“Best hotel we have been to for a long time”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

The Las Arenas proved itself to be as good as all its reviews. Arrived on 27th June, room was ready and spotless. We requested extra pillows and they were there in 10 minutes. Had a bit of a smell of drains in the room so reported this to reception. A maintenance man arrived, sanitised all the drains in the room and problem solved. Food in the restaurant was excellent, always hot and plenty of it. Restaurant staff were always very attentive and the coffee at breakfast was to die for. We had requested a higher floor room with sun in the afternoon by e-mail before we left the UK. We were given exactly what we asked for. Hotel is very disabled friendly for those that needed it, ramps everywhere and plenty of lifts. Pool area, though not huge, was adequate and the pool was very refreshing. No problems with people reserving beds then disappearing for the day. The Thompsons rep was there every day but didn't make much of an effort to mix with guests nor promote trips. Not one of the best reps we have meet but didn't cause us an issue. We used the local "noddy train" most evenings. Great for getting to the marina which is well worth several visits. The round trip on the train is 4 euros return each and the ride is about an hour in length. Also, go in the cable car from Tivoli World. You get a great view all over the area from on top of the mountains. Would recommend this hotel for all age groups, could not fault any area of it. The management should be very proud of all their staff, they were excellent. Will definitely stay here again

Room Tip: High rooms, with the sun in the afternoon are best. We were in 418

Just got back from a 7 day stay at Las Arenas. I will probably upset the fans of this hotel but I can only say what I experienced. In front of the hotel is a dual carriageway with 2 lanes in each direction and this is a very busy road, 24 hours a day. None stop, 7 days a week. Allocated room 319, a side sea view overlooking the pool. Not bad, apart from the awful stench of raw sewage. Down to reception, saw Ava (a diamond) and explained the problem. Re-allocated room 127, side room with a view of the pool wall. Not nice, but the only one available. At least it did not stink. Next day re-allocated room 205 at the front of the hotel. Seemed OK but sleep was almost impossible because of relentless road noise. Bought some earplugs, but still could not shut out the noise. The hotel itself was clean and tidy and you could not fault the staff, they were all great. Restaurant a bit disappointing, food just about OK but I ate out on 3 occasions. The bar is good, but sitting outside was like having a drink on a lay-by on the A1. Walking along the front towards the marina got me away from the traffic noise and some of the bars were OK with reasonable prices. The 'Looky Looky' men (hundreds of them) were a pest.
Overall, if you want a peaceful relaxing holiday think very hard about staying at Las Arenas. If you do, make sure you have a high up side room.

Room Tip: High up side room

Dear Guest,

Reading your review made me realize how difficult it is to do our job in a touristic place like Costa del Sol.

Comments of our guests are never standardized. The person who stayed in room 319 before you wrote a beautiful review giving us full marks. Others, as you suggested, have a preference for the internal rooms which don't have a view but are very quiet.

It is evident that different solutions can be either appreciated or criticized by the client in accordance with his or her expectations. I would therefore like to express my management view starting from your comments of our establishment.

I feel that when booking a hotel it is important to communicate one's priorities, whether it be a room with a view, and internal room, a quiet room, a room on the higher floors etc. etc. The requirements of a guest can easily be satisfied during the booking phase of a hotel room. Under availability. Unfortunately, these days, any dialog is hampered by online booking systems and portals, thus there is no longer so much direct contact from the client and this limit our possibility of an interpersonal relationship which may allow us to better interpret your requirements. Once at the hotel it is not always possible to amend the situation if the room is not suitable to your requirements.

My suggestion, therefore, to you and to other future guests is to contact us directly and provide us with as much information as possible, allowing us to interpret your requirement and allowing you to find yourself in the room of your preference.

Kind regards,

Soraya Brown

We had a 6th floor room (no. 612), which got the sun in late afternoon, and had views from the side of the Hotel, overlooking the road and the beach.
The location is great, with the beach opposite and Fuengirola, Torremolinos and Malaga to the left, and Marbella and Puerto Banus to the right, with cheap buses to take you there. The Marina can be walked to along the lively promenade, and there's a street market in the Tivoli area, on a Thursday (or was it Friday?). The Arroyo has lots of bars and restaurants and is a short walk away too.
The cleaners were very thorough and the bed lined crisp and clean.
A clean bathroom with a powerful shower and constant hot water, with soft white towels, changed daily if needed. The hairdryer, although very hot, was a bit awkward to use as the button on the handle has to be pressed for it work, but manageable and you can borrow an iron if needed.
The food was hot and of good quality, with quite a bit of choice, but not much variety day to day (especially the desserts). The coffee was delicious, much nicer than the tea!
The restaurant manager, Marcel, who has been at the Las Arenas for many years, is a lovely, warm and polite gentleman, who takes you to a table and pulls the chair out for you - not many like him around these days!
The evening entertainment was not the best and it didn't help that the lights were not dimmed during the shows. This could be improved on.
The pool area, on the first floor, had plenty of loungers and the pool was clean (and cold) and very refreshing, with two showers at one side.
Overall, we would definitely recommend the Las Arenas Hotel to friends and family and probably return there again ourselves in the future.
Thank you to the lovely staff!

Just returned from 11 fantastic nights at this hotel 18th to 29th June. Stayed 2 years ago and was equally impressed then. Requested a room at the back of the hotel, on booking; received a room at the back of the hotel on arrival. Hotel is spotless, maids do a great job. All hotel staff are very friendly and helpful.

This is not a hotel for people who like things lively or have their day planned out for them. It is in a great location if your looking for a hotel on the edge of things yet within an easy walk of them.

I would say it is best suited to older couples but their were people with kids and a few 20somethings there when we stayed.

Beach is just across a road ( really not that busy as some have said ) we crossed it 4 or 6 times a day without using the near by crossing.

Great restaurant, lots of food, lots of choice, lots of desert:). Very nice staff in there too and never had to wait for a table more than seconds.

Beds and pillows in the hotel are both a little firm for my liking but I am sure there are others who would say they were just great, it certainly wouldn't put me off visiting again and, if I am on the costa del sol again, I will not think of staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: If you want sun in the late afternoon pic a room on the right ( West) or back of the hotel.

Went to benalmadena for a 2 week holiday with our friends and had a lovely time, from the moment you went through the door you were made very welcome. It was a easy check in and the room was adequate it had a double bed, fridge, a balcony with a table and 2 chairs and a view of the sea, the only thing missing is a kettle to make your tea/coffee in the morning. The breakfasts and evening meals are excellent theirs always something to have. There are plenty of things to see and do here which you can do on the local buses which cost 1.65 euros. The cable car ride is a must theirs wonderful views at the top were there is a bird show each day at 1pm and 5pm weather permitting. We will return.

Just got home after a weeks stay at the Las Arenas Hotel. Firstly i emailed the hotel to ask for a room on the west facing side of the hotel as the sun sets over that side, and those rooms get the full afternoon sun and thats what we got. So thank you for that. We were on the 6th floor so the outlook was lovely. The hotel is kept beautifully clean and the staff from the top to bottom work very hard. The hotel is right on the main road opposite the beach so a great location. We have no complaints with the weeks stay, and would definately return and recommend. One gripe which i feel i need to mention the beds are really hard. (Sorry).

Room Tip: West side facing. All even numbers i think.
