“Repetitive food, Miserable Staff but Nice Shower!”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

Stayed here mid July, I dont usually write reviews but i thought I would give my honest opinion. We were only given newly refurbished rooms as we requested this weeks before we arrived otherwise we would have got the horrible rooms like others did. Majority of staff could not speak english and their attitude spoke 'im only here to get paid not to help'. One of the staff in the bar couldnt understand english when i was asking for a pizza box so he just got someone else and they shouted at me "What is it you want?" - very rude if you ask me!

I must say one of the staff in the dining area was lovely and reserved us the same table every dinner time. Out of 10 in an honest opinion i would recommend here if you want something cheap and local. We ended up eating out or ordering food from bar because breafast and dinner was that appauling. Also we were refunded 25 euro for the fridge we rented from hotel as it was BROKE, their response was - "it only keeps drinks at room temperature!". Located on a hill next to beach but its a long walk so can be tiring! Would only come back again if i was that broke i couldnt afford better. Also, they play LOUD music and theatre shows until midnite - 1am in the morning so if dont expect to get any sleep if your a light sleeper, I complained to rep and he sorted this out! Thomas Cook Rep - Paul was lovely!

Food: 3/10
Room: 6/10
Pool: 7/10
Location: 7/10
Staff: 2/10
Rep: 9/10

Enjoy your stay!

Booked 2 rooms via hotels4u, wife arrived and rooms were dirty, old and dates, fair enough they moved us to much better renovated rooms on the ground floor next morning as I arrived.

Hotel is looking a bit old and dated, a lick of paint and brighter colours would help a lot, bathroom in first room was awful, however in the new rooms we were given they were lovely and modern with a big walk in shower (we had rooms 32 and 33). Air con was fab as well in the room.

Main Pool area is quite small, there is another pool at the side of the hotel, decent though and no rush for beds, you could hire pads for the beds for 1 euro 30 cents (not bad and made the beds much more comfortable), lots of natural shade (tree's) and not much sun before 10.30am due to elevation of hotel (in fairness though it was in the high 90's so a welcome relief)

Food was ok, bit bland, breakfasts better than the evening, still found something to eat every night.

Good animation team, lots going on in the day and the standard type of entertainment each night so no need to venture far if you don't want to, I personally found that the beer was cheap at the hotel (@2 euro).

The hotels is very popular with Russians and Ukrainians, I'd say at least 70 - 80% of the hotel guests and it's a pretty big hotel. In general Salou also appears to be a hot spot for Russian and Ukrainians which was very surprising.

Location is 15 mins from resort centre, if you avoid the main avenues and cut down the side streets it's a bit quicker, the hotel is at the top of a steep hill, ok for me and the fambo though.

Bad points

Felt the hotel standards have slipped, for me cleanliness was an issue, the rooms were fine and the maids did a great job, but the pool area wasn't properly cleaned, i.e. bleached, scrubbed and hosed down each morning, one morning had to complain that there was excrement on the floor (I think / hope it was cat) at the pool, it was quickly cleaned but again not bleached. The dining room whilst clean the table servers weren't quick to clear tables left with mountains of food on plates.

The sunbeds were not great, they were then ones that a fixed to one position.

Some of the rooms are of a poor standard, the renovated rooms have new floors and bathrooms, room 32 and 33 are 2of those.

Internal décor is dull, dark colours etc, which make it look old.

Some of the guests who believe it ok to walk to the front of the queue at meal times and get taken to a table.

I wouldn't return purely because of the guest demographics (nothing wrong with Russians / Ukrainians at all just a completely different culture and mentality), the location and my opinion on the hotel cleanliness, if you are going my tip is change rooms if your unhappy, apart from that you'll find it alright.

Cracking little beach near to the Hotel called Playa Llargo, and a larger beach Cappellans both no more than 5 minutes walk 5 euro a sunbed and 6 for a brolly.

Christies is a cracking Irish Bar with live music form@ 10.30pmevery night.

Port Aventura was great if a bit expensive (didn't realise needed 4 chupa chubs bags for 2 free entries) so cost 135 euro for 4 of us (1 free), to be fair though the rides are fab and the queues weren't too bad.(1 hour the longest)

Room Tip: pick low floor as I think these rooms have been updated

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We truly value your opinion and we apologize that we did not meet your expectation.

We regret that the opinion of the hotel you had in 2010 has changed in some aspects where no changes have been made. In the case of the rooms, in 2010 the rooms were equipped exactly like now, except the rooms renovated last year and regarding to the pool we have not made any rehabilitation, the location, surface and shadows during some hours of the day are the same than 3 years ago and the cleaning is done daily following the pool cleaning procedure.

Finally, in our hotel guests of all nationalities are welcome and we try always to promote a good atmosphere between them without taking their place of birth into account.

Although your experience has not been fully pleasant, we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again at the hotel.

Just returned from a 1 week stay at the Playa Park hotel, we had an excellent holiday and fantastic stay. The rooms are not massive but are fit for purpose, bathrooms are great with large walk in power shower. The girls on reception are not the friendliest but seem to do their job well a smile now & then would be good. The maids are extremely pleasant & helpful and they keep this hotel spotlessly clean. The waiters at the bar also work very hard and are very pleasant.

The entertainment is ok and the entertainment staff work really hard beware the music should go of at 11.30pm but most nighst was on till after midnight. The food at the hotel is really good with plenty of choice and replenished constantly, down side were the very rude Russians. If you get a drink with dinner remember and pay on way out.

The swimming pools at this hotel are really small. Unfortunately, the one thing that lets this hotel down are the pool areas, they are in the shade for most of the day and the sun beds are very uncomfortable you can get mats for them but it will cost you. We went the short walk to the small beach every day where you can hire sun beds for the day for 5 Euros. A lot a people have said about the incline back to the hotel this is not that bad in comparison to the vast amount of steps from the beach back to the hotel.

The rooms in the hotel had air conditioning which was very welcome. There is no fridge in the rooms but you can hire one for 25 Euros for the week definitely worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view.

I stayed at this hotel for 1 week 7/7/13 the hotel itself is clean and the rooms are OK could do with updating. The maids are in every day and did a fantastic job receptionists were polite enough and the bar staff really friendly and good with the kids. The pool is not the biggest and the pool area for sunbeds is small, we never had an issue getting a sunbed. The kids entertainment was poor for british kids and the nightly entertainment was bad. The food was OK however my son found it diffcult to get something to eat as he is only 5 and there was no kids section of the buffet which was strange. We ate out 3 nights out of 7 and had breakfast somewhere else in the end too. The majority of the people staying in this hotel were Russian so be warned as they didnt make any kind of effort to mingle.

I recently stayed in the Playa Park hotel as a party of 10. When we arrived the receptionists seemed uninterested in making us feel welcome and spoke little English. However we were given out room keys but 2 members of our party were separated from us and put on a different floor. When we asked the reception staff if the members of our party could be moved closer to us, they payed little attention and informed us that it was "not their problem". I was disgusted by the attitude of the daytime reception staff.
However, the chambermaids, bard staff and night reception staff were lovely, welcoming and helpful.
My room was clean, a fair size and the bathroom was great with a large shower, sink and WC.
The only problem I had with the room was the beds as we were given 2 singles instead of a double, however this did not cause a problem.
Our room was situated above the bins so in the mornings it could be quite loud but it did not bother us.
We paid half-board and the breakfast was okay with a good variety. However the evening meal seems more catered towards Russian guests. Because of this we decided to eat out most evenings during our stay.
Overall my experience at the Playa Park was okay but I would not be returning again due to rude reception staff, mediocre food and quite a dull atmosphere through the hotel.

Just returned from Playa Park on 7th July 2013 after a lovely 8 days .The hotel is in a perfect location just up a slight incline from the main strip.
The hotel is immaculate and spotlessly clean throughout .The staff are lovely , friendly and helpful and the waiters deserve every penny they earn.
The rooms are quite basic but again spotless and cleaned and fresh towels daily.
The food was plentiful and lots to choose from and believe me i am a fussy eater .
The weather was perfect , blue skies and hot for the whole 8 days !
I would recommend this hotel for anyone who has kids as the animation team were fantastic .
Already looking to book for next year as this was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed . Well done Playa Park and all its lovely staff .

Room Tip: room 332 had a great pool and sea view .
