“A brief but pleasant stay”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

Very helpful reception staff. Room was good size, double bed (2 singles joined together properly), with folding shutters to partition off the sleeping area from the living area (as the sofa was a sofa bed), with small but functional cooking facilities/dining area and large balcony. Air conditioning took some fiddling to get it to work. Hotel public areas looked nicely kept. Only problem for me was the room was on 2nd floor with an outlook onto a side road. Consequently it was quite noisy. Wifi/Room safe available for payment.

I booked this hotel based on reviews from TA and other sites for a large family reunion (19 people) - we aimed for off season as we are aware of Salou's reputation. All dealings with the reception prior to our visit were promptly and professionally responded to (thanks Jordi!). We were all placed alongside each other on a corridor on the 5th floor with lateral sea views. Initially I was extremely disappointed by the rooms which looked like they hadnt been touched since the 80s - I was expecting an apartment, but, as other reviewers say, there is a double bed behind sliding partition doors with very little space for moving. The kitchenette is basic, not very well equipped, but there seemed to be absolutely no problem with us bringing glasses up from the bar etc. The rest of the accommodation was very basic too, we moved the table and chairs out onto the large terrace (15m²?), this gave us ample space for moving about and enabled us to host pre-dinner drinks watching the sun set. The rule of thumb for this hotel seemed to be that nothing was a problem, each member of staff went out of their way to ensure we were happy with everything. Angel, the restaurant manager got to know all 19 of us within 24 hours and ensured we were sat together at night time, his presence in the dining room was always friendly and professional, he ran a very good, very friendly and efficient team. The food was way above what we've had on this type of holiday previously, we have endured some greasy half board catering in much nicer hotels further up the Costa Brava, it was not the case here. The restaurant had a themed night every night, there was great variety and the food was always fresh (sometimes you get the impression in these hotels that you've been eating the same food in a different guise for a number of days - this is not the case here.) The salad bar was well stocked as was the fruit and desert bar. Angel also accommodated our requests to shift an evening slot for lunch time slots, this enabled us to sample the delicious and excellently priced (12€) Menu del Dia in the Arena restaurant to the front of the hotel.
My mother had recently broken her ankle, we needed a wheelchair for her for a visit to Tarragona, the reception had one delivered within an hour of my request. The wheelchair broke while we were in Tarragona, I called the hotel and they had the company replace it with a new one upon our descent from the train in Salou.
Reception staff were friendly, efficient and helpful at all times, my son kept leaving his belongings at the poolside, they were always ready and waiting for him in reception the following morning.
Other than the somewhat jaded accommodation, the bar area lacked intimacy and comfort, no effort was made to keep you in it once the entertainment had finished. The night time entertainment was mediocre, perhaps it was the time of year? The day time ents was better with Christian organising table-tennis tournaments, archery and shooting!
I would recommend this hotel above others in Salou (despite it having smaller reception/dining areas than others I have visited) because of the staff and also, very importantly, because of its location - it is not in the town centre, it is near the nicer end of town, within walking distance of other shops and the train station and just across the road from a very safe beach.
If you are going to Tarragona, DONT take the bus, it was a nightmare and the drivers are extremely rude - I struggled alone with 2 prams, a wheelchair + a surly driver. The train takes 20 minutes and is the same price and much more comfortable.
Part of our group visited Port Aventura on a Monday thinking it would be empty, it was heaving!

This hotel is in a great location. Directly across from the beautiful beach and at the end of the main strip of shops & restaurants. Staff were lovely and room was cleaned every day. Stayed in a family apartment on a half board basis, this included breakfast and a choice of either lunch or dinner. (Men required to wear full lenght trousers at dinner). Food was lovely, great selection for adults and kids. Pool area was lovely with a great kids pool with slide and small play area next to it. Only downside is pools opening times are 10.00 to 18.00. Baby cot cost an extra €7 per day. Free wifi in reception and wifi in room costs €7 for a week. Coverage not great in apartments though. Kids club in the morning by the pool and entertainment every night in the bar. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would return.

We stayed here last week with our 3 children. On arrival 12pm we arrived at reception to a friendly member of staff who told us to wait while he got another member of staff to show us our room. We waited for 10 minutes to then go to a different building of the hotel "a walk outside and round the corner"! We thought the room was good but when we woke next day our balcony looked into a car park and other buildings that hadn't seen paint for years. Our view was terrible. We were on the corner and couldn't even sit out as it was like a wind tunnel. We didn't feel part of the hotel at all, more like neighbouring apartments and we walked round for dinning and pool use!! Overall food was general but not great for kids, breakfast was the same each day. The staff in dinning were lovely though. Entertainment was good when on but not brilliant for 13 year old, 9 year old and 8 year old! under 5's had mini disco where they danced on stage and kids club but was for young kids. We ended up going out the hotel at night walking etc to keep kids entertained. I probably wouldn't stay here with the children again but salou as a whole is great for kids. Portuventura was great where we spent 2 days. The pool was freezing so had 1 day at it. Maybe in the height of season the hotel would be better catered for kids but the kids entertainers were lovely just unfortunate my children didn't fancy disco and kids club with under 5's activities.

Booked this hotel for my wife as a valentines present as for many years we had walked past the blaumar and always wondered what it would be like to stay here.We were not disappointed we had a superior sea view on the 6th floor. The app was spotless lovely bathroom with a fine double bed room off the living area. The balcony gave us beautiful views off the sea, the marina and the mountains. We stayed BnB and the breakfast was great with lots of variety and the staff are also very helpful .The pool is lovely and all i can say is we will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room from the 4th floor up and one which is at the front of the hotel facing the mountains...

Stayed here early May with my Partner and our 2 year old daughter. On arrival (we were early) we changed our room from a pool view to a lateral sea view room. Being a superior room we were given one which faced outward rather than inwards.. This was great as our balcony now received the evening sunshine, we sat out in the early evening with a drink and watched the sun set. (Superior rooms also face the pool but do not get the evening sun) All rooms have a small kitchen and more importantly a fridge, so we kept drinks snacks and ice in it. No kettles for a cup of tea, but they do have a small hob and a pan for heating water. The hotels evening entertainment was great for all the family, it is organised by the children's club staff who were also great.. Not many English people staying here, but we did not have an issue with that. Key staff spoke good English. Food was ok, as you would expect from any buffet, hot and a varied themed selection. Pool was excellent but cold in May. Would I stay here again if in Salou, yes !
