“receptionists need to learn some manners”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Just home from second trip to Sol Costa Daurada. Hotel clean, functional,in a good area, close to town and Portaventura. Food adiquit if a bit samey and often cold, rooms kept very tidy, cleaners and waiting staff excellent couldn't do enough for you. Reception staff very rude and unhelpful and need to go back to charm school. Had same issues with the reception staff on my previous visit to this hotel three years ago even though none of the staff are the same they still are as rude and unhelpful as the others.Training of reception staff needs to be overhauled.Evening entertainment needs updating as is very repetitive and when the entertainers are providing the evening entertainment there is obviously not much money put into costumes, equipment etc. Not the entertainers fault the do their best. Over all it was a good hotel apart from the reception staff. And i dont think i will be staying here again.

Room Tip: pool view rooms are very noisy at night as the entertainment is quite loud

I don't every write reviews but just felt I had to with this one... We are an Irish family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children (age 6 and 1)... . We stayed for 10 days. I had emailed the Hotel the week before our arrival requesting a cot for our 1 year old, we arrived at the Hotel at 1.30am, checked in and when we got to our bedroom there was no cot unfortunately and the guy at reception could not help us... we got over that! but as the time went on we got a little more disappointed about things. Firstly I will say that the hotel is very very clean which is so important! The cleaners work very hard. The pools are lovely and also kept very well. Bedrooms are very small esp certainly not 'family rooms'! Food wasn't great, we went half board and by the end of our 10 day stay we were not eating in the Hotel at all, apart from a slice of toast at breakfast time!! Food was v. greasy and they had the same food on most days. Salads were lovely but there wasn't much for the kids to chose from, pasta and tomato sauce was what my 6 year old was eating most days!!! Also our bedroom was located with a view of the pool which was lovely during the day but extremly noisy at night, the entertainment went on very late and certainly didn't need to be so loud where there are small children staying!! Most of the staff were UNfriendly (esp at Reception!) to say the least, the ladies in the dining room were fine and the two guys who work at the snack bar at the pool were lovely - very nice to the kids. Also, the little pub at the back of the Hotel was lovely and Tony was especially nice and very very helpful. Overall it was fine but not of 4 star quality in my opinion.

Room Tip: If you have small children it might be better to stay clear of the poolside rooms as its extremely n...

Stayed here this past week (3rd - 10th July) so just got back this morning and after reading mostly good reviews there were some bad which I don't understand at all! I went with my boyfriend on a first holiday together. There were a few football teams staying for the first few days of our holiday, granted they were annoying but they can't be helped.

Arrived in the morning and the staff were friendly and helpful when explaining we couldn't check in until afternoon. We went for a walk around the area, discovering it's only a short walk to the beach and pubs. The room was spotless and cleaned every morning. As for the food, we found that everything was tasty and some of it was the best food we had eaten!! As the World Cup is on my boyfriend found it very helpful that they showed the matches in the bar on a big screen.. Although with such a short walk to the pubs, we did have a wander and watch one game in one of those, with many of the pubs having wifi. The back gate is very useful as it's quicker to use that when going to the beach. We went to portaventura for 3 of the 7 days and you don't need to use the shuttle bus as it's about a 5 minute walk away! Also, we used one day to visit Barcelona and if recommend "bus plana" who have shops nearing the beach, as they help different trips such as the camp Nou and city centre trip that we did.

Overall a perfect holiday and would recommend this hotel to anyone!!!

While we were here there were several young football teams staying as well. Although they were quite well behaved they made a lot of noise and congregated in large groups around the hotel, not really what you expect at a 4* hotel. Rooms were basic but functional and clean, beds comfy, walls paper thin. Food just ok, very samey but you could find something to eat. Had salmon one night but full of bones...put me of straight away. Also kids running wild in restaurant, almost got knocked over a few times. Nice 10 minute walk into town and beach. If you want a sunbed or parasol on the beach it is 5 euro each for the day. Nice beach but very crowded. Finally the best bit only a 10 min walk or free shuttle bus from hotel (not working for 2 days without explanation when we were there) to Portaventura which is amazing. Well worth a visit, lots to do for young children as well as older ones. The Shambhala roller coaster is amazing! If we return to Salou we wouldn't stay here again.

Room Tip: If you prefer peace and quiet get a room without pool view, you get a good view of portaventura and...

Stayed at this hotel last week. Hotel is very very clean, the cleaners work tirelessly around the hotel and the pool but, that is one of the good points. Another good thing was the security and the staff..very helpful. Would rate this as a three star, the pool area is tired, looks a bit scruffy. At the pool bar you have coffee in a small flask top type cup and ash trays are a plastic cups half filled with water. Not 4* at all. Lots of sunbeds but not in very good condition. The entertainment was awful, bordering on embarrassing. The food was just ok, very samey every night, got fed up with eating what seemed to be the same thing on most nights. Location is not good. Nothing in the immediate area and it is a good walk down to the town and the beach, with nothing to stop and browse at on the way except for graffiti, bad pavements and weeds! If you use the back gate when you come back later in the evening, the area is very isolated and dark. The rooms...the walls are paper thin, you can hear everything to conversations to people being sick! The beds move when you turn over and the air con is really noisy. If I hear the sentence ''it's not possible'' in Spanish again, I'll scream! That's all they ever said if you asked anything! Anyway, all in all, had good time because holidays are what you make them. Definitely wouldn't return to this hotel though.

Hotel very clean. Used back gate to go down to beach, this cuts out good bit of journey.
Our room was at roadside and must admit we liked this, as lots of noise at poolside. Free bus
comes in handy. Port Aventura railway station short walk, we went to Barcalona so that was good. Food at hotel not brilliant, bit samey every day, and a bit cold. Breakfast was best.
Very mean with toilet rolls had to ask for some twice. Overall not a bad hotel.

Room Tip: Roadside rooms quieter

I went for my 21st birthday with my boyfriend. We paid for half board, so got our breakfast and I cannot fault it, I would say bring a bag to bring fresh fruit to last yous the rest of the day.Overall the hotel was amazing, really clean, bar staff were lovely and always attentive to our needs. The thing that let the hotel down was the maids did not repllace toilet roll, so we had to purchase our own, they barged in when we were alseep and polished the balcony so we had a few slips which is dangerous! The staff at reception espeically the blonde girl (anitta i think her name is), avoid her if you have a question she is the rudest person and was quite nasty at times. As i say you get what you pay for, its a lovely stay over looking those problems. And is extremely close to everthing (portaventura, city centre, beach). It is a very enjoyable stay in Salou with loads to do.
