“First impression”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

We just arrived 03.05 in the afternoon and will stay another 2,5 days so it's just our first impression but unfortunately it's not good at all. We are with a toddler 2,5 years old so to make our stay more comfortable decided to book club woody and friend to minimize waiting time and have more attention to our needs.

The first problem appeared as soon as we arrived we didn't anticipate that there is no comfortable way to get to the hotel if you arrived by train - there is no taxi/ shuttle/ whatever so only alternative was to walk with luggage and small child - not a pleasant beginning at all.

Finally getting to the reception after 15-20 minutes very tired we were standing in a line just to know that we had to go to guest service to check in there there as we booked club woody. (It would be helpful more comprehensive signs to mark where to go.)

Honestly at that moment I wanted key from the room not some special guest service. And there was no special service :) no refreshing towel, no welcome drink, nothing you can expect at a good hotel. Just a girl whose only advantage was that she speaks Russian (not really that important for us). After my remark that some way of transportation from the railway station wasn't considered by the hotel she made a grimace: you arrived by train??? Mmm. She gave us just a bit information limited mostly to what we asked and some important facts we got to know only from the experience and some other staff. (Eg that drink in minibar is included - first refill, that there a lot of limits at the park with child height even in recommended after question Sesam area and so on, limits on usage of priority pass in Sesam area, possibility to rent a stroller/car in the park, very incomplete information on restaurants and types of food available - and I don't know staff is just not informed or not interested in clients)

Wi-fi is quite slow as well and for a password we had to go to the reception.

It looks we finished with negative moments. As for positive - room impressed the child and improve the mood though tile floor I don't like with a small child. The Hotel territory is nice and pleasant.
Access to park close and easy, rides are impressive but please keep in mind that If child is under 1 m you have really poor choice (maybe about 8 attractions).

We'll add some new impressions after additional days we still have.

I've stayed at this hotel 3 times so far. 2008, 2010 and 2013 and would stay again next time!

The rooms are lovely and bright and have been updated not too long ago! The pools are amazing! They're huge so there's plenty of room for everyone and you don't feel cramped.

You get your own entry into the park, near the buffet restaurant so there's no need to queue. Your room key is your ticket too so there's less things to forget!

Restaurant is buffet style and has so many different kinds of meat, salad, pasta, breads.. It's great quality food! My boyfriend is so picky and he had no problem finding a meal for the week we were there.

You get your tickets to the PortAventura park included in your room price which is always a bonus! The park was extremely busy for the first few days of our trip so we bought the fast track wristbands which were amazing. If you're staying at this hotel BUY FAST TRACK AT RECEPTION! Not in the park! Very important! For the price you pay for 1 day in the park, you get your whole stay covered when buying them in reception!

All of the staff speak English very well and are lovely. We had no problems whatsoever and never have!

The food & drink in the shops is very expensive so a walk into Salou is worth it! It's only a 15/20 walk and you save a fortune!

If you want some nightlife you also NEED to go into Salou, by 11pm the hotel is pretty much dead once the children's entertainment stops! But we got up early to get into the park so it didn't bother us!

I'd recommend this hotel to everyone! We went as a couple and loved it! It's perfect for families. They do Woody Woodpecker themed rooms for kids and the characters are around the hotel all the time for photos!

Room Tip: Buy the fast track at reception, not in the park and you save a fortune! It's only a deal for gu...

We visited PortAventura to specifically ride the new Shambala roller coaster. Having stayed in Hotel Caribe the previous year and knowing the weather would be unsettled we decided to stay in this hotel as it has direct access to the park. We were surprised on checking in to see biscuits lying around outside the room (pre walked on) and although pleased with the size of the bathroom the room itself was very tiny. The walls were grubby and the bath was also chipped but we had clean towels and bed linen so couldn't complain.

On going back down to reception we asked if there was somewhere we could go to get some food and a drink - they said the "Bar" was just across the way. The "Bar" turned out to be a cafe serving just wine and beer. By that stage it was past 10pm so we decided to walk into Salou instead to get something to eat. This is what we did most nights as we found dinner in the hotel to be very expensive.

The hotel is not a patch on Hotel Caribe, also staying in one of the resort hotels used to mean that you had some free "fast passes" onto the most popular rides but this isn't the case anymore. I think we will be giving this hotel a miss next time and instead try the Gold River Hotel.

I stayed for 2 weeks at the Port Aventura hotel for a business reunion-meeting during February. Everything was worked out by the company so I couldn't choose hotel or room.

Location: it's situated next to the PortAventura theme park which seems very good from afar. Actually the park was closed for the season so we limited ourselves to the hotel premises. It's a 20 minute walk from the closest train station which takes you down the Barcelona-Valencia corridor. Also, only a 15 minute walk to the closest town of Salou (with a great beach).

Room: I was given a two medium bed room. First thing I noticed was the tile floor which is cleaner than carpet but much colder. I assume it's a great thing for summertime but not for February. The bathroom was fine, with a good shower. The cleanliness was perfect although, so I couldn't be more happier with the service. Only complain is there was a very funny smell through the corridors, specially in certain areas. Must be the cleaning product they use but I never saw an open window to ventilate either.
The beds were very uncomfortable. It had a single long pillow which was very annoying and the mattress caused me some back pains the first couple of days. The TV had many channels but none of the "paid" cable ones so I couldn't watch any football or movies. The WiFi internet was also terrible, it was very very slow and you could only get a decent signal if you were at a given place inside the room.

Restaurants: there are several restaurants inside the hotel area which serve very good food, either buffet style or a la carte. The Caffe di Roma served great coffee and pastries but also tasty pizza and focaccias. All the waiters were very friendly and nice so kudos to them.

Business facilities: convention center was perfect, plenty of space and great internet service. I actually stayed there late in the evening to stream some football matches due to the lack of WiFi in the rooms.

Overall a great hotel to host a business convention and large party of people. The service was excellent but the rooms not so much as expected of a 4 star hotel. Much to learn from US style hotels on infrastructure.

I just stayed for 4 nights, we were on a business meeting using the conference facilities. The conference facilities are excellent, although I found the buffet lunches very repetitive. I found the hotel room very uncomfortable, the bed and pillows were uncomfortable and there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Having said that, if you are there on holiday as a family it is a perfectly adequate hotel!

We had originally planned to travel to Egypt but changed at the last minute due to the civil unrest. So, Portaventura was a last minute selection.

We travelled the third week in September so it was still warm enough to sunbathe (just about). However, we didn't have time to sunbathe; the unlimited entry to the theme park and the water park meant that we were constantly on the go.

The quality of the facilities, the rides, the entertainment and the shows was second to none. I am hard to please and cannot think of anything negative to say about any aspect of this holiday, the hotel or anything about it.

The hotel was spotlessly clean and our room overlooked the large swimming pools and well kept gardens.

The restaurants were buffet style and having been on all inclusive/half board holidays before where the buffets have generally been very poor we were blown away by the quality and selection of food available. The standard was excellent and the consistency of service was superb.

Everyone in the hotel and the theme parks was very friendly and clearly enjoy what they do as I'm sur4e they don't get paid that well.

I would defy anyone to go to this hotel and not have a first class experience.

Room Tip: If travelling with young children opt for a family room - spacious and well set out. Also, second fl...
