittings at either 6pm or 8pm with a fixed table each evening
We found this arrangement very restrictive - with a mass of people queuing for the buffets at the witching hours of 6 and 8
If you did not have amicable neighbours at the next table it was necessary to ask if there was a different table available - which we had to do on one occasion when we had a particularly miserable couple at the next table which was just 8 inches from ours - yes the tables are very close together, particularly at tables for two
The food was good and extensive but eventually the blandness and repetitiveness began to tell, so I went to a restaurant on the marina for some prawns pil-pil to spice up the taste buds
In no way would I wish to criticise the efforts of all of the staff but in fairness I feel duty bound to point out what we felt were the drawbacks which would deter us from returning

This was our first trip to the Costa Del Sol. We researched many hotels and decided to pay a little extra to ensure we got decent accommodation. We eventually settled on this hotel and booked through Thomson - even though we booked flights and car hire seperately.

After landing at Malaga we collected our rental car and headed in the direction of Benalmadena - but quickly became lost. It was through lots of luck that we found the hotel. Benalmadena is a rabbit warren of roads that, in my opinion a poorly signposted. If this is your first trip to Benalmadena and you're driving - research you route thoroughly beforehand.

We had enquired directly with the hotel beforehand about car parking and they told us that they had a private car park which was not bookable in advance but would cost us 9 Euros per day. However, after eventually finding the hotel we found that there were public street parking very close to the hotel which was free when we stayed. There were Pay & Display machines but these were covered up. We arrived on Sunday and had no trouble parking at 8pm. As the week progressed it did seem to become busier and by Thursday (our last day) we had trouble parking at 6pm. I would imagine parking is horrendous in Summer.

We were offered a free glass of orange juice whilst checking in - which we thought was a nice touch. Our room was overlooking the pool and had a sea view.
When we checked-in at 8pm we were told that we needed to hurry for evening meal and this closed at 8.15pm. The evening meal has two sittings and we were told that we had to be there between 6pm & 6.30pm for the rest of the week. This was OK most nights as it starts to get dark in December at about 6.15pm so we would have been heading back to the hotel at that time anyway. It would have been good on some nights to maybe be a little bit later (6.45-7.00) but that was not possible.

You are allocated a table in the restaurant and you keep this table for the duration of your stay. However, on our second night we found another couple occupying the table we had been allocated. We approached the head waiter and got told off. Apparently we had not made it clear to him on our first night that we were late (8.15pm) and that we would need a table at 6pm for the rest of the week. We were allocated another table but how should we have known the procedures that they have in place - we had never stayed there before.

The food was good. Most of the hot food was cooked fresh every few minutes. Sometimes you would arrive at the counter wanting a certain dish - only to find the person in front of you had taken the lasst portion - so you either had to wait a few minutes for the chef to cook a fresh batch or choose something else.
I would liken the dinner service to a breakfast at either BHS or (the now defunct) Littlewoods. You queue up, see six eggs, count the number of people in front of you in the queue - four - great ! Then, just before you get there the person in front has three eggs and leaves none for you ! I can imagine this situation becoming even worse during the busy summer months.
Also, even though there was a great range of food we became a little bored of it by the end of the five nights.

The bedroom was immaculate and well decorated. It had a mini-bar and TV - only Sky News and CNN in English - but we love watching the Italian version of "Deal or No Deal" which is often aired on many European hotels we have stayed in. Our room was just outside the lifts on the first floor - but was very quiet.

The hotel advertises itself as being in Benalmadena but is on the border between Benalmadena and Torremolinos. If you walk along the prom toward Torremolinos you will see a sign after about 100 yards saying "Welcome to Torremolinos".

Stayed with my 20 year old daughter for 4 nights. Safety was the most important issue for me and I certainly did feel safe in this hotel. The front desk is manned 24 hours and the staff are all extremely professional. The manager greeted us on our arrival with a glass of naranja! The receptionist Annamarie couldn't do enough for us and managed to keep smiling even though I asked for a change of room, telephone connection, fresh towells (my fault- i didn't see them in the bathroom) all within 1/2 hour of checking in. She was also extremely helpful with directions, bus timetables etc etc.
The first room we stayed in overlooked the road to the front of the hotel I think is was 206 and although it probably would have been ok during December because the whole area was so quiet I think it would be unbearably noisy during the summer, Our 2nd room 379, the last room, top floor right side of the pool as you look towards the sea has a good view of the beach and promenade running towards Torremolinos. It also has a view of burger king!. It had 2 sets of patio doors before getting on to the balcony so think again it might get a bit noisy during the summer. we were woken a couple of times by loud creaking but think this was probably the wind. The sun does not reach the balcony at any point during the day. The room itself is very comfortable with a safe and tv with sky news and sports and cnn in english only. We took a laptop to watch dvds and were not able to connect to any local wireless networks. However the hotel has two internet booths located on the first floor which you can use via a payg slot machine. 12 mins for 1 euro or 30 mins for 2 euros. There are no tea or coffee making facilities and no room service however you can order breakfast in the room for a 3 euro charge and the continental breakfast (inc) and a couple of eggs at 50 cents each is so plentful it will keep you going for the whole day. The room and hotel are spotless in all areas with regards to cleanliness.
The restaurant is located on floor 0. It is spacious, tables not too close together and the food is very good. There is normally a chef in the evening cooking fresh meat and fish or chicken but you can also choose from pasta, pizza, chips etc if you like. The breakfast is very varied and you can choose from cakes, bread, cereal, cheeses, hams, cooked or even have the lot if you desire. They even have HP! ALL the staff are extremely friendly and accomodating. It appears they enjoy working in the hotel.
There are some entrances into the marina and shops directly opposite the hotel entrance across a road, small park, road which are no more than 50 yards away. There is a pub opposite (ish) called Murphy's Law which was quite full even though there were hardly any tourists and the owner was a lovely personable man who made you feel you were with your uncle. He had sky tv and put the x factor final on for us and sat and watched part of it with us inbetween popping to the back of the pub to watch the football with the boys! However it was not a rowdy pub with cheap drinks for binge drinking and again we felt more than safe there. If you do fancy watching a few soaps with cheap but good drinks and a yorkshire pub type atmosphere try the Cheshire Cat which is located half way down the road between the main bus stops to Malaga, Fuengirola etc and the hotel. It is run by a mother and son team. Mum seems to work during the day and is very friendly and Adam the son during the night- again seems to be a very nice young man. 3 glasses of wine and 3 pints of fosters came to 14 euros but the bar isn't posh if that is what you are looking for. Just up from the Cheshire Cat is the Arabian baths which we used. They charge 70 euros for 2 people to use the baths and include a 15 min massage. I have a lot of experience with spas etc and thought the price was quite reasonable however I would have preferred to only have paid 50 euros and certainly would have paid no more than 70. The staff are good, the baths are very clean, the massage was nice and there is a steam room, sml cold pool, warm pool and hot pool. there were about 10 people using the facilities and I don't think the spa would have coped with more.
While you are staying at the hotel make sure you go to Pinocchios (not in the Marina) for a tapas lunch at least once. -Delicious!
The hotel will order a taxi for you whenever which takes less than a minute to come. In fact if you stand on the hotel front door steps you can see the taxi rank.

Anyway we had no problems with mosquitos, noise or anything else other than the presence of quite a few Germans but they were mainly of the older variety and didn't put up much of a fight!

Booked direct on hotel website requesting pool view. When checking in we were given a choice of 2 rooms and chose one looking on to the terrace/pool.Lovely quiet room.
A nice hotel, very good friendly staff,a great location, food ok,salads and main course not great, soups and desserts excellent so one never left the dining room hungry.
But we wont be returning. If you are susceptible to mosquito bites avoid this hotel.Apparently the hotel is built on a site which was once home to the benalmadena moquito's and they now breed in a nearby stream and return to their former home with a vengence.
They were in the dining room, reception/ lounge, and in the bar/entertainment area they were like the Red Arrows flying to and fro.
One morning my wife awoke with 12 bites in one arm 5 inthe other.Add those to previous bites and it was now serious.
Suffice to say thanks to Jannus ,head receptionist, who sorted out the room with those plug in devices(3), and for his kindness and consideration thereafter. We then purchased antihistamine tablets, creams etc which allowed us to carry onwith our stay.
This is the first time we have ever had a mosq problem and once we avoided the foyer, bar and got out of the dining room as quickly as possible we were ok.
It is important to say,we visited other hotels, bars, cafe's for the remainder of our holiday without a problem.
We also spoke to others who had some bites ,one English girl especially was advised to see her Doctor after arriving home.
A nice hotel, shame about the MOQUITOES.

Stayed here for 11 nights with my wife.

Booked direct with the hotel website and made a request for a pool view room on the 2nd floor which was fulfilled.

Stayed half board which was breakfast & dinner (both buffet). Unfortunately there is no option to have lunch instead of dinner.

ALL hotel staff were very helpful & friendly.

The dining room was very nice and the food was OK. Plenty of it and good variety but not really of a restaurant standard. Only ate there 4 of the 11 nights, although in fairness, the Mrs wanted to eat there are another couple of nights.

Lovely pool & pool area with plenty of sun beds. Good drinks service around the pool.

Entertainment every evening. Singers most nights who were just OK but there was a magician one night and a sort of gymnastics show another, which were both great.

Hotel is located right behind the Marina in Benalmadena. The marina is very nice and has some lovely restaurants (I'd recommend Pacinos Italian & La Marina Chinese). The Marina is by far the best part of the resort. The rest of the resort is not great really. Hardly any bars with live music. Nearby Torremolinos is far better for nightlife.
