“Disappointing. After reading reviews expected more.”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Trawled through reviews and thought we were guaranteed a 4* experience overall unfortunately the poor food at every sitting and the waterpark being so cold it rendered it unusable meant we will not return. As a family of 5 children's ages 11 9 and 3 we used most facilities once. To begin with the room the beds were only changed on the day before we left and the sofa bed is not the most practical as its actually in 2 parts and meant it was a pain to constantly make up every evening as there was literally no room to leave it up throughout day. The 'high ropes' were not like any other at holiday villages and only ran 3 times throughout the week which as it consisted of jumping of a ledge was not exactly missed by the boys who expected a lot more. Initially i dismissed reviews of pools being freezing as a overreaction but as someone who used to swim in sea in Scotland even i could not bring myself to venture in the boys hired the floats for one day at €4 each plus €20 deposits went down slide once and did not use again as pool was so cold so do not take water park or highropes into account when booking as neither are very usable. The major concern is poor food after staying in holiday village Tenerife which is the best holiday we have ever had and a 3* hotel in Cyprus where the food was a pleasure to eat the lukewarm undercooked cheapest cuts of meat you could possibly find floating in coloured water which is signed as gravy and same cheap bland deserts every night were awful not once did we look forward to meal times and the Italian was just as bad Mexican better once my food was sent back to be reheated. The kids clubs were fantastic definitely the highlight of the holiday entertainment was likened to britains got talents worst bits. Overall this holiday village has just celebrated its 10 year anniversary and it definitely shows, a tired complex in need of overhaul especially on the catering side of things 4* hotel more like a 3* with the main elements ie meals falling way below standard.

Dear Guest,

We are sorry to hear that were elements of your holiday that you were not satisfied with.

We take on board your comments and will look into them and see if we can improve our services but there are certain things that are out of our control like the temperature of the pools.

Until the nights warm up, the pools cool down overnight and then warm up again the next day.

Many thanks for your feedback.

Arrived back yesterday after staying 1 week with 2 toddlers. We couldn't close bathroom door as handle was loose, nobody came to fix this. Screws were poking out of door frames around balcony doors. I ripped my dress as I didn't see them. The sheets were stained with blood and urine, got them changed but everyday more sheets with stains were on beds. Dogs across from room outside barked all night and morning. Pull our bed under sofa seemed clean. Cleaners didn't seem to do a very good job at cleaning as someone smeared sun cream/ cream on glass walkway in corridor outside my room and it was still there the day I left. Location of hotel is poor if you enjoy walking but fine for buses just very hard to cross busy road with 2 small toddlers. Food and service was very good in both restaurants but they served same stuff for lunch and dinner. All pools seemed good although beware as rocks in pool at end with mushroom in are very sharp it is also impossible for toddlers to get off ship across to shallow end again once wave machine is on. An ok holiday but wouldn't go again.

Room Tip: Room in block B facing mini golf/town/sea are very noisy throughout day and night

We stayed here for a week with our 3 year old daughter, coming home on 18th May. It was a lovely hotel with great facilities. We've been to Menorca holiday village (which we loved) and love the facilities available and entertainment for the children at holiday villages. The food at this hotel was nice with plenty of choice. Probably not as nice as Menorca but I thought Menorca was exceptional for a 4* buffet style restaurant. The themed nights weren't obvious at The Costa del Sol. The fresh omelettes for breakfast at the hotel were lovely and I personally liked having our lunch over at the beach club. The walk over the bridge didn't bother us. The main restaurant did get a bit busy so it was a nice treat to go to the Italian a la carte restaurant and be waited on!

The drinks and service were good. Apple and orange served from cartons were great for my daughter as she doesn't drink fizzy drinks. I also enjoyed them more than the usual sweet stuff that comes out of machines abroad.

Our room was lovely. Clean and spacious. Great to have a separate lounge area with decent tv channels for when our daughter went to bed.

There are loads of pools to chose from. The beach club/splash park were great but all pools were quite cold. Loads of spare sunbeds so never a problem getting one.

The kids club seemed well organised with great soft play for little ones to enjoy at 6.15 every evening with parents. Surprised they don't advertise this more in the brochure!

Loads of things to do in the area. We went to the safari zoo (excellent), dolphin park and cable car (with free bird of prey show up the mountain). Did a package for 30 euros for all three so excellent value for money! Ask the rep as they don't really push excursions or advertise this excellent offer. Get the train to the cable car as it's quite a walk from bus stop.

Overall, great holiday and hotel.

Just arrived back from a weeks stay here with my family that included 3 small children, the hotel was fantastic very well organised and maintained! The food was very good quality with plenty of choice but could get very busy! The pools were brilliant for all ages! The first choice team were fantastic with the children and they were well looked after! There was entertainment throughout the day and night which catered for all ages! There was a bus service that ran every 30 minutes from outside the hotel (but becareful when crossing the roads) which took you into benalmadena which had a variety of different shops bars and restaurants! The bus was only 1 euro 50 a person and took about 15 minutes! I would definitely go back and would definitely recommend! Xx

An outstanding hotel with fantastic staff. There was no more we could ask for. Entertainment was brilliant and really made our two year old come out of herself. I can definitely say I don't think I would go anywhere other than a holiday village from now on. We were spoilt for choice with the food at tea time and although there wasn't immense choice at the pool bar during the day it served its purpose and we had no problems with the choices laid out. The walk across the bridge to the elephant pool was very pleasant and our toddler found this a great adventure. The room was very spacious and having a bath in the bathroom really helped having the little one. I would recommend this hotel to anyone with a family and will definitely return. Thank you

I cannot begin to put into words just how fantastic this holiday was. As a family of 5 i find it extremely difficult to find a good value holiday thay does not scrimp on quality. From the moment of stepping into the hotel i just knew we had found ourselves a winner. The evening entertainment was just great, the children really enjoyed getting involved with the game shows and myself and my husband really enjoyed the evening shows, which in itself is amazing as he Jonathon really likes to critique everything in life. Richard, Paige, Emma, Charlie and Ben really work well together as a team and their presence on stage just goes to show how well the team really get on to provide a second to none experience for holiday goers, we just cannot rate them enough.
Aswell as the evening entertainment the daytime activities were just as good, as a mother i don't believe in sending my children to a kids club on holiday so we spent most of our time by the pool and Samuel, Oliver and Isabella really enjoyed their swimming lessons with Chris, again i think this really helped us to relax and enjoy our holiday.
We cannot wait go return and have already booked for another week in June.
Thank you holiday village for an amazing time, it really was fantastic.

Rooms- Spacious rooms with everything you could possibly need. Big living area with table and chairs, sofa bed, dressing table and a old tv with some english channels. Kitchen with all of the essentials. Bathroom with toilet, bath, double sink and separate shower cubicle. Bedroom with 2 small double beds, bedside tables, dressing table and plenty of wardrobe space. 2 sets of double patio doors, 1 in bedroom and 1 in living area leading to a lovely balcony with table and chairs. Cleaned daily with beds made, towels changed etc.

Pools- there are 2 pools at the hotel, 1 large with shallow ends and deeper in the middle and a small baby pool. Baby pool is great, really safe for the younger children. Pools are on the chilly side but kids all seemed fine once they were in. Lifeguards do not watch whats going on so don't rely on them to keep your children safe. I personally wouldn't anyway but you did see a lot of parents not watching children and a few children being close to drowning. Beach club pools are great also, think there are 8 in total. However they are absolutely freeeezing. Our daughter has just turned 4, she particularly liked the pirate pool and elephant pool. She was too small to use the wave pool so don't have much to say there. Lifeguards in here seemed much better.

Food- Breakfast and Tea were served in the main food restaurant in the hotel. Lunch was served over at the beach club restaurant. They were all buffet and there was always quite a lot of choice ranging from cold to hot foods and always plenty of desserts. I really struggled as I am a vegetarian who doesn't eat meat or fish. I ended up with omlette or croissants in a morning and didn't really eat at tea. At lunch we did go and eat at the beach club twice but again I struggled for food so we decided to stay and use the snack bar at the hotel. Snack bar was good served all your usual foods- pizza, chips, burger, hotdog, chicken nuggats, pasta, rice, salads etc. I lived off the pizza, chips and pasta lol. My partner and daughter always had plenty to choose from although food was very repetitive but they said the food wasn't nice. They found it tasteless or not very nice tasting. However this is quite understandable considering the quantity they are cooking for. There was also 1 free entry to the Italian and 1 to the Mexican. Italian is my favourite and I was really looking forwards to it but again tasteless food. Mexican was much better! There was no vegetarian option on the menu but they cooked me a vegetarian starter and main and it was tasty yaay! Dessert was beautiful.

Drinks- Drinks were good. Water, fizzy drinks, hot drinks, alcoholic drinks... alcohol was the cheap version unless you wanted to pay but it was fine. They were happy to make cocktails and were generous with the alcohol. Bottled water you do have to pay for but get 2 big bottles free upon arrival.

Snacks- as earlier mentioned the snack bar served all of your usual foods from 10-6 which was great. Ice cream was also available and come in vanilla, strawberry or chocolate. Other ice lollies and ice creams such as branded ones you had to pay for.

Activities- there was always plenty to do and going on. Around the pool side activities took place such as adult water polo, children's water walking (in big hamster like balls), pool party dances which our daughter loved!!, quizzes which were a good laugh but tricky haha. There was also kids clubs 10am-10pm. I wouldn't normally trust anyone to have my daughter but they're so safe! We let her go to 3 of the clubs in the week we were there. Most clubs last 1 hour and a half and the children love it. Most of the kids club reps are full of energy and quite clearly loving their jobs :) Night time entertainment was brilliant we thoroughly enjoyed it. The night starts with a couple of episodes of peppa pig followed by a widget show. The main section of the kids entertainment is the I 5 live consisting of dancing, games and competitions which our daughter absolutely loved. Paige was amazing we really liked her and Ben was great too. There was a game of bingo after the I 5 live just before the adults entertainment begins. We won €77 :) the adults entertainment started with a game show which was always a good laugh and was then followed by an act which ranged from the hv reps putting on a show and was also sometimes an outside act. We cannot fault any of the first choice team. They were so hard working and made the holiday for us! They deserve a big pat on the back. Well done.

All in all we really enjoyed our 1st family holiday to costa del sol holiday village. If the food was sorted I would even say its perfect. We will definitely return to a holiday village next year and this one will be a possibility for return in the near future :) DO NOT listen to bad reviews people clearly expect a 5* experience and need to look at places not specifically designed for families.
