“Excellent Hotel & Resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2013

Spent a week at the Las Arenas at the end of July. Was our second time to the Las Arenas.

Hotel is still excellent. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. We were extremely disappointed with the Thomson rep as she was very unhelpful and not approachable at all. When we had any issues we went to the reception desk who quickly resoved our queries.

Rooms were cleaned daily to a very high standard. Towels always changed daily.

Food was excellent with a good choice available each day. Desserts still amazing!! Restuarant staff were fantastic. The two ladies were extremely friendly. The younger girl is such a great worker with a lovely warm personality.

The only slightly negative point is that the pool area needs a complete 'revamp'. The beach is directly accross the road from the hotel so we went there most days. The entertainment at night is quite dated and is not for the younger generation. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area.

We both will return to the Las Arenas and i certainly would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Park behind the hotel remains to be beautiful with a small relaxing bar area at the entrance. Would recommend the cable car trip and try and go a night when there is an astronomy talk. I would have no real interest in astronomy but i have to say i fould the talk very interesting. The Aqualand water park in Torremolinos is a great day out.

Thanks again to all the staff at the Las Arenas.

I stayed here in August 2013, with my husband and two children (aged 9 & 7). I wanted to leave a review, as I chose my holiday based on TA reviews.

The hotel is a comfortable 4*, ideally needs a little freshen up in areas, but travellers must bear in mind that it's the little things that tick the box to warrant the 4* and not 3*. Hair dryer, complimentary toiletries in bathroom, fridge and air con all add the extra touches for this hotel.

We found all staff very friendly, our spacious family room over looked the beach, the road was noisy but the balcony door was double glazed, so wasn't a problem. Just kept air con on at night.

There was water polo, shuffleboard and darts at certain times during the day/week for the children and adults. No matter the time we arrived at the pool we never had trouble getting a sunbed and this was August!

Evening entertainment was ok. Happy Hour was worth a visit!

Lots of variety at meal times, in addition to the hot food and salads they had different cheeses, fruits, meats, breads and desserts, don't see how they could offer any more.

Just 30 minute transfer from Malaga.

If we returned to this area we would definitely stay at Las Arenas again.

I have just returned from a 2 week stay with my partner and 2 children ages 16 and 12. It is a solid decent hotel which as other travellers have mentioned is pushed into the excellent category due to the friendly and helpful staff both in the dining room and bar. Some parts could do with an upgrade eg the pool area plus the rooms could be more modern but overall this is a lovely hotel. Benaldmadena was the right choice for us as I thought Furgengirola and Torremolinos were still of the "Bendidorm " era. There were loads of restaurants to choose for lunch- try El Copa - a lovely fish restaurant, just 5 mins from the hotel plus enough to do eg Gibraltar, Alhambra , Marbella on the excursions. You can get a bus to Mijas which is well worth the trip and only cost 6 euros for 4 of us. The beach is just across the road and the sun beds were the most comfiest I have experienced - they were 9 euros for 2 so we alternated days with the pool . Juan the entertainment organiser kept the kids occupied with table tennis and waterpolo matches (although no kids club). There was also entertainment in the evening but the only one we really enjoyed was the flamenco ballet. We tended to stay in the bar area outside served by the wonderful bat staff,.

Stayed her for a week with my friend and couldn't have been happier. Staff were nice, wait and bar staff were exceptional and worked so hard.
Rooms were clean and tidy. Hotel is right next to the beach and a few shops, it's a nice walk to the Marina as well!
The buffet was ok, same food most days but it was nice. We did eat out a couple of times though.
Pool is great and clean and it gets lots of sun.
If I were to stay in Benalmadena again I would stay here again

Stayed here for a week in June as a couple in our early 50's and really enjoyed it. The hotel bedroom was spotlessly clean with towels/sheets changed daily. Old fashioned safe with a key at a cost of 2 euros a day plus 5 euros deposit, good air con, fridge and TV with a few english channels. We were on the 3rd floor which was OK but I wouldn't have liked to be any lower.
Food was very good at breakfast and dinner. Lots of choice of hot and cold food. Maybe could have been labelled better. We never had to wait to be seated.
The pool area was small but passable. Sunbeds always available. Would benefit from a bar area serving cold drinks/ice creams etc. rather than having to trail into the hotel bar.
We never stayed in at night for the entertainment but on a couple of occasions came back and saw the last part of the shows which seemed to be going down well. As quite a lot of older people were staying at the hotel, the entertainment bar seemed very busy. The hotel bar prices were quite high compared to the nearby bars/cafes.
Benalmadena is a lovely area with lots to do and see. The marina is especially nice and has a really nice atmosphere. Its around a 25/30 minute stroll along the prom from the hotel, passing lots of bars and restaurants.
Take a trip to Mijas on the bus. It takes around 30 minutes and costs 1.60 euros. Mijas is like a hidden treasure. Definitely worth a visit.
If you go to Marbella/Peurto Banus, try and make your own way on the bus/train. We went on an organised trip booked at a local shop but spent more time on the coach. However, both resorts were really very nice.
All in all we had an excellent holiday at the Las Arenas and would definitely stay again. Not sure is if is a Thomson 4 star like the Riviera in Benalmadena were we stayed last year, but very good value for money.

Room Tip: High rooms overlooking the pool seem to be the best ones. Lower rooms lack privacy from pool users.

I have recently returned from my second stay at the Las Arenas Hotel. Overall this is an excellent hotel. The staff are friendly and efficient, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the location is perfect. However there are still a few niggles that in some cases really need attention:

The tiled floors are not non slip. If you have wet feet the bathroom and bedroom floors are lethally slippery. Anti slip tiles need to be fitted as a priority I would say.

The food is OK but does deteriorate in quality and choice as the week goes on. There is still an issue with labelling and it isn't always clear what you are eating. For example one night the fish dish was labelled "Salmon" and "Rosada" in my opinion it was Salmon but who knows? Onion rings and squid rings look remarkably similar too :-) Top marks for fresh pancakes at breakfast though, very very nice.

The tables in the dining room are too close together but if you get there early and can select your own table head for the back of the dining room. Tables there are set up for 3 - 4 people and are further apart.

As with most hotels the exchange rate at reception is rubbish so only use in an emergency.

The furnishings are starting to look a little tired, a refurb is long overdue.

The remote control air con is nice but instructions on how to use it would be helpful.

The safe should be provided free of charge, I am happy to pay a deposit for the key but if the hotel can't guarantee security the safe should be complimentary.

Having said all that I will be returning next year and have in fact already booked my two weeks. The luxury of free wifi in your room and all over the hotel is a real bonus.
